Chapter 16: Maybe It Was The Secret, and You Couldn't Keep It
(Third person): Ryder goes home from staying late at work, grading all his kids papers. When he arrives at his house he sees that the kids are gone and Rikki is at Ryder's parent's house. He sees Ezra's old high school, "high" and drunk buddies. And he sees his husband drinking a Smirnoff and he rolls his eyes at them
"Ezra. What the bloody hell are you doing?" Ryder asks his husband in an annoyed tone
"Having a little fun unlike you do babe" Ezra slurs and hugs Ryder and Ryder tries not to hurl
"Love, you reek of alcohol. Please don't hug me and leave me alone for the night. I'm tuckered out" Ryder tells his drunken spouse and pushes him off
"You don't tell me what to do you shit! I am the man of this house and you will obey it!" Ezra snaps at Ryder grabbing Ryder's wrists tight enough to leave a bruise.
"OW! Ezra! Your hurting me! Stop it!" Ryder seethes and Ezra punches him in the face.
"There you go again. Telling me what to do. Just what I said not to do. Tsk tsk tsk. You deserve more than a punch" Ezra hisses
"Get out of my house DeMarco" Ryder snaps and pushes Ezra and walks into the house going to his and Ezra's room as Ezra follows him. He walks into their room and starts packing Ezra's stuff
"Your house? I live here too!" Ezra yells
"But who bought it and helped buy it? Me and MY parents. And who makes breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the kids? Me. Who makes sure the kids are healthy and the baby is ok? Me! Now get out of my house!" Ryder yells and he sees the kids in the hallway. They had heard everything
"Fine. Fuck you. Fuck this family. I don't need you or our kids." Ezra snaps and grabs the bag Ryder packed him and storms out of the house.
"Is this the first time he's done this Pops?" Callisto asks Ryder
"It's sad to say kids. But no. This isn't the first time. Every time he's gotten drunk for as long as we've been together he's been like this" Ryder says in shame
"Why didn't you leave him?! He's abusive!" Calypso yells
"Not always! He isn't when he's sober. And he rarely drinks anymore. And I usually stay away from him when he does drink. But this time caught me in surprise" Ryder tells them in a worried tone
"Still. Drunk or not he's hurt you Pops" Auggie says
"I didn't wanna lose you guys either. And I love him. And he isn't always like this drunk. But for some reason around his old friends from high school he is. Around them, drunk he's mean and just plain awful. And it's been what? uhh about 15 years plus since then. But they came by today and that's why. He won't come back for awhile. I know him too well. So it'll be just us for awhile. So Calypso, Carsyn, Flynn, and Callisto you will have to help with Rikki and other things, Auggie and Anatome, you will help with other things" Ryder tells us. I didn't know dad-Ezra was like that when he was drunk.... Sheesh. I feel bad for pops....
