Second Chances
Chapter 5: Up in the current and, taking in whole I’ve been struggling, strangling others in toll. H
Alix’s p.o.v: we get to the hospital and we go to the cancer section and the older nurses glare at me. They glare at everyone. The younger nurses are kind and they bring us stuff. I almost forget Ezra is next to me when a wave of lightheadedness and I almost lose my balance but Ezra catches me
“Alixander Moriarty. It’s time for your chemo. Would you like to be in the group or alone?” one of the nurses asks me in a soft tone
“Who’s in the group?” I ask her
“Adam Karter, Annabeth Leo, Miles Baker, and a few of the older folks” she tells me
“Group please. Can my visitor come with me?” I question
“Of course” she says in a chipper tone and she leads us to the room. I sit down and Ezra pulls up a chair they connect me to the chemo machine thing. Eh I didn’t pay attention to what it was actually called. I see Annabeth, Adam, and Miles walk in. Adam has non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, Annabeth has Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, and Miles has Hodgkin Lymphoma. All stage two like me
“Hey dude who’s your visitor?” Adam asks as they all walk up to me and Ezra
“This is Ezra DeMarco” I tell them
“This is him? Damn he’s cute. You don’t happen to be straight or Bi?” Annabeth asks him and we laugh
“No I’m gay. But I do have two older brothers and a soon to be step sister.” He chuckles
“Oh. Damn. Alix you get all the good ones.” Anna whines
“All of them? I’ve gotten one good guy that I actually wanted to see me. Not some sleaze bag who-” I say but I cut myself off in the end. During the chemo session I start to feel tired and weak. It makes me really drowsy and weak. Sometimes enough to where one of the nurses has to carry me back to my room. And I think today is one of those days. I stare into space and I think Adam can tell today is one of those day. My session is done today and they unhook me from the machine. When I try to get up but I fall and Ezra catches me and helps me back up
“You may have to carry him. It makes him really weak.” Adam says
“Ok. Come on Alix lets go to your room. Which room is that?” Ezra asks and picks me up bridal style.
“Room 11” I say faintly and I don’t think he hears me
“His Room is 11” Anna says louder
“Thank you” he says then that’s the last thing I remember before blacking out
Ezra’s p.o.v: after Annabeth tells me where his room is I try and find it
“Alix here’s your room” I tell him and I look down and he’s asleep. I put him on the bed and I cover him with the sheet. I notice there is someone else in the room and I look at them it’s that guy Adam. I think that’s his name. He says something but I don’t catch what he says.
“You’re going to have to speak slower” I tell him and he groans in annoyance
“You Can Stay If You Want Too! And I Need To Talk To You! I Barely Know You But I Know Alix And I Know He Likes You!” Adam yells screechy and it feeds back into my hearing aids hurting my ears
“Ok I didn’t say yell but that works too I guess. And he actually does like me?” I reply
“Yup. You should hear him talk about you. Ok wrong choice of words but moving on. He’s always saying how cute you are and about how you’d probably never date him because if his cancer did get worse he wouldn’t want you to miss him and he’d be afraid you’d back out and leave when he needs you the most. I told him that you wouldn’t because if you did I’d cut off your dick and feed it to a cannibal or a zombie. Whichever I see first. And I am not shitting you I will do it. And if you hurt him in will do the same thing” Adam tells me
“He likes me. Wow. Hey Adam do you know Alix’s favorite place to hang out?” I ask
“Yeah. That little Rock ’n Roll Café on Nixon and West. What’s it called Minnie’s Rock ‘n Diner? He loves the music and the food. And he’s friends with the owners. Or Hot Topic, F.Y.E, or Dana’s Vinyl shop. You’re going to take him on a date aren’t you? Awesome! I think you guys will be cute together.” He says excitedly and fast. I barely caught what he said
“I’ll take him to Minnie’s and then to the park near there. He has a phone right?” I ask
“Yeah he does. I’ll give him your phone number if you need.” Adam says
“Yes please” I reply then the nurse walks in
“You will have to leave. Mr. Moriarty is asleep and he has group therapy in an hour and visitors are not allowed to stay for that. I hope you enjoyed your visit” The nurse says. I write my number down on a note pad in the room then place it on the table
“I hope you sleep well. Goodbye Alix” I say and kiss his forehead and walk out
