The Uninvited Guests

Three

2:12 AM. I shake the sleep from my eyes and head as I sit up in bed. I scramble over and flip on my lamp. It chases away the dark.
IT'S COMING.
LIGHT CAN STALL IT.
REMEMBER.

The words flash into my mind and I break into a cold sweat. What the hell could that mean? What is IT? I couldn't remember what it was. Was it actually... real? No, it had to be a dream. Right? I was so sure it was real... no. No, it couldn't be.
A shard of wood through my arm. Blood.
Darkness, swallowing skyscrapers in the distance.
Darkness, swallowing me.

Okay, it's real. No more of this messing around, I need to do something. But what can I possibly do? I can't go to the police, they'd call me crazy! And, I can't tell anyone for the same reason. Well, it finds me here. So how do I prevent that? I grab my hoodie, wallet, and phone. I'm going for a long walk. On the way out, my flashlight catches my eye. I flip it on, and the solid LED beam comforts me. I shut the door quietly behind me, and set out into the city.

Okay, this one's a bit short, but it's the last of the chapters before the action gets going, I promise. :)
