When Does the Pretending End?

I watch her face reacts to what she was looking at. She looked so beautiful. Her eyes were dazzling. “What is all of this?” she asks. I lead her towards the fire. “The night you first came here” I say. “Cris, we've been through this” she says. “Let me finish” I say nudging our noises together. I signal for her to sit and she kicks of her shoes and slowly sits on one of the cushions on the floor. “That night you came here for the wrong reason, so I thought we should have a do over” I say. “That is such a sweet idea” she says smiling up at me. “Now you relax here and I’ll get the rest of the food. And put Marcosa into another room” I say staring at my dog as he sits by Lucy’s feet. “Aww” she says rubbing his ear. “The last thing I need is for him to jump all over you when you are eating” I say. “You just want to be the one that jumps on me” she says biting her lip. I groan. “You have know idea” I say. I have done nothing all day but think about Lucy. Jezz I must have texted her a million times today. I never do things like that.

“That was delicious” she says resting her head on my shoulder. “My cooking is getting better” I joke. “It is actually. A girl could get used to this” she says as we sit staring at the fire. “How was your day?” I ask. “Really busy. I had so much paper work on my desk. It made me regret going in” she says. “I told you to stay here” I say. “Mmm. Then Elena and Josh thought I was going mad as I kept giggling and smiling to myself because this hunk was texting me” she says looking at me. “What can I say? I get bored when you’re not around” I say. And she laughs. “You not going to ask how Elena and Josh reacted?” she asks. “Did you tell them?” I ask. I know they mean the world to her, but I didn’t want her to rush into telling them. Especially since I don’t think they will be happy.

“Yes. Apparently it was kind off obvious according to Elena. Well that you liked me anyway” she says grinning. “You sure she didn’t think you were just as smitten with me” I ask. “If I hear one more time than I’m smitten, I’ll scream” she says. “Don’t speak to Jorge anytime soon so. He reckons your pretty smitten with me” I say. “You told him” she asks. “Well I had to make sure he doesn’t organise too much things that will take me away from my girlfriend” I say. “Your not going to get sick of saying that anytime soon are you?” she asks and takes a sip of her water. “Girlfriend” I say and she nods. “Nope. Cos you are my gorgeous, sexy and smart girlfriend” I say placing a kiss on her cheek.

“Josh is going to see Tina at the weekend. And I’m going with him” Lucy says turning her face to look at me. I turn to look at the fire. “Are you going to tell her?” I ask. “Of course I am. I just don’t know how I’m going tell her. Josh is having enough troubling getting his head around you and me together for real. I have no idea how she is going to react” she says and I pull her closer to me. “You don’t have to tell her” I say. “Yes I do. I’m not lying to her anymore. Plus I want to be seen with you out in public. Have to make sure people know that you’re mine” she says. I take her necklace between my fingers. “I am yours” I say. “Just don’t feel like you have to tell her for me. If Josh isn’t happy about me then maybe you should wait” I say. “Josh is just a bet reserved. He’ll get used to it. All he wants is for me to be happy. And I am” she says kissing my lips.

“This was a lovely night Cris” she says. “I wanted to do something special” I say. She sits on her knees in front of me. “When is Nuno back?” she asks. “Late” I say. Why the hell is she thinking about him?

“Good” she says unbuttoning my shirt. “Why?” I ask as I feel her fingers touch my chest. “You said this was a do over” she whispers into my ear. “No shaking this time” she says shrugging of my shirt. “But this time, no one is pulling out any stiches” she says. “Or leaving” I say. “Or leaving” she says and I take her mouth and push her back onto the rug.

“Where is Lucy?” Nuno asks placing the pizza on the kitchen table. “On the phone with Katia and Rodrigo” I say. “Jezz she’s only gone a few minutes. No need to be grumpy. She’ll be back” he says. “Shut it. I’m not grumpy” I say taking a slice of pizza. “Who’s grumpy?” Lucy asks coming to stand beside Nuno. “Cris cos you were away from him” Nuno says. “Think it was more the fact you took so long getting the pizza” she says grabbing a slice. “I am not grumpy” I say. “We know. Just joking. I think it’s cute you want me around all the time” she says. “Well who wouldn’t?” I say and groan as her phone rings again. “When did I get so popular?” she says pulling her phone out of her pocket. “It’s Josh. “I’ll be back in a sec” she says leaving the room. “You’ve got it bad” he says.

“What’s wrong?” I ask Lucy and move to her as I notice how white she is. “That was Josh” she says. “And?” I ask. “Tina is getting released from rehab on Monday” she says. Monday. Wow that soon I think.

“I thought you’d be happy” I ask. “I am. Really I am. It’s just. I’ve waited so long for her to be coming home. Now she is” she says. “You don’t know how to feel” I say. “Ya. So much as happened since she’s been gone” she says. “You and me” I say and she nods. “You don’t have to tell her” I say. “I’m not going to hide you and me” she says. But if Tina freaks out about me.
