Second Chances

Ezra’s p.o.v: I catch Alix and he looks so pale, skinny and fragile. I pick him up and carry him back to my car. I drive back to my house and carry him in. my dad is passed out on the couch. I carry Alix up the stairs and into my room and lay him down on the bed. I lay on the windowsill and fall asleep. In the morning I feel someone tapping on me. Thinking it’s one of my brothers I kick the person and I hear them squeal.
“Hey!” I hear Alix yell and I get up and look at him
“Sorry” I say groggily
“It’s ok. You brought me to your house? Did I faint? The last thing I remember is you running and pulling me along” he says while awkwardly scratching his head.
“Sorry about that. I don’t know why I did that” I tell him
“It’s ok. So I did faint? And you brought me here? That’s nice of you. You could’ve just dumped me at the hospital” he says
“But that would be rude. And I am not a complete dick. So you want me to take you to the hospital?” I ask
“Sure.” He replies and I take him home

Two weeks later:
Me and Alix walk down the stairs hand in hand heading to the kitchen to see a lady, the guy Ethan, and another girl in a wheelchair. Emmerson motions me over and I see Eros and Eli just death glaring him and the boy and girl. And Maliah and Mina just standing there awkwardly. I ignore Emmerson and keep leading Alix to the kitchen.
“What do you want Alix?” I ask
“Do you have bagels or something?” he questions and I nod and bring them down
“There you go.” I sign and hand them to him then see Mina walks in
“Your dad wants you in there. And hi Alix” Mina sign
“Hey Mina.” Alix replies
“I’m not going in there” I sign angrily
“Come on. You are going whether you like it or not” Mina signs and pulls me and Alix to the living room. I get out of her grasp and walk there myself. I see a lady and the kids
“Mr. DeMarco. It was in Lisa’s will that the kids would go to you no matter what age. Estella will have to stay with you till he is 18 and Ethan is just here to support Estella. He can leave anytime he wants. I just need you to sign some papers and I will be on my way.” The social worker says
“Ezra show them to their rooms. Estella’s is on this floor. The one with the bathroom and Ethan’s is the one on top next to Eros’ room. Ok?” Emmerson signs
“Whatever you say Emmerson” I say annoyed and he looks at me in confusion and anger
“I am your father you will call me so-” he says and I turn down my hearing aids
“I’ll be back Alix” I sign and kiss him for about a minute. He doesn’t even complain he just kisses back until Emmerson pulls me off of him and pushes me to the other boys
“Ok. So let me show you guys to your rooms. Ok uhh. Estella? Follow me” I tell her and they both follow me. I go the room on this floor
“This is your room Estella. There is a bathroom in here. It’s only been used when family is over. And that’s not often. They all live in Ireland. So this is your new room. Get settled. If you need something ask Emmerson. Now Ethan your room” I say unenthusiastically and Ethan follows me to his room
“You’re dating Alix? Man he’s hot. You better watch out. I might just get him back. And I’ll let you hear him moan my na-” he says and I right hook him and he looks at me in shock
“Your rooms right here. Have fun here. You’ll fit in just fine. Most people here are dicks too” I seethe “Emmerson probably wants you back down stairs in a bit so don’t take too long” I tell him and fake smile and walk away. I walk back to Alix and Mina
“Can we leave? I don’t wanna be around Ethan or any of them” I sign
“What did Ethan say to you?” Alix asks
“Oh just about how he’s going to get you back and he’ll let me hear you moan his name. And I right hooked him” I sign angrily
“Well he deserved it” Mina signs
“Yeah he did.” Alix signs
“Why did you date him?” Mina asks
“I was fifteen, stupid, and a druggie” he replies
“Oh. Well let’s going” I sign. As I’m about to walk out someone grabs my shoulder.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Emmerson says angrily
“What does it look like? I’m leaving” I say in a smart ass attitude.
“Ethan and Estella just got here you can’t leave. And you have to help us move Maliah and Mina’s stuff in” he tells me
“Watch me leave. I don’t care what you say Emmerson. I am leaving.” I tell him and walk out. We get into the car and drive off
