To Caress My Day
Chapter 238: About To Be Someone!
Twigs gave herself a terse moment to sit noiselessly with her eyes shut and her head leaned back against her bed’s headboard. She painstakingly replayed the last half an hour over in her mind, detailing as much of Seth as she could from their video call before he had to go to work and leave her alone again.
God, did she miss her man.
It sucked because thinking of him did two things to her. It set alight a glow in her heart that could no longer brighten the far reaches within her body anymore. But at the same time it prompted her with a tearing despair of yearning for him all over again. It was like a double-edged sword. Damned if she did and damned if she didn’t.
Not wanting to exacerbate the anguish already splintering through her system, Twigs opted it would be best for her well-being to get to bed sooner rather than later. Only then will the pain recede. Shutting her laptop and setting it on the pillow next to her that used to cushion Seth’s head when he slept over, she began to slump down into her warm comforters when her phone on the bedside table went off.
“What? Who the hell is calling me at this hour?” Twigs lamented miserably before reaching out for the noisy device and checking the Caller ID. It was Simone. Sitting herself up again, Twigs answered the call without a moment’s hesitation. “Hello?”
“Hey, Twiggy-Baby! I got some stoke news for you that you’re gonna wanna hear!” Simone squealed from her end with such teeming excitement it even brought a smile to her former roommate’s face.
“Oh yeah?” Twigs asked, tilting her head against the phone to hear her more clearly. “And what kind of news would that be? Are you making a trip back to London to come visit your UK fams who love and miss you oh so much?”
“Not exactly.” Simone replied, pouting on her end of the phone as she got ready for another new day in her bizarre multicolored bathroom.
“Oh…well then, what is it? Don’t keep me waiting forever now.” Twigs spurred her impatiently, a giggle following not too far behind.
“Our manager is planning to present GRL to the PUBLIC in the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles on March 12th!” Simone screeched with an energetic spike of excitement, ditching her blush brush on the bathroom counter to wave her hands around sporadically as she jumped in place.
Amazing! First Neon Jungle tagging along on some HUGE artist’s tour and now Simone being publicly introduced to the whole world!
Engulfed with nothing but elation for her former roommate, Twigs slapped a hand over her mouth to muzzle her own screech of joy. Simone must have heard it cause she joined in too. “Are you serious?!”
“Never been more serious in my life, girl!” Simone squealed, presently dancing in circles in her bathroom when she should be getting ready to go to the studios. “Oh lord, Jesus is blessing me!”
“He sure is.” Twigs concurred, her mind trying to depict such a major event taking place in person. “What Chateau was it again?”
“The Chateau Marmont.” Simone repeated as she plucked her blush brush up again and tapped it into a lovely deep berry powder blush to apply to her cheeks.
“The Chateau Marmont.” Twigs echoed with a nod. She pondered on what this Chateau place looked like. “Sounds like a super posh place to make an announcement. Have you ever been there before or even seen it?”
“Honey, that doesn’t sound like a place I could even afford to look at, much less step into.” Simone snorted, rolling her eyes as she set her phone down on the counter to put Twigs on speaker phone so she could apply her makeup with both hands. Reaching for a glossy compact, Simone opened it to unveil a beautiful shimmery bronze highlighter begging to be applied to her cheekbones to make them shine! “But I’ll admit my curiosity got the best of me too, so I looked it up on my phone…”
“And, what did you see?” Twigs pressed, interested to know. “I know it’s nothing like our Buckingham Palace.”
Pausing from applying her highlighter down the bridge of her nose so she could reply first, Simone told her. “You’re dead right on that one, Twigs. The internet described it as a big ass stark white French Chateau.”
“Hmm.” Twigs sounded with a nod, mentally reminding herself to look the place up in the morning if she could spare the time to do so, or even remember to.
“Apparently it’s an old legendary hotel too.” Simone added in as she lightly dusted the bronze gold shimmer over her nose and then leaned back to turn her head left and right so the light would bounce off it and shimmer. “It’s like 80 years old or something like that.”
Moving on from the favored Chateau Marmont, Twigs backtracked and asked her a different question. “So…how do you feel about all this? Like really. I already know you’re super excited.”
Simone delayed in responding while applying the lash glue to the band of her false lashes. She wanted to answer as honestly as possible before answering. “Well…I have to admit I am a tiny bit nervous about the world knowing about basic little Simone from cold old London.”
“That’s perfectly natural. Us ladies have always been rather small even in our own backyards. It’s normal to feel a bit scared.” Twigs reassured her, nodding along to her own words. It was nerve-wracking for herself when she first started her own music career, but it was truly a life-changing decision she passionately wanted to pursue for as long as she could.
“I know. But the biggest emotion coming from me is excitement that I’ll finally FINALLY be able to be SEEN!” Simone raved with warmth before urging herself to simmer down so she could apply her falsies on without any mistakes. “You know? I’m about to be someone, Tahliah!”
To be someone.
Funny how that was the one thing Twigs didn’t like about having a career in music. She loved making the beats, writing the lyrics, and coming up with a story whether it be musically or through the filming aspect of her videos. But the fame, the attention one gets for making such art that captivates so many eyes…that was the part that didn’t settle well with her stomach. It was the same reason coming out to the public as Seth’s girlfriend was too hard of a pill to swallow. The legions of judgment, and hate that came hand in hand with being renowned was dangerous. Lives had been snuffed out under the scrutiny of such harsh treatments from being under the public eyes.
And now, Simone and Neon Jungle were about to enter that kind of arena without her, and Twigs could only hope they are absolved from the savagery of the world though it wasn’t very practical.
“No, Simone, you got it all wrong! You have always been someone. Right from the start when you were born.” Twigs remedied her former roommate. “And if for whatever reason you don’t make it in that world of stardom and fame out there in California, then you’ll be THE best those morons missed out on, you hear me?”
Simone lowered her hands to her rainbow-tiled counter with a tender smile on her face. This is what she loved about her friends. They were insanely supportive of every move she made big or small, from London to Los Angeles. It didn’t matter what or whom she was chasing, they always had her back and cheered her on even when it seemed the whole world was against her reaching her goals. “Aww, thank you, Twiggy-Baby. You ladies always know what to say to bring a bad bitch up again. But enough about little old me, what about you? What have you been up to since we last spoke?”
Twigs had to smother back the news of her mother’s Cancer from hurling from her lips. Everything was clearly going well in Simone’s life, Neon Jungle’s lives, and even Seth’s. Her mother’s Cancer, her struggle to pay the bills and put food in her stomach, and her stifling loneliness seemed like pouring ice water pouring down their bare backs. Twigs didn’t want to be that kind of person to rain on everyone’s parade by recounting her woes to them. Sure, their lives were already changing in dramatic ways, but none of it was anything bad. And to her that still didn’t mean she had to be the bearer of bad news and share all of her troubles! “Oh you know, a little this and that. If you have time I’ll let you in on some things, but not all of it is worth talking over. Life is just the same old boring life, you know?”
