Chapter 14

New years eve has always been a big deal in my family, seeing in a new year and starting a brand new chapter of your life story. This year however was a new experience for me, because for the first time in forever I had someone special to share it with, and it was amazing.

I had been planning this day for weeks, wanting it to be perfect, and I had a really good feeling about it. I spent the day with my dad, until seven o’clock when I had promised to pick up Kaden, and take him out to dinner.

Now New Year isn’t just about new beginnings, it’s also about reflecting back on the year you just had… what you experienced, the things you’ve lost and the things you have achieved in that time.

I experienced a lot throughout 2014, some good and some bad, but I survived. I realised that my mum is never going to accept who I am, and that I needed to get on with my life but she will always be my mum, even if she does hate me right now.

As for good experiences I’ve had a few, I’ve learnt a lot and I’ve come a long way in my job, so listing everything would take forever. At the beginning of the year I lost my great grandfather, and it was hard but I also found love as well.

Picking Kaden up from his house, we made our way into central London, and headed to the restaurant. Dinner was great, and getting to spend some time with Kaden alone made it even better, but the night wasn’t over. It was eleven o’clock by the time we reached the London Eye, which meant we had an hour before Big Ben struck midnight, and the fireworks began.

We found somewhere to stand close to the river, and I couldn’t help but smile as Kaden wrapped his arms around me from behind, kissing my cheek.

“Tonight’s been good,” Kaden said as I settled back into his warmth.

“It has… it’s been different,” I replied placing my hands on top of his, which were resting on my stomach.

“Of course it’s different, normally by now we would be drunk off our heads, and we wouldn’t remember any of it in the morning.”

“I’m glad we’ll remember this one.”

“What’s your resolution this year babe?” Kaden asked.

“Not telling,” I stated, “In my family we have a tradition… each year we write down a list of things that we want to happen in the year ahead, and put them in a tin.”

“Then what?”

“On New Years Eve just before midnight, we open the tin and see how many of the things on the list we accomplished… I was kind of hoping that this year we could do it together.”

“Won’t your dad want you to do that with him?”

“I already did, but I want us to have something special… something we can share, and I sound like a complete girl…” I mumbled pulling out of his arms only for him to grab my arm, and turn me to face him.

“You don’t sound like a girl, I’d love to be a part of it Landon,” Kaden said kissing me, and pulling me into a hug with a smile.

The hour leading up to midnight seemed to drag, but I found that I cared less about the approach to midnight, and more about being with Kaden. Finally the countdown to midnight began, and I looked over to Kaden who had taken my hand.

5… 4… 3… 2… 1… HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The roar of people cheering and the explosions from the fireworks, which lit up the sky, quickly became nothing but background noise as Kaden kissed me. If this is love… then I’ve fallen hard, and for the first time I don’t want to be saved.
