Waiting for a Hero

Part Deux

Chris looked over as the waiter came by for orders.

"Oh, we changed booths," he teased looking at Chris and Emmy. Addison sipped her chocolate milk and sat on her hands.

"Yeah, hope that isn’t a big deal or anything," Chris apologized and the waiter shook his head and laughed.

"No, not a big deal at all just means more food," he teased and Chris looked across the table, stealing a glance at Emmy as she scanned the menu.

"Addi you know what you want?" she asked the girl and Addison nodded her head and then looked at the young waiter.

"The double chocolate chip pancakes please, with bacon," she said and Chris whistled low.

"That’s a lot of chocolate," he commented and Addison grinned, showing pretty white teeth.

"Tuesdays are the only days I get to have them, mom brings me here every Tuesday morning before her run for breakfast," Addison explained and Chris nodded his head as the waiter wrote the order down and looked at the brunette woman at the table. She lifted those doe eyes to Chris and then the waiter as she smiled sweetly.

"The blueberry crepes, please and some chocolate milk," she said with a nod. The waiter repeated her order as he wrote it down and then turned to Chris. Chris rummaged over the menu a moment longer before ordering the country fried steak with home fries and bacon. He had a coffee with him and ordered a milk as well. The waiter nodded and wrote the order down before collecting the menus and bowing his head,

"I’ll be back with your orders in a minute," he promised as he left. Emmy sipped her water as Chris folded his hands on the table and looked at her, a charming smile on his lips.

"Addison here tells me you’re a fan," he teased lightly and she laughed softly with a shrug, carelessly replying,

"I like pretty things."

"Oh so I’m pretty?"

"Very," she concluded and Chris chuckled, blushing a bit at the compliment. He tilted his head and shrugged a shoulder,

"Favorite one?" he asked curiously and nonchalant. He was expecting What’s Your Number or maybe even London, a movie where he spent a lot of time shirtless, but she didn’t even hesitate to say,

"The Losers." He arched a brow and sat back pleasantly surprised.

"Mom thinks Jensen is just soooooo cute," Addison chimed in rolling her eyes and Emmy threw her straw paper at her, smiling brightly as she said,

"He makes me laugh. He’s such a dork."

"Well then you’ll absolutely love me," Chris teased as he scratched his cheek and smiled. Addison looked at Chris and then Emmy as the woman smiled coyly and raised her brows.

"Oh I will, will I?" she questioned and Chris nodded, leaning on the table a bit accenting his large arms as he said,

"I’m a huge dork." He was trying to watch his language around Addison which was easier than he thought. He had to watch it in interviews and in the press so not cursing came just as naturally as cursing. She tilted her head and gave a careless shrug, pulling the corners of her mouth down dramatically, before saying,

"Guess we’ll never know." Chris thought about it a moment and turned his head to look at Addison who was quietly watching the milk in her cup bubble. She looked at Chris and smiled a tiny bit but he could see she was a little disappointed she already agreed this was one and done type of deal. Chris looked at Emmy and asked bluntly,

"Where do you live?"

"Excuse me?" she asked lifting a brow and Chris blushed and shook his head.

"I just- I didn’t mean it like- I was going to- ah! See? Dork," he laughed and Emmy smiled as she fiddled with the cloth napkin in her lap. "I was thinking of having a cookout, at my apartment. I have a pretty nice balcony no one ever uses with a little grill- I was thinking, um, if you wanted, you and Addison could, yknow, come over. For a burger and beer," he said slowly blushing more furiously with every word as he rubbed the back of his neck and shifted on his seat. Emmy smiled sweetly at his nervous nature and looked at Addison who was smiling brightly and nodding her head hopefully.

"Please mom? Please?" she begged and Chris mirrored her expression and gave Emmy his best puppy dog look as he echoed,

"Yeah mom, please? Pretty please?" Emmy breathed a laugh and shook her head lightly before letting it flow into a nod.

"One weekend we’re all off, I guess wouldn’t hurt," she agreed and Chris held up a hand to Addison for a high five. They high-fived and Addison breathed an excited,

"Yes." The waiter came back with the food and passed out the plates.

"Let me know if you need anything else," the waiter said and the adults thanked him as Addison began cutting up her pancakes.

"So, Emmy, what do you do?" Chris asked hoping he wasn’t prying as he ate some of his bacon and smiled at the delicious and most needed taste of crisp bacon and coffee.
