Neither energy nor matter can be created nor destroyed.

Much like a cup beneath a tap, everything builds, beginning with nothing and rising at a steady pace. When the cup is full, it must be removed, or it will flow over, and water will be lost.

If one wishes to add more water, he must first empty the cup.

That is the one unarguable law of the universe.

Only when the cup is empty, its contents drained, can it be refilled, each new drop of water that fills it different from the last, but each contributing to a common cause.

Unlike a cup beneath a tap, the universe is not constrained by finite borders, nor does the flow of information cease. In order to empty this unimaginably complicated cup of water, a hole must be made in its surface.

This time, that hole is cut in the form of an organism created in the shadows of a distant sun.

That is, after all, the natural order of things.
