Jonathan's Descent

She’s one of the smart ones at school.
I know; I’ve shared classes with her
and I still do share classes with her.
But she’s one of the smart ones that
only knows what’s being taught if
she thinks it’s interesting.
You can tell she’s enthusiastic because
she manages to get a near-perfect mark
during the exam straight after or
she hands in a perfect essay on it.
Otherwise she just scrapes up marks
that are good enough to pass and
good enough not to draw attention
but otherwise mediocre.
