My Rock of Love

As the family exchanged gifts they all giggled as Frankie posed for pictures with the metallic colored bows placed all over his body. Nicole lay against Kevin's back as she took pictures. Joe made it better by wrapping himself in wrapping paper from the floor. Nick put the icing on the cake by placing a sticker on Joe's mouth 'Don't open till x-mas' written on it. Flashes of the family's cameras were seen trying to capture the innocent moment as they sat around the tree. "Marry Christmas", the eldest Jonas whispered before kissing Nicole's cheek. Wrapping his arm around her tighter she giggled feeling his cold steel necklace against her neck. On the chain now lay a silver ring with their initials inscribed around it. Joe broke out of his Christmas cocoon ripping off the sticker then groaning because it hurt. "Damn", he moaned as he rubbed his lips. Mr. Jonas gave him a look which made Joe apologize. Taking a deep breath everyone just sat and talked before they were off to head their separate ways for the day. Nicole had to schedule for herself for her next semester of college. The boys were going to be rehearsing for a New Years concert in New York.

Laying on her bed with her laptop Nicole searched for classes she could take in her field for the semester. Modeling, Lawyer, Law, Police,… nothing that involved simply stage like they did where she was. 'It's LA you'd think they'd have everything'. Sighing she signed for normal, math, English, history, and acting class. 'It's the best I can do...' Just as she closed her laptop a knock came to her door.

Nick walked in with a sigh and lay on her bed. "We've got a problem", he sighed. She laid beside him running her fingers through his tight curls waiting to hear his problem. "Zoe can't make it to New York to sing the new song". She looked down at Nick, he wasn't upset at Zoe, but he really wanted to show off their new song at the New Years Eve party. He growled covering his face with one of her pillows. As she held him she let him vent, when he suddenly sat up with a start. "I GOT IT!", he shouted.

Without even asking he took Nicole's hand dragging her to their practice room. Joe was sitting on the couch texting, while Kevin strummed on his guitar to think. "Guys, Nicole can do it!" All eyes went to Nick as if he were nuts. It wasn't that she couldn't sing, it just wasn't her profession and she wanted to keep it that way. "Come on! She can do it let's try it!" Nick pushed Nicole in front of a mic as they started the song. Nervously she started the song singing with Joe and blushed as Kevin and Nick would sing with them. Closing her eyes she sang it very well, and as they finished the guys all nodded.

The rest of the night they changed things up, instead of Joe singing the lead they tried Nick, but he sang too high for her to harmonize. "Why don't we try with Kevin like we had before?", Joe suggested with a smirk.

As the couple sang it sounded nice, just as the boys wanted. Nick worked it to the point that Kevin sang the beginning, they all sang the chorus, then Joe sang the bridge bringing it all together. "New York here we come!"

They practiced all week, although Kevin and Nicole were together all day, it wasn't the same because they weren't alone. Kevin ever the perfectionist would get frustrated when he didn't hit the right note, or even if Nicole didn't and would stop. "Alright let's take a brake", Nicole suggested walking over to Kevin. The two younger boys left the room to get waters. Putting down his guitar he sat on the floor soon joined by her. "Baby...what's wrong?"

Running her fingers through his hair she straddled his hips. "This is why I don't have solos, the pressure gets to me", he sighed leaning his head against her chest. She lightly scratched his back as he lay soft kisses on her collar bone.

Shivers went up and down her spine as she felt his lips on her. "You could change it back to where Joe sings it, it didn't sound that bad it", she said blushing trying to comfort him.

"No, I can take it, I just won't sing it when we go on tour", he chuckled feeling her shiver as he kisses up her neck to behind her ear. Soon they were joined by the boys and they tried to practice again doing better this time.

They arrived in New York the day before New Years Eve making them all smile. Nicole couldn't help but smile knowing she and Kevin would be going ice skating and for a long walk to see the lights tonight. like our first date

As she entered her own hotel room she smiled jumping on the bed. 'Going on a date with Kevin tonight, tomorrow we sing on live TV, and then a kiss at midnight!' she smiled as she jumped and laid back on her bed. Could this year be any better! Next year is going to rock! She took a short nap before beginning to get ready for the date.

Nicole smiled as she walked to her door after hearing a knock. Her smile wasn't as bright when she saw Paul Sr. standing at the door. "Well Nicole you look nice for a radio interview", he chuckled. Radio interview? He noticed the confused look on her face and looked down. "You and the boys are going to do a radio interview, I thought one of the boys told you"

She shook her head and explained she would change and be in the lobby in five minutes before she shut the door. She changed into a shirt, jeans and long black jacket before she walked out the door running into a chest. "Hey, I was just coming to get you!", laughed Kevin as he pulled her back up. He held her hand as she looked up at him with sad eyes. "What's wrong? Aren't you excited?"

"I thought we were going on a date tonight-", she began.

"Oh, I thought Nick had told you when we were on the plane? I guess I shouldn't have assumed", he sighed holding her close to him trying to apologies with his soft hazel eyes. She just nodded as they headed down to the lobby waiting for Joe to finish doing his hair. Before they were late Joe slid down the banister of the hotel down to everyone. "Alright let's go before Joe Rosati has a fit"

The music played softly as everyone in the studio chatted for a while. "And we're back with the Jonas Brothers, and Nicole McCoy. Now Nicole I gotta ask which Jonas is your favorite?", Joe Rosati asked not missing a beat. Nicole looked over to the boys wanting badly to hold Kevin's hand the whole time.

She bit her lower lip before looking at each of them. "I'd have to say...all of them"

"That's right boys, it's the hair chicks love the hair", the middle Jonas said running his fingers through his growing locks.

Rolling her eyes Nicole shook her head at the younger Jonas. "Not because of their hair, but they are just really close and haven't really let all this craziness get to their heads", she looked over at the boys and laughed. "At least not all of them"

"That was kind of a cop out", Joe Rosati laughed. "Let's take some calls and see which Jonas everyone is feeling", he clicked buttons and began to get screams from the phones.

"JOE WE LOVE YOU!", shouted a group of girls on the line. They all laughed as Joe blushed.

It was soon late when they left the radio station. When they finally got back to their rooms it was midnight. The boys decided to stay at the studio to sign autographs. "You did great! Maybe if we do well for New Years we'll take you on tour with us this summer!", Kevin laughed pulling her onto her bed with him. She smiled because they planned to have a date in her room just the two of them watching movies.

"I thought you didn't like the pressure?", she asked not so sure about the idea.

He shrugged brushing hair out of her face. "If you were going to be singing with us, I'd deal with it", he kissed her softly making the kiss more intense as a knock came to the door. Kevin groaned as Nicole pulled away and walked to the door.

Joe stood at the door smiling. "Kevin's in there I'm guessing" she nodded leaning against the door wanting to get back to their date. "Well we all have an interview tomorrow so he should get to the room before Nick and I lock the door for the night". Without another word Kevin was out the door and in his room with his brothers. When did life get so weird?

It was almost time for the big performance as Nicole stood on the roof of the building they were playing. Looking down she saw the screaming people making her more nervous. Slowly arms wrapped around her waist. "Be careful I don't want you falling off", said a soft voice that always sent shivers down her spine. "Come on, we have ten more minutes" Kissing the skin behind her ear Kevin walked her over to the stage.

Soon lights were all around her and the boys as the cameras began to film again. "This is Ryan Seacrest and we are here with the Jonas Brothers about to premier their new song 'I Want To Tell You Now' featuring a new voice Zoe- sorry Nicole McCoy! HIT IT!"

A strong electric guitar played added by drums and piano as the song began. Kevin took a deep breath before closing his eyes listening for the songs soft melody.

Kevin looked over to Nicole as she softly hummed before she came in.

As the song came to an end heavy breathing could be heard from the mics. Screams were erupted all around, but they all landed on deaf ears of Nicole as she was hugged by Joe, then Kevin and Nick. Laughing the group all waved to the cameras saying their 'Thank you'.

"Think you'll want to join us on tour?", Joe laughed standing beside Nicole with his arms across his chest to keep in the warmth. She looked over to him and shrugged then looked to the clock seeing it was almost midnight.

Sitting in class was rough for Nicole as she listened to the professor instruct the class on the five steps to no where. I KNOW THIS ALREADY! she sighed as she played with the pencil in her hand. Luckily class would be over in ten minutes as she leaned back. "Hey, do you have the script book? I need to pick a scene for the next project", asked a stranger behind her.

Turning around to answer the question she was met with the brightest blue eyes. She nodded and smiled holding out her small book. With a sweet smile the man took it 'Thanks'. She turned around then was tapped on the shoulder causing her to turn again. "Do you have a partner for this? I mean if you do that's cool", he asked quietly. Shaking her head he smirked. "Would you be my partner then?"

She shrugged and nodded as he began to flip through the book. "I hear For Whom The Southern Belle Tolls is a good choice", she whispered. He nodded flipping to the page where the scene began and laughed causing eyes to fly to them. Blushing she ducked down in her seat.'Sorry'

Everybody looked to the clock and saw it was time that class ended. Leaving the room Nicole walked out to the parking lot toward a car when she remembered Kevin drove her. 'I'll just get the trolley'.

Walking in the direction of the town her thoughts were interrupted when a horn honked beside her. "Need a ride!", she turned to see the blue eyed wonder in his black mustang. 'uh, sure?'. He stopped the car and let her get in before he sped off into the direction she was heading. "So, why aren't you driving?", he asked taking the directions she gave him.

"My car is with my brother until I get one here", she smiled shrugging.

They talked all the way. His name was Stan, he was from Miami and moved to LA to be the next Brad Pitt. Rolling her eye Nicole still listened until they arrived at the Jonas driveway. "Wow you must be rich!", he shouted pulling in.

"Actually this is where my boyfriend and his family live...", she said grabbing her bag and book. "Well, see you next class"

"Yeah, see you then..."

The J.O.N.A.S show was a success during the fall so Disney asked the boys to work on another season which everyone agreed to.

Nicole made the joke to Kevin and Joe that they were doing the common actor thing. 'Your playing high school students, when you're no longer that age'. They both laughed as they went on set to work on a scene anyway.

Nicole was offered an audition for a major role in the second season. The boys all were excited, helping her with her lines. Rehearsing with her any chance they had. She was a bit over whelmed with school, the role, and working on her scene with Stan, but ignored it.

A week after her audition Nicole's phone rang. The casting director began telling her she did very well in her audition making her smile with each word.

Thoughts of her and Kevin on set everyday flashed by. She giggled remembering when the boys talked of how fun it would be. 'We'd totally have a third season on our hands no contest'. Her smile faded as they explained that another girl got the role.

Days later she shrugged it off and simply helped out on set when she could. It's not the life for me anyways.

For the next few weeks Nicole would meet Stan after class to work on the scene. When they finished she would go home where she'd practice it with Kevin making him laugh. 'Mama says I'm retarded!' making him and Nicole laugh harder every time he said the line. "I wish you could do this with me", she said snuggling with him on his bed.

He closed the book before holding her to him. "Stan's good looking enough, he'll do well",he sighed. He met Stan the day after she was taken home by him. Something wasn't right with Stan, but he kept it to himself.

Nicole sat up and looked down at Kevin. "Kevin I love you, and Stan isn't THAT good looking", she said trying to help him understand. She kissed his neck and felt his arms wrap around her tightly all thoughts of any attraction between her and Stan forgotten for now.

It was the day that Stan and Nicole were going to perform their scene. As they began it was going nicely making everyone laugh until Stan took the scene too far. He began walking her into a wall trying to 'sex up the scene' the teacher would refer it as.

"Lawrence and I are getting along just fine aren't we-", before she finished the line he kissed her. Pushing him off her she smacked him. Giggles were heard as she walked out of the class in a huff.

Nicole sighed as she pulled into the Jonas driveway. She missed being at college with Meg, and the girls. She was just glad that it was her last class for the day, and of the semester. She laughed at herself because she knew she would be taking courses over the summer and into the fall to get a jump start on her degree. Sadly she hadn't told Kevin yet, but they would make it work like they had when she had school during the fall. Short visits won't kill me.

She saw Kevin on his phone talking about the tour again as she walked in the door. "Yeah, I'm sure she'd love to come with us. Nicole actually just walked in the door so I gotta go", he said with a smile walking over to her. He hung up his phone before he walked across the floor to meet her. "What are you doing home? Don't you have class?"

"Stan messed up the scene...I got mad and left", she sighed.

"What happened?", he looked down into her eyes. Why did he ask that? She took in a large breath before explaining everything from the 'sexed up scene' to the kiss. His face went from concern to anger as he walked toward the door.

"Kev, don't it's not worth it!"

He ignored her words, but as her hand lay on his shoulder he turned around. "Did you kiss back?"

"WHAT!?"

"Did you kiss him back?", he asked baring his hazel eyes into her soft brown ones.

"Of coarse not!", she breathed out. He sighed and nodded. "Kevin, what were you talking about on the phone?",she asked trying to change the subject, hopefully to a happy one. He softly smiled as he walked her to the living room.

He sat her down holding her hand running his thumb along it. "Nicole, the song we sang at New Years has been a hit! We actually put out the one that Zoe recorded with us and our version whipped it! We want you to come on tour with us and sing", he said looking into her eyes hoping she would say yes.

She smiled in shock thinking deeply. What does this mean? She blushed at the thought. Until she remembered they would tour all summer when she would take classes. What about school? I don't want to give up on that! She stood letting go of his hands as she paced the floor. She was thinking about touring. She knew she could take online classes. Screaming girls all over. Being exposed more then you have already. The more she thought about it the more she became scared. She loved Kevin, but this wasn't the life for her. Her life was behind the curtain that's where her joy came from.

The longer it took her to answer the more his smile faded. He stood and held her back against his chest waiting. Knowing this was a big decision he held his breath. As much as he was good friends with Zoe, and wanted her career to be a success, he wanted more to be with Nicole. He wanted to experience what being on stage with the one you love was like. Joe got his chance on more then one occasion, Nick had his chance with Miley once upon a time. He loved her and was wanting to be selfish, even if he never told her about how jealous he got.

He was jealous of all the guys that saw her everyday in classes. He wanted to be there when she'd sit in class writing notes, he wanted to be that one she went to for study sessions.

Granted he could leave the touring behind and join her in school. The thrill and the rush of the screaming fans he liked so much more. He held her praying that God would send him a sign.

His grip loosened as she turned in his arms, tears rolling down her cheek.

She shook her head as she wiped her eyes hoping he didn't see. She looked into his eyes explaining about going to school during summer which angered him. His eyes burned as he walked away. "...I want to move back to the West and do school, it's just too nutty here", she sighed.

Kevin didn't listen as he went into the kitchen to get water. She followed behind him biting her lower lip thinking maybe the distance would be too hard this time. "Nicole, that's a year of working around things. This year the tour isn't as free wheeling as it use to. We're doing a least one hundred shows!", he said opening his water bottle.

She looked down as she thought about what he said. I could just suck it up and take online courses… She then remembered how much she supported him and his choice, but now was her turn to think about herself. "If distance is going to be such a problem......maybe we need to just....take a breath", she whispered.

Kevin dropped the now open water bottle spilling water all over. "What?"

She knew he heard her, she looked up into his eyes, and saw pain in them. He began to walk over to her before she backed away to go to her room to pack. It's for the best

Joe and Nick walked into the kitchen looking around at the scene before them. "What's all the screaming about?", Joe asked before stepping in the puddle of water. "What's this?", he asked before he saw the water bottle on the floor.

Kevin didn't hear a word as he stood in shock in the kitchen. "She, she's leaving", he said in disbelief.

The two boys exchanged looks before they realized what Kevin meant. "Kev, she'll just be a phone call away dude. You guys are strong you can take talking for a few months before she starts visiting us for holidays again!", Nick said trying to stay positive as he clapped his oldest brothers back.

Kevin turned around in anger. "No, Nick, she's leaving me, like no dating, no me and her!", he shouted.

"Then why are you down here telling us! Go up there and beg for her back!", Joe said pushing his older brother toward the stairs.

Nicole tried holding back tears after she called the airlines to get a plane ticket out. They couldn't find any time earlier then the next day so she took it. It gives me time to say goodbye. She was packing her bags before a knock came to her door. "Come in"

She regretted using those words as Kevin walked in. Tears poured down her face as he closed the gap between them striding over to her bed to hold her. "Please, don't leave", he held tears back trying to convince himself that his world wasn't burning down.

She shook her head against his chest as she held onto him for dear life. She wanted so badly to tell him she was only kidding that she would love to tour with him. She wanted to be that superstar girlfriend who would tour and sing with him, but it just wasn't her. "I love Kevin Jonas", she whispered against his shirt having nothing more meaningful to say. Suddenly both their bodies were shaking from crying.

He looked down into her eyes before crashing his lips to hers. A salty mixture came between their lips as they kissed, but they continued knowing that once they parted it the bad dream would be reality. They put every ounce of love into this kiss trying to make the moment last.

"Kids! I brought pizza!", shouted Paul from the bottom of the stairs. Three happy boys ran down grabbing one of the three boxes from their father. Mr. Jonas noticed there were two bodies missing. "Where are Kevin and Nicole?"

Joe and Nick looked at each other before shrugging not knowing what was to come. They thought it was best if they not say.

Nicole and Kevin never went down stairs that night, they lay in Nicole's bed comforting each other. He helped her pack causing them both to cry again. Kevin lay beside Nicole tracing every curve of her face memorizing every freckle, hair, anything he could before he fell asleep. "I'll always love you", he whispered as a tear fell down his face closing his eyes.

Nicole choked back tears after she heard his breathing even out. She could still feel his callused fingers tracing her face. It took all of her strength not to open her eyes as he did. Slowly sleep took over bringing her to a place she wished she could always be. With Kevin forever.

The sun hit softly against Kevin's face warming his cheeks. He turned to face Nicole to say good bye, but found her gone. In a panic he got off the bed to find her bag and everything gone. He ran downstairs looking in every room before a soft feminine voice broke his search. "She left this morning baby. She asked that we leave you to sleep", his mother said walking slowly up to her eldest son. She watched as he got down on his knees to cry. She held him close, tears fell from her eyes knowing this hurt Nicole as much as it did him. She saw the tears that threatened to fall down the young girls face even though she tried to hide them.

Denise wanted badly to go against Nicole's wishes so that her son could say good bye, but both women knew such an action would make it harder. Running her fingers through her sons hair she didn't regret her decision.

Kevin was soon surrounded by all of his brothers as well as his father. "God will heal your broken hearts soon son, have faith"
