Aimless Heart

Light

We walked for quite a while. My head began to throb again and I felt ill. I’m sure it was from not eating.

“How much farther Peter?”

“Not much, maybe 200 paces?”

“200? That’s not much?”

“No, it isn’t. Quit your belly aching and come on.”

As we continued to walk the musty smell seemed to be mixing with the smell of fresh air. I followed him and tried to count the paces but I quickly lost track. I wasn’t paying much attention and I heard Peter mumble something but I wasn’t sure what and I didn’t care enough to ask.

“This seems like more than 200 paces.”

“Maybe it is. I don’t waste my time counting paces all day.”

He was kind of hateful it seemed like. I heard him mumble something again and then I tripped up some stairs. Of course, I felt like an idiot.

“I told you to watch your step! Do you listen to nothing?”

“Sorry.”

Grumbling Peter then said, “Don’t be. Just listen to me ok?”

“Aye.”

We walked up several stairs and finally we came to a door. The musty smell was almost gone but it still lingered. Peter opened the door and suddenly my head was hurting more than it had and my eyes were throbbing as well. I was finally out of the tunnel.
