Mike’s POV- September 2014
I looked at Jake who fixed his brace and sighed.
“You ok?” I asked him.
He nodded.
“Yea, its way less swollen”
I nodded.
“Why didn’t you go with them?” I asked him.
He shook his head.
“Nah, I’d rather stay here. It’s hot and my leg hurts when I move it a lot”
I nodded and he turned to me.
“Why is the wedding so soon?”
“Your sister wanted it that way” I said.
He nodded.
“You could have gone to see the wedding dress” I said.
He shook his head.
“I saw it already”
I raised an eyebrow.
“When Marisol got in from Chicago. After the dodger game we stopped by so I could see it”
I nodded and he smiled.
“I think you’ll like it”
“I don’t care what she wears” I said.
He nodded and smiled.
“Did she ask you already?” I asked.
He nodded; he and Isaac were going to walk her down the aisle.
“Do you know what Nana’s husband died of?”
I looked straight and looked at the picture he was looking at. Max, Nana’s husband was Isaac and Marisol’s godfather. He got a few days off before he was deployed back to the middle-east. In the picture he and nana were holding Isaac and Marisol.
“He died in action or something like that. They never found his body though but they did find his dog tags so we just assume” I said.
He nodded slowly and looked at me.
“Gulf war” I added.
He nodded and I leaned back. Nana wasn’t as old as the name made her assume. Nana was only 3 years older than their mom. Marisol’s mom died when she was 28, so Nana was 31 when this happened. This was in 1999 and it’s been 15 years, Nana is 46 years old. She was young when she lost her husband. Let’s see she got married when she was 18 and that was in 1987 and she already had two kids. Yes, Nana and Max sure loved each other right? By the time she was 21, Nana was pregnant with her 3rd child and that’s when he husband was reported missing in action. We assume he is dead since well it’s been 24 years since he was reported MIA.
“So nana was really young when she had Tommy”
I nodded.
“She was like 16 or 17” I said.
“Wow”
I nodded.
“Different times” I said.
He nodded slowly and cocked his head to the side. He had so many similarities to both Isaac and Marisol it was quite amusing. He and Marisol had the same quote Bitch face. It was true though and him and Isaac both talked by themselves.
“True, it’s weird though”
I laughed and looked at him.
“Nana is a beautiful woman, but you know she never remarried”
“Said she’s happy” I said.
“She’s like a mom to me. She practically raised me”
“I know she did” I said.
“She’s the reason why I talk Spanish. My mom and dad didn’t want me to learn Spanish”
“It’s handy” I said.
He nodded and looked at me.
“She was her first love and only love” I said.
He nodded.
“Do you love my sister? Like you love her”
I nodded.
“I love her, we dated for 2 years before I even tried a move. Your brother is intimidating” I said.
He laughed.
“Your brother has lost a lot of muscle” I said.
He nodded.
“I know, he’s a lot thinner”
I nodded.
“He’s also taller so you know” I said.
He laughed.
“I’ve seen the way you look at her, Nana looks at a portrait of her husband with that look”
I laughed and looked at him.
“We can both say that Nana’s husband was a very good looking guy” I noted.
He laughed and coughed up his water making me chuckle. I got this kid to laugh.
“You did not just say that!”
“He looked like a model Jake, he was a very good looking guy” I said.
He nodded.
“Nana isn’t bad looking either. She and him made three very attractive children” I said.
He laughed and I chuckled because it was nice seeing a smile from the kid. He was usually pouting in pain.
“Come on Jake, no one is here” I said nudging him.
He nodded and giggled lightly.
“And you know how crazy girls go with guys in uniform” I said winking at him.
He laughed and I smiled.
“Come on Jake, I’m sure you get girls when you’re in your baseball attire?” I asked.
He blushed and I grinned.
“Got a girl?” I asked.
He shook his head.
“Nah, I wouldn’t date those girls. Those just date baseball players in hope they’ll make it to the MLB”
I nodded.
“You’re young. I mean I was 23 when I found Marisol” I said.
“Nana was like 12”
“That was a long time ago though” I said.
“Isaac and Kara were 16”
I nodded.
“True” I said.
He nodded.
“Your girl will come, Marisol was 19 when we started dating. We still got time before you die single” I joked.
He laughed and nodded.
“I know”
He looked at me.
“How do you deal with it? She’s never home and neither are you during the season?”
“When we’re together we just value our time” I said.
The speaker turned up and a Caw was heard making the dogs crazy. Jake raised an eyebrow because he was probably wondering why someone would caw at the front gate microphone.
“Toff is here” I said pressing a button to let them in.
Jake looked at me.
“Come on” I said.
He followed me out and I looked at the car that pulled in.
“You should have dropped her off at Kara’s. She’s trying on her wedding dress” I said looking at his girlfriend.
She frowned and looked at him. He frowned and pouted.
“I’m tired!”
I laughed.
“You guys can choose any room, just not the first guest room, Jake is using that one” I said.
Toff smiled at Jake.
“Heard about the leg, how does it feel?”
“Sore”
Toff nodded and looked down at the kid’s leg.
“Therapy working though?”
Jake nodded and Toff’s girlfriend introduced herself to him. Toff’s girlfriend was gorgeous, and was way out of his league as he nicely put it.
“Remind me to be mad at your fiancé because Tay made me go get a suit and a dress”
I laughed.
“Oh quit your whining” I told him.
“You are so whipped”
I looked at him and at his girlfriend.
“So are you my friend. Come on in, you no touching Jake” I said getting a suitcase.
Jake’s phone began ringing and he answered it. He looked at me.
“Marisol said if she should buy food to grill?”
I nodded.
“Toff, text the guys” I said.
Toff nodded and he began doing that.
“And you go sit down. That leg needs to be elevated” I told Jake.
He laughed and walked inside.
“Oh wow, the house is beautiful”
I nodded and Toff opened a door.
“That’s the office” I said.
He opened the other door and pulled in the suitcases.
“When’s the wedding again?”
“We’re having a small wedding the 12th, We get married through the state and then on the 13th we are having the wedding” I said.
“Damn you two are serious”
I nodded.
“Very serious” I added.
“And crazy!”
“That we are” I said.
I looked at Jake who fixed his brace and sighed.
“You ok?” I asked him.
He nodded.
“Yea, its way less swollen”
