Sequel: Until You Believe It

Until You Feel It

Chapter Seventy-seven

''Miss Rosell?'' a voice came from the door and I looked to see Doctor Collins.

''Come on in.'' I said. As he crossed the room, he looked around suspiciously.

''Your boyfriend isn't here?'' he more asked than said, as if he was waiting for Bill to jump out from under the bed. Apparently the nurses weren't the only ones who noticed that Bill never left.

''I told him that he needed to get out of this room.'' I said and the doctor smiled understandingly.

''Well I just need to check your stitches and then I'll be out of your hair.'' he said, moving to the side of my bed.

I'd just remembered that Eden wasn't here. I could turn onto my side myself, but staying there was a different story. I looked to Tom.

''Me?'' he asked, pointing to himself. Normally he wasn't even allowed to look when the doctor undid my gown.

''No the guy behind you.'' I said, rolling my eyes and he smirked.

He walked over to the side of my bed opposite the doctor and stood there rather awkwardly, not sure what to do.

''Give me your hands.'' I said and he held his hands out.

I turned onto my side and took Tom's hands to hold me in place. I felt the bottom half of my gown open as Doctor Collins undid the tie. As he lightly touched around the bandage I looked up at Tom, who's eyes were wandering terribly far off course.

I was allowed to wear underwear now –thankfully- but even though my bottom was covered, I couldn't help but notice the way Tom's eyes swept innocently over my back and then to the ceiling, acting like he hadn't done anything.

''Hey! First I'm your sister and now you're looking at my mostly naked backside?'' I asked, eyebrows raised and he smirked as he looked back down at me.

''Hey, I'm still just a man, and you're still a woman.'' he said matter-of-factly and I rolled my eyes.

''Look somewhere else before I tell your brother.'' I threatened and he huffed before averting his eyes to the TV.

''Everything looks great back here,'' Doctor Collins said and I heard Tom mutter something along the lines of ''you've got that right,'' and I let go of one of his hands to swat at his head, making him smirk.

''You'll be out of here sooner than you think, two days maybe?'' he said as he re-tied my gown and my heart leapt at the prospect of getting out of the hospital and sleeping in my own bed.

''Thanks Doctor Collins, for everything.'' I said as I moved gently back onto my back.

''You're welcome Amanda.'' he said, patting the back of my hand.

''Tell that boyfriend of yours to get some sleep before he falls down a flight of stairs.'' the doctor said lightly as he left and I smiled and nodded.

''He worries, that's why he doesn't sleep.'' Tom said, catching me slightly off guard.

''Huh?'' I asked, not exactly sure what he meant.

''Bill, he doesn't sleep because he worries about you, he told me so. Even though they all say you're going to be fine, he's still terrified of loosing you. The thought of going back home without you was killing him, but now that you said you'd come eventually, he feels a lot better about it.'' Tom explained, taking a seat in Bill's chair beside my bed.

''I feel bad about not being able to go, but he understands right? Why I can't leave?'' I asked and Tom nodded.

During the slightly awkward silence that followed, I mulled over the thought of what life would be like once Bill left. It was a vision I didn't like very much. I would eventually go to Germany, but the time between Bill's departure and my own would be terribly lonely.

The silence was finally broken by the girl with the lunch cart. She knocked softly on my door and smiled sweetly as she entered. This was a different girl than usual and I couldn't help but see the way she eyed Tom, apparently so did he. He turned to me and smirked as she inconspicuously over him to place the tray of food onto my table and I rolled my eyes.

''Thank you.'' I said, snatching her attention away from Tom and she smiled in return.

All of a sudden, a very upbeat dance song started to blare from Tom's pocket and he jumped at the noise. He grumbled as he fished for his phone in the caverns he called pockets.

''Eden.'' he muttered before pressing talk. She must have changed his ring tone.

''Hello?…he is?…ok, I'll see you in a bit…I love you too.'' Tom said and I smirked as he shut his phone. It was almost strange to hear Tom say that he loved her out loud. Even if it was true, the words sounded out of place in his mouth.

''Shut up.'' he said, narrowing his eyes at me and a giggle escaped my mouth.

''Bill's having fun at least, she said he seemed happy to be out of the hospital.'' Tom told me.

''I'm glad, he spends too much time here. It's not healthy to spend so much time in a hospital.'' I said and then chuckled a bit at the irony in my words.

''Tom?'' I asked, pulling Tom out of a trance that had been cast over him by the TV.

''Hm?'' he responded.

''What happened to Alex?'' I asked.

I didn't remember much after being stabbed. I assumed he would have been arrested, but I also assumed that the boys wouldn't have exactly been gentle with him when they got there.

''He was in the hospital for a bit, he broke his shoulder when Gustav punched him into the wall, but after they said that he would survive, they sent him to jail to wait for his hearing.'' Tom explained and I nodded.

''Gustav hit him that hard?'' I asked and Tom let out a short laugh.

''Yea, remind me not to fight with him.'' he said and this time we both laughed.
