Second Chances
Chapter 6: Second Go
Ezra’s p.o.v: After I leave the hospital I go to one of the local Diners. It’s pretty new and I have never been there so I thought I’d go today while it started pouring buckets of rain. I walk in and it’s not very busy. I take a seat and about ten minutes later a waitress walks up to me. She starts talking to me very fast and I don’t catch what she says so I look at her and try to read her lips. She looks at me, gasps, and drops everything. Probably another lady who knows about what happened to me and wants to give me pity
“Evangeline” She says as I read her lips and I look at her wide eyed
“Do I know you?” I ask her and she starts crying and I just stare at her in confusion. She yells for someone and a man about late sixties walks out and runs to her and looks at me. They both are talking too fast for me to catch what they are saying I try talking and waving my hands but they don’t pay attention so I slam my hands on the table and they look at me in confusion
“If you want to talk to me speak louder and or slower. I am deaf honey and it’s kinda rude to ignore someone when they are trying to give you a forewarning.” I say rudely and I fold my arms in frustration.
“You sure are Angel’s son. You look so much like her. I know Eros and Eli look like that dick of a husband of hers. What’s your name dear?” the lady asks me slower and louder now
“Ezra DeMarco. And you guys are?” I ask them
“I’m your Grandpa Jesse and this is your Aunt Mimi. How’s your mom?” the man says
“Wow that’s how long you pricks haven’t talked to us. You must be some family. She’s dead and has been for sixteen years” I spit at them
“She’s dead.” I see Mimi say
“I feel like such a dick. I know she said to stay away from her and the family but if she hadn’t she still be alive.” Jesse says
“She pushed you away? Why?” I ask
“Your dad and mom had done some stuff when Elijah was born and it wasn’t very good so we wanted to take custody of you guys. Your dad had gotten into a bad habit of alcohol and he and your mom always fought. And Eros would always try to run and Eli couldn’t do anything about it he was really little. And I know your dad got better. I mean he’s the C.E.O of a big company. Or so we’ve heard. We would like to see Eros and Elijah again. What are they now twenty something? And your how old?” Jesse questions
“Sixteen. You can come over whenever you can. And I came here for food. I didn’t expect a family reunion.” I chuckle
“Mijo what do you want. It’s on the house. Oh my god you haven’t ever tried Grandma’s beans or rice. They’re the best in the world. You have to meet the family.” Mimi tells me excitedly
“Yeah. What about next Friday? I have a date this Friday.” I tell her
“Who’s the lucky lady?” Jesse asks
“Lucky man. His name is Alixander Moriarty.” I tell them with an attitude
“Oh. You’re gay just like your uncle Alan. We’re not homophobic don’t worry Mijo. So next Friday. Bring the lucky man if you want. And invite Elijah and Eros. You know it was your dad’s idea to block us out. I wish you had gotten raised with us in your life. But I know now that we know you guys are still around here grandma is going to spoil you three. And I’ll make you some enchiladas” Mimi says
“I’ll see if Eli will but Eros can be stubborn and a dickhead so. He may not be as willing. But I’ll definitely be there” I tell them and smile
“You have a bit of an accent don’t you? It’s not Spanish. Nor Irish. What is it?” Jesse asks me
“It’s a deaf accent. I can’t exactly hear myself very well so I got it.” I tell them
“Oh. What school do you go to?” Mimi asks
“Lauren’s school for the disabled.” I tell her
“I think your cousin goes there. Connor Torres.” Jesse says
“I may know him.” I lie. I know him. He’s one of the people who bullies me, Mina, J.D. and Rikki
“Well you will meet him next Friday.” Mimi says
“Well we have to get back to work. See you later Mijo. Here’s our phone numbers. Bye” Jesse says and gives me there phone numbers and they get back to work. About twenty minutes later my food comes. After I finish I try to pay but Jackson refuses. And I give up when he starts talking to fast. After that I leave. And I just go to sleep. I do have school the next day.
