All That I'll Ever Need

Twenty-Eight: Rehearsal Dinner

Smoothing out the material of her dress, Isla sighed a little, her heart racing at the mere thought of the night that awaited her. She had never been good with people, she hated large crowds, but Iker was insistent. He wanted a rehearsal dinner and that meant Isla sucking it up. He'd made everything else about her and she knew she had to give him this one thing, it only seemed fair. “Mia's content with the baby sitter” Iker called as he stepped into the large room. Isla turned a little and nodded her head, forcing a soft smile. She wanted to be excited, their second wedding was only days away, but instead she was nervous. Iker had gone all out to make something amazing and she didn't want to be the thing that made it go wrong. “Amor” Iker purred as he edged towards her “Everything will be fine” he noted, a small smile fixed on his face. He knew she was nervous, but he was sure it would work out. As long as it was her at his side, he didn't care what happened, only that she remained with him.

“How do you know that Iker?” Isla returned, her grey eyes shining slightly with tears. Iker lifted his hand and brushed it over her skin, coaxing the tears from her eyes. “Because I do. You could fall over, I could mess up the vows, but I wouldn't care for a second. This isn't about perfection Isla, this is about me getting to show the world how much you mean to me. All that matters is that you and I renew the vows we took seventeen months ago” he explained, his thumb brushing away her tears. Isla sniffed a little before she nodded. He was right, things being perfect wasn't what mattered, them being together was.“Are you ready to go?” Iker questioned after a moment. Isla offered her reflection a small gander before she nodded, placing her petite hand into his. Iker pulled the hand to his lips and kissed it softly, assuring her once more that everything would be alright.

“Auntie” Isla giggled as she tossed her arms around the older woman, hugging her tightly. It'd been years since she had seen her aunt, almost two, but Isla was glad that Iker had found her. The older woman was the one who had taken her in when her parents had passed. “You look so pretty Isla” the older woman cooed “Being married has certainly done you wonders” she fussed. Isla blushed a little before Iker appeared, a small curious smile on his face. “Iker, this is my Aunt Andrea, she was the one who looked after me after my parents were gone” she explained softly. Iker noted the hurt in her voice and placed his arm around her waist, cuddling her close to him. “You're the famed aunt Andi then?” Iker mused. Andrea nodded. “And you would be Iker, the man who has made my niece happier than ever” she replied. Iker chuckled modestly and nodded. “It is nice to meet you Andrea” he smiled, his hand extending towards her.

Andrea shook his hand firmly before she watched Isla step away, leaving her with the keeper. “You had best not hurt her Iker” she mumbled. She didn't want to be an issue, but she wasn't having Isla get hurt. She had been through enough in her life. Iker's brown eyes widened a little. “I mean it Iker, she has been through a lot in her twenty six years on this planet, and I do not want her getting hurt again. She deserves something good” Andrea explained. Iker swallowed a little, but nodded. “I have no intentions of hurting her Andrea. Isla and Mia are the two most important things in my life and I would gladly lay down my life before I let anything bad happen to either of them” he noted strongly. Andrea offered him a little look before she nodded, offering him a small crooked smile. “You're a good man Iker” she mused as she moved to step past him. “Gracias” he returned.

Tapping the side of his glass, Iker pushed himself to his feet, his eyes watching as all attention turned to him. “As is tradition, I would like to make a speech about my lovely wife” he mused. Isla, who was sat in the seat beside him, hid her face a little, trying desperately to mask the blush that had already appeared on her cheeks. Iker chuckled a little. “Isla tends to blush when I speak about her” he noted, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth. “But that is perhaps one of the things I love most about her. I love that she blushes every time I mention her name. I love that she sleeps in my shirt, regardless of whether she has pyjamas or not. I love that she insists on cooking for me even though she can only cook about two meals. But most of all, I love that she is the most selfless, caring and passionate woman I have ever met. That was why I married her after 22 days, because after those three weeks, I couldn't envisage my life without her. I wanted her there with me all the time and I still want her there now. I love you Isla, more than anything” he explained. Isla, who was blushing profusely, stood up at his side and press a soft kiss to his cheek, mumbling a soft thank you. Iker smiled a little. “You don't have to thank me for speaking the truth” he teased.

Isla shook her head a little before she turned to face their gathered guests. Taking in a deep breath, she forced a smile. “I would like to say a few words about Iker” she announced, her voice a little shy. Iker took her hand and squeezed it a little, assuring her that it was alright. “When I met Iker, I had just been given the worst possible news. My doctor had just told me that I only had six months to live” she explained. Iker squeezed her hand once more. “I was devastated, but then I, literally, walked into Iker and within an instant, he made it better. His smile was contagious, his positivity was infectious, and I couldn't help but fall for him. He made the months before my surgery more bearable and I can never thank him enough for that. He took the worst day of my life and made it one of the best simply by not looking where he was going” she explained, a small giggle falling out of her mouth. Iker smiled softly too and placed his arm around her waist, drawing her close. “You're the best thing Iker, the one thing I have no regrets over” she noted, her grey eyes staring up into his. Iker flashed yet another warm smile as he pushed her hair away from her eyes. “To Iker and Isla” Sergio called as he watched his two friends. They were caught up in one another and Sergio couldn't blame them. He doubted he'd seen two people more infatuated with one another.

Iker allowed the cheer to echo for a moment before he pulled Isla's lips to his, kissing her lovingly.
