When Worlds Collide
Chapter 1.
Taking one last look around her room, Lois sealed the final box with the duct tape and sat down on her bed. The walls once covered in ticket stubs from various shows and pictures now looked bare and empty. Her bed which had held some of her stuffed animals from childhood, stood stripped down to the mattress, quilt and pillow. The carpet which had worn in some places thanks to hours of practice reminded of her of how far she had come, from the little girl starting dance, to the young adult following her passion of becoming a dance teacher and taking the move to Hunington Beach in California. She was taken out of her thoughts when her puppy Lou-Lou came bounding up into her room. Sitting down so she could pet her easier, her younger sister came in carrying her favourite necklace. Looking up at Gaea, she noticed that her eyes were slightly red and watery.
"Hey, come here" the older girl said patting the space on the floor next to her and slinging her arm around her sisters shoulder. "Why you crying then Gaz?"
Gaea frowned at the use of her nickname. "You're going over to California to do your dream job, and I'll be here missing you and stuff."
"Don't be silly, I'm coming home for holidays and I'm taking my laptop with me so we can Skype providing that you're up when I am. I promise nothing is going to change." Lois said wiping away a stray tear that had fallen and giving her sister another hug before being licked affectionately by Lou-Lou.
"Yes I will miss you too Lou-Lou" she laughed as her puppy rolled over wanting her stomach to be scratched. "Besides," she carried on to Gaea "I'll still be going to school over there to get my finals so it's not a holiday you know."
"Yeah I know," Gaea sighed getting to her feet "anyway mom sent me to come get your boxes because we're all leaving in half an hour."
"Okay, I s'pose I'll give you all a hand in moving my stuff then." She replied holding out her hands indicating that she wanted help to get up off the floor.
"You're going to train as a dance teacher, get yourself up off the floor lazy." Gaea laughed before helping her sister up of the floor and starting to move the boxes.
20 minutes later all of the boxes were either in the car or up in the loft, and Lou-Lou was given one last walk by Lois before she went away.
"Are you ready now Lolo?" Her mother asked her as Lois took one last look around her home. The same home that she had lived in all her life and had never been away from for more that 4 weeks at a time.
"I guess so" She said with a sigh. Stealing one last glance at the house, she got into the back of the family car and began the journey that would start her new life. The car ride to the airport was spent in silence as everyone in the car seemed to be lost in their own thoughts. Lois's dad occasionally asked questions about where she was staying and did she have enough money, but her answers were short and sweet as she tried to keep herself from falling apart in the back seat. Meanwhile in the front seats, both her parents were trying to hold back tears of their own. Although the ride was short, Lois thought that it had gone on for hours and as much as she wished that time would slow down, it wouldn't and all too soon she was saying goodbye to her family.
"We're so proud of you Lolo" her mother gushed, tears now falling down her face "don't forget that your cousin will be waiting for you at the airport over there, just text her when you've landed. We're only a Skype call away don't forget." With one last hug, she was passed on to her father, who gave her a long hug after another round of questions. Finally, she came to say goodbye to both her sisters. Both had tears in their eyes. Yve being the oldest of the three girls had always tried to put on a brave face, but this time it wasn't working.
"Good luck Lolo, you'll be amazing out there. Just remember us when you're rich and famous won't you?" Yve joked when she eventually let go of her younger sister.
"I will" was all Lois could manage before Gaea jumped on her wishing her luck and asking her to send pictures every day.
"Flight A133 is now boarding and will be departing in 30 minutes, this is the final call for flight A133" the announcer said over the speaker phone, signalling that it was time for Lois to go. After another round of hugs, good lucks and goodbyes, she finally made her way onto the plane and settled down for the 9 hour plane journey.
After 4 films and both of the in-flight meals, the plane finally began to descend into California. She allowed to let herself get a little more excited now that she was actually there, and allowed her mind to wander about seeing her family for the first time in almost 10 years. As soon as the plane landed, Lois grabbed her phone and text her cousin telling her what gate she was in and that she had had a decent flight. A few minutes later, her cousin text her back telling her where she would be waiting for her. After grabbing her suitcases, and snapping a quick picture of the view from the airport window, she found her way out to where Ellie said that she would be waiting. After walking for about 5 minutes, she spotted the familiar hair of her cousin. Running over she wrapped her arms around her cousin, who returned the action as soon as she realized who it was.
"Lois! Oh my days I haven't seen you in 10 years! You look so grown up!" Ellie exclaimed holding her cousin out at arms length and looking her up and down.
"So do you!" Lois replied doing the same, glad that Ellie had kept her English accent. Not that she had anything against the American accent, it was just so that she didn't feel like the odd one out with the way that she talked.
"Well get in then, I'll put your bags in the back don't worry, the boot is awkward anyway" The red-haired girl explained. Lois climbed into the front of the Dodge Charger and waited for Ellie to start the car. "Mom and dad are really excited to see you again, and I told my friends about you and they're all dying to meet you!" Ellie rambled on through the drive home.
"I haven't seen you Aunt Alison and Uncle Chris in ages dude, how have they been? And how's Will been doing? Has he got an American accent because of how young he was when you moved here?"
Ellie just laughed at her cousin's questions. "Yes, they're all fine, Will is fine, he's got into basketball now and no he still has an English accent, I think mom would flip if he developed an American accent."
The older girl just smiled. Even though Lois was 6 months older than her cousin, Ellie had always been the more mature one which was good as Lois had always come to Ellie anytime that she had a problem, even in America she would always get a reply the next time that she was online. The rest of the journey was spent talking about how different each others' lives were and the sort of stuff that they would each be doing in the summer that was before both of them went into their separate colleges.
"Oh there's someone that I want you to meet, he's a little sarcastic but I'm sure you'll hit it off" Ellie said as she pulled into the driveway of the house she shared with her parents.
This is where it would all begin.
