This School Can't Be That Crazy. ...I Stand Corrected.

Smile

A soft knock cuts through the built up silence.

“Mel,” I hear my mother’s voice as she opens the door, “Lacey is here to see you.”

I groan and roll over in my bed getting twisted in the covers.

Lacey walks in and stands by the door as my mom closes it. She doesn’t say anything and I know she desperately wants to see I start.

“I know.”

She looks surprised at my choice of words. “Know what?”

I sit up and brush my tangled hair out of my face. “I fuck everything up. You don’t need to say it because I know. I’m a horrible person who doesn’t know what the fuck to do. Ever.”

Lacey’s expression turns upside down. “Mel, you are my best friend,” she moves over to my bed and takes a seat next to me, “and I will not let you think of yourself as a fuck up.”

I move to interrupt, but she continues putting her hands on my shoulders.

“You, my dear, are one of the smartest, funnest, I don’t care if that is not a word,” she states noticing my desire to correct her, “and prettiest girl I know, so don’t go whining and complaining about your previous mistakes because they do not matter anymore.”

“How can they not matter?” I mutter. “They just happened last fucking night.”

Lacey rolls her eyes. “Did you not hear what I just said to you?” she yells, ignoring my pout. “You can’t let that affect you! Actually you should see it as a good thing.”

My eyes widen. “A good thing? I’m listening to you, Lacey. I really am, but how the hell is last night a good thing?”

She laughs. “Kale finally knows how you feel about him!”

I snort. “I didn’t exactly tell him anything, Lacey. All I did was scream and overreact. I wouldn’t be surprised if he thought I was insane and never wanted to see me again.”

“No, you ran off and that told him that he was right, stupid.” She stands up pulling me with her. “Now all you have to do is march your cute little butt right over to his house and make up and make out, but first,” she adds on pushing me towards the bathroom, “you should really shower.”

I sigh. “I’m going to shower because god knows I need one, but I’m not going to promise the going over to Kale’s.” I reach the bathroom and start closing the door. “In fact, I can tell you right now that I am not going to. Sorry.” I end by closing the door and locking it. Hearing Lacey’s reassurance through the walls only encourages me more to stay home.

Forever.

“Lacey!” I shout into my dark basement. “Where the hell did you go? The movie isn’t over yet, stupid!”

Staying true to my word, I did not go to Kale’s after I got ready this morning. In fact, I did not leave my house at all and neither did Lacey, until now apparently.

“Lacey,” I whine. “Fuck you; you know I don’t like the dark.”

“She went to Trey’s.”

A voice behind me causes me to shriek and run towards the sliding door.

“Oh, no you don’t.”

A strong pair of arms wrap around my waist pulling me away from the moonlit escape.

“No!” I moan.

The arms place me on the chair leaving me to pout.

I cross my arms as Kale turns of the TV sending the room into a near pitch black. He comes back pulling the ottoman close and takes his own seat in front of me. I continue to stare not saying a word or moving a muscle.

“Speak,” he states.

I stay silent.

He raises an eyebrow. “Roll over.”

I glare. “Fuck you.”

Kale smiles. “All right, we’re getting somewhere.”

I pay no attention to his happiness and stick to my glaring.

His expression softens. “Come on Mel, I want to talk.”

“Well, I don’t.” I respond quietly, letting my guard down.

He grabs my hands and pulls them into my lap. “I was right,” he starts. “Last night, I was right.”

I scoff. “No shit Sherlock.”

“I’m trying to be serious right now.” He smiles.

My mouth twitches. “Too bad. I don’t like serious.”

“Except when it’s on me,” he smirks.

I roll my eyes, but stay silent.

He tightens his grip on my hands. “I just want us to…” He looks down and shakes his head.

I relax my body and let the seriousness in. “Us to what?”

Kale raises his head with intensity in his eyes that I have never seen in them before. Before I knew what was happening, Kale pulls me forward into him. Our lips touch and everything falls.

I wrap my arms around his neck and he holds me securely around the waist. Breaking the kiss, I lean back and wipe my fallen tears from his face.

“You know, that’s my job, right?” he runs his thumbs across my cheeks and places another kiss on my lips.

I nod my head, smiling. “Yeah, I do.”

What? IT HAPPENED!

Why yes, it did, which is why I don't care that this chapter is short (and slightly rushed) because it fucking happened and everybody and their son wanted it to and knew it was going to.
