A Dark Alley and a Bad Idea
Sixteen
I didn’t know how I was going to get to Pittsburgh but I was determined. I had to be there for them at least once.
“What did you tell them?”
“That we were going to check out a band and spend the night at a friends house.”
“What did they say?” Andy asked as I got into his car.
“To have fun and enjoy my birthday.”
“Why didn’t you just tell them the truth?”
I sighed staring out the window, “it’s too late for that now”
The eighth hour drive was agonizing. What if I was too late? What if they were gone by the time I got there?
“I’m sure they’ll wait for you before finalizing the paperwork.” Andy said trying to be encouraging.
I nodded.
I ran out the car as soon as we had arrived at the hospital.
