Side-Stage

The ghost in your ear

When the lights hit,and I heard the first chord from beside me,I couldn't help but nervously glance to my right. I told my psychologist I could feel him in the room,as if he was omnipresent. The stage was his and to be up here felt like a slap in the face. I heard the drums kick in from behind me and I froze, frantically turning behind me to see Ashton with some goofy smile on,obviously happy to be here. I glanced again to my left and saw him finally. I couldn't fight the grin as I screamed into the microphone, "Hello,Chicago!"

I looked over at him again and saw him roll his eyes with a soft smile, his green hair hitting the sides of his face as he swayed his head either way.

"Back at school, they all thought I was an out cast, car crash-"

I could feel Ashton's smile from behind me,and Calum next to me, not even present right now and one hundred percent feeling the music. But none of it mattered. I looked again to my left. He was dancing up and down behind me making a total fool of himself, and I couldn't help but giggle. I waited for his part to come up-giving him the grand introduction he deserved-throwing my hands up and to my left in a showgirl way, waiting for him to run to the microphone as he always forgot his part. Instead, Calum came in, "My teacher said, I was mentally disabled-" Calum gave me a look out of the corner of his eye that clearly told me to get my businuess together, while I glanced back at Ashton who was slowing down, concern evident in his eyes. I looked to my left, waiting for my saving grace to be there, only to see the green light from above honing on the floor.

"I-"

I looked at the crowd, everyone enjoying themselves oblivious to what was happening. I covered the microphone, while Calum tried hard to make it lol like the lead singer wasn't having a nervous break down as I slid across the floor to Ashton.

"Ashton-it's Michael,he's here. He's back."

He paused midway in the air now, before closing his eyes.

"Not here,Luke. Not right now. Please." He shook his head at him and turned away, forcing Luke to face the crowd.

He managed to get get through the show, just barely, and for once was actually glad they were only an opening act and didn't have a large set. As the bowed and walked off stage,Luke felt Ashton's hand on the back of his neck, rubbing it as he walked off.

"Ashton I swear-"

He shook his head, and walked away, before Luke glanced back and could see the familiar green hair.

"N-no. It's not real." He tried. He really did. Just like the psychologist said, but when he felt the familiar arm sling over his shoulder and snort, "what's his fucking problem?" Luke couldn't help but shrug and smile, throwing his arm over Michaels shoulder and walking back to the bus.
