When the Day Met the Night

All Was Golden in the Sky

One week later, and Alex was getting ready to go on his first date with Jack. He had thought that when they'd finally meet up, they'd just be hanging out. He'd deemed it too soon to be considered a date. Jack had proven him wrong, by calling him a couple days after they had met and asking him out on a date. Alex wasn't sure why he was surprised though, due to Jack's... blunt nature. That was why he had liked Jack, actually. The boy wasn't obvious in a rude way, it was more like the exact opposite. If he thought you looked good, he'd tell you. If he thought you were good at something, he'd tell you. Although Alex was completely refreshed by Jack's comments, he knew that the other boy needed someone too, and he was prepared to be that someone.

Alex didn't know why he was trying so hard. He was in one of those moods where nothing you wear feels right, and you just stupid from every angle, and you cry at the thought of leaving the house. Jack had texted him a couple minutes ago that he was here, and Alex had replied with something about 'having difficulties.' Realizing that keeping it simple was probably the best way to go, Alex threw on the t-shirt he wore yesterday, his favorite pair of jeans, and his oldest pair of combat boots, which he thought were kind of nice. After figuring that stalling any longer would leave a bad impression, Alex decided that it was time to leave, and made his way out of his front door and towards Jack's car.

"You look nice," Jack smiled, eyes glinting as he looked at Alex. He really loved to look at him. The smaller boy blushed, and then cursed himself inside his head for being so sensitive. He was like putty in Jack's hands, and he wanted to put up a stronger frontier. He wasn't sure yet if it was just Jack's personality, or if he was purposely trying to make him squirm and blush. That's why he agreed to go on a date with Jack, to figure him out, but also because he really really liked what he already knew about him.

"Thanks, you too," Alex replied, surprised with how well he handled that. He's got it.

"Thank you, sunshine," Jack spoke, patting Alex's leg as he pulled away from the curb, making Alex blush once again. Okay, so maybe he hasn't got it.

"So, where are we going?" Alex asked, realizing that Jack had not told him anything about their date, yet.

"Wherever you want," Jack answered, "The mall, the park, the other mall, the beach, play land-"

"Play land!" Alex squealed, unable to contain his excitement, because, well, amusement parks were quit amusing.

Jack laughed, shaking his head at the other boy.

"Alright, play land it is."

After getting their tickets and entering through the gates, the boys were set off to the side to decide where to go first. Alex was enjoying the sunlight, and thanked the heavens for the weather this past week. There was one small cloud on the edge of the sky though, but they didn't have to worry about that. There were more important things to worry about, Alex thought, like the really cute boy to his left that was trying to get his attention. Wait-

"What?" Alex jumped, oblivious at first to the taller boy waving his hand in front of his face. Boy, he'd been so out of it lately.

"I said," Jack laughed, (Wow, Jack laughed at a lot of the things he said... Was that something to be worried about?) "How about you pick a ride to go on, and then we'll see what's next from there, and then get some lunch after whatever's next ends up being?"

"Yeah, that sounds perfect," Alex grinned, making the initiative to take Jack's hand in his as they began walking. He couldn't help but to notice the smile on the other boy's face.

As they walked, Alex couldn't help but think of all the other times he'd previously been in the same area he was in. The park was like a museum for him, it held so many memories. He'd had good times there as a kid with his family, and fun times growing up there with his friends. He pondered the meaning of the place to other people. To tourists, it was just another place, but to him, it was like a scrap book, every ride and attraction being their own page. He wondered what other memories had been made there by other people, and what other memories he'd make there in the future.

The two boys had spent practically all day going on rides non-stop, and neither of them couldn't have been more happier. Sure, amusement parks were a risky date, because you don't want to look scared in front of the other person, but you also don't want to force yourself onto a ride that you don't enjoy. Jack and Alex had become very comfortable with each other though, so the entire day had been beyond perfect so far.

While waiting in line for their last ride of the day, Alex felt a drop of water hit his cheek. Another fell onto his arm, another splashed into his golden hair, another somewhere else, and another, and another and another. He looked up, only to find that the small cloud from earlier was now a big cloud, angry and stretched out across the sky above them. As Alex moved closer to the ride, he could no longer feel the rain on his skin, due to the cover above them. Soon it was time to board the ride, and off they went.

Alex walked off and away from the ride carefully, being sure not to slip. Jack, on the other hand, ran off, and began to dance under the rain as soon as he was free from the attraction. Alex laughed as he watching, intrigued by how someone could be so at peace and in tune with something with such a negative association. It was then that he realized that things could still be golden, even if they didn't look it. Jack confirmed this thought by walking over to Alex and grabbing his hand, and he pressed his lips to the shorter boy's cheek. The two were complete opposites, and they were content about not knowing everything about how the other works and operates, but one thing that they both knew was that they were meant to be together, since before they ever even met.
