Speak to Me

Chapter Fourteen

Friday rolled around quicker than I had hoped and I was beginning to get nervous by the minute. I'm not good with plane rides, they scare me to death and I'm not good with meeting parents. Why? because it scares me to death. I know Kellin and I are both grown men, but his mother's approval still means a lot to me. The four of us were currently sitting in the airport, paitently waiting for our flight to be called. Well, they were waiting paitently, me on the other hand, I was close to shaking my limbs off. No one knew about my fear of flying except for Mike. Earlier this morning, Mike asked if I was okay with being on the plane and I lied to him. I told him I was completely fine, but at the time I thought I would be. But now here I am, shaking like a kid who's afraid of horror movies. I was snapped out of my train of thought when Kellin placed his hand on my shoulder, causing me to flinch a bit.

"Are you okay?" He asked me, eyeing me curiously. I nod, hoping he would just shrug it off. Which he thankfully did. "Oh okay, well I'm heading to the little cafe over there and I wanted to know if you wanted something to eat or drink?" He asked me, standing up from his seat.

"Can I get a coffee please? You know how I like it." I told him, smiling when he nodded and walked off with Alysha by his side. I let out a big sigh, hoping the caffeine will control my nerves.

"So when are you planning on telling him you're afraid of flying?" Mike asked me once Kellin and Alysha were a good distance away from us.

"Never thought it would come up. I probably don't plan on it either, I don't need him worrying about me when he's worrying about his mom. I'll be fine, I'll just try to sleep through it." I told him, making up different plans for the flight.

"He's going to find out soon Vic, just tell the kid." He continued on, I knew exactly why too. See when I get into these situations, I get panic attacks. I have my pills to control them, but that would cause confusion for Kellin. Thankfully he wasn't paying attention when I had to explain to the employee at bag check why I had pills with me.

"You're right. I don't want to have an episode and have him wonder why or think something worse than what it might seem." I told him. A few seconds later, Alysha and Kellin rejoined us, handing us our beverages before leaving us to our own conversations. Before I could stop it, my leg starting shaking along with Kellin, considering he was sitting there.

"Vic are you okay? You're shaking again." He laughed, enjoying the sudden movement.

"I'm sorry, I'm a bit nervous." I told him, finally getting my leg to stop shaking.

"About?" He asked, his eyes gazing directly into mine. I let out a long sigh, trying to calm my nerves before I started talking.

"Getting on the plane. I don't like flying, it scares me." I told him, feeling a bit childish. Everyone has their own fears though right?

"You could've told me that, you didn't have to come." He told me, playing with my hair.

"Well I want to meet your mom and be there to help you with things, so I don't mind. I just thought I'd tell you. Well more like Mike made me tell you. I didn't want you worrying about me." I told him truthfully. He smiled at my words, pulling me into a hug.

"You're the best you know that? You don't have to suffer, but you're doing it anyways and although I want to kill you for it, I really do appreciate it." He whispered, his lips meeting mine for a mere second. I went to say something else but I was stopped by a voice over the intercom.

"All passengers boarding Flight 125 to Orlando, Florida please get ready to board the plane. Thank you." The lady said over the speaker. I let out a mental groan, hoping that I could get through this flight without having a panic attack. The four of us stood up from our seats and headed to gate 3 with a bunch of other strangers.
Kellin held my hand as we entered the plane, leading Mike, Alysha and I to our seats. I sat down silently, watching everyone gather their belongings, watching people rush to their seats, complaining how they have a long ride ahead of them. I sighed, laying my head against the window as I stared outside. I seemed to let my mind drift off for awhile, snapping back into reality by the flight attendant over the speaker.

"Good morning everyone! We are about to take off so please stay in your seat until we are in the air. Thank you." She said a bit too happy. How can anyone be happy with this job? I mean flying all day? In the air all day? That must be so nerve wrecking. I let my thoughts get the best of me, my mind closing, as well as my throat. I began to feel light headed but tried to remain cool. I began doing my regular breathing exercises, 4 seconds in and 7 seconds out.

"Vic, are you okay?" Kellin asked me, taking sight of my shaken demeanor. I try to nod, not wanting to worry him but I couldn't. I needed my pills. I shook my head, frowning at myself for being so weak.

"Where are your pills?" He asked quickly, grabbing my bag and searching in it before I could even answer him. He made a noise of victory when he found it, calling the flight attendant over to us.

"Hi, can I get a bottle of water please? Please be quick, my boyfriend is having a bit of dry throat right now." He asked politely, earning a nod before she rushed off. At this point, Mike and Alysha were looking behind at us, not saying anything.

"Okay Vic, breathe in and out slowly." Kellin guided me, which I did. He held my hand, squeezing it gently in attempt to calm me down. Surprisingly, no one was paying attention to us which I was thankful for. I didn't need a bunch of strangers looking at me.

"Here you go sir." The flight attendant said,
handing me a bottle of water before walking away. Kellin thanked the lady, handing me the bottle along with the pills. The three of them watching me intently as I swallowed down my reliever. I waited a few minutes, my nerves slowly calming down. Kellin was still holding my hand tightly, causing me to smile when he brought it up to his lips and kissed it.

"Are you okay?" He asked me softly, his voice holding a great amount of concern.

"Yeah." I breathed out. "Yeah I'm okay. Thank you Kells." I smiled at him, taking a chance to look at my brother who gave me a slight nod, before turning back in his seat. I knew what that nod meant, it meant that he respected Kellin even more now. Why? Because ever since we were little, Mike was the only one who could be able to get me out of a panic attack. Now he knows things will be okay, knowing Kellin can help me as well.

"I think I'm going to take a nap, okay?" I tell Kellin, earning a nod in response.

"Yeah me too, I hate being up this early." He joked, laying his head on my shoulder. I didn't complain as I followed his actions, placing my head against the window. It wasn't long til I felt myself drifting to sleep, hoping that this flight will be over when I wake up.

-- 3 1/2 hours later --

"Vic, baby get up." I feel Kellin nudge me, but I make no attempt to move. He starts nudging me harder, alerting me that I should probably get up now instead of continuing to fight against him.

"I'm up, I'm up." I tell him, rubbing my eyes before they adjust to my surroundings.

"We have 30 minutes left, just want you to be up so we don't have to rush to get our things together. You know?" He yawned, his cute little nose crinkling. I nodded, cringing at the popping nose of my bones when I stretched.

The 30 minutes went by quickly and before I knew it, I was off of the plane and into a cab heading to Kellin's house. I felt my heart pounding as well as Mike's. This was a big thing for the both of us, me meeting my boyfriend's mother who might be facing death, and Mike meeting his best friend who he thought was dead. As much as I tried, I couldn't calm my nerves. I've never met anyone's parents in this formal matter, what if I screwed up? What if she feels like I'm not good enough for her son?

"Vic calm down, you're going to give yourself another panic attack." Kellin warned me, but I couldn't.

"What if your mom doesn't like me?" I ask nervously.

"Well then that's her problem. I like you." He stated matter of factly. I knew he didn't mean it in a rude way, but it is his choice who he dates.

"Vic I'm pretty sure she'll like you. You're friendly, caring and funny. You're genuinly a guy that people want to be around. Trust me." Alysha reassured me, Kellin and Mike nodding in agreement. I sighed, letting her words sink in to calm my nerves. It wasn't long til we pulled up in front of a fairly average sized house. The bright white exterior almost blinding my eyes. As Kellin payed for the taxi, I got out and helped retrieve the luggage from the trunk. Once everything was out, I couldn't help but take notice of my surroundings. The weather wasn't new, I was used to the heat. The streets were clean and it overall seemed like a nice neighborhood.

"Okay guys, let's go." He said, going to grab his suitcase but I beat him to it. Once I reassured him that I would carry it, he led us up the stairs and into the house.

"Tay!" He called out for his sister, frowning when there was no response. He told us to stay here while he checked the house, coming back with unfortunate news.

"So they aren't here. They should be back later though so why don't I get you guys settled in huh?" He smiled, motioning us to follow him upstairs.

"Are you sure it will be okay if we stay here? I mean we don't want to seem like a bother Kellin." Mike said as we walked up the flight of stairs.

"Yeah it's fine. When my mom and I moved here, this was the only house available so although it was the two of us, there were five rooms. There are three extra rooms, well two now since Tay took one of them." He explained. He stopped in front of a room that looked fairly large, one big bed with the sheets fully clean and folded.

"Okay so Mike and Alysha, this is your room. There's a bathroom just through that door and there's another one down the hall. Vic and I will be staying in my room which is right across from you guys. So yeah, go unpack and I'l give you guys a tour of everything else." He said dismissively, leading me to our room next. When we walked in, I took the time to look around. He had a few posters on his royal blue wall, which matched his royal blue bed sheets and his black carpet.

"So this used to be your bedroom huh? Sad that I couldn't see what teenage Kellin used to do by himself, with the doors locked, with only the walls watching." I teased, grabbing his waist and pulling him towards me.

"It's sad that you would've been bored out of your mind because I was a saint." He muttered. I just laughed it off, half of me believing him.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. Let's unpack." I told him, bopping his nose. He sent a glare with me but started unpacking anyways.

After about an hour or so, the four of us headed downstairs to eat the pizza Kellin had kindly ordered for us. We were all sitting in the living room watching tv and eating when a loud shriek filled our ears.

"Kellin!" A girl, whom I assumed was Tay screamed. Our head shot up the brunette who immediately ran into Kellin's arms. They had their little rejoicing moment before he introduced her to the rest of us, well reintroduced, I should say. She walked up to me first, engulfing me in a tight hug.

"Hi Vic, it's good to see you again." She said softly.

"It's good to see you too Kid." I said ruffling her hair. She pushed me away with a glare and a small laugh moving on to Mike next. I swear if it wasn't for Kellin, they would've never let go of each other.

"I missed you so much, you have no idea. I can't believe you're alive, oh my god." Mike told her, his voice cracking just a little.

"I'm sorry, I missed you too." Tay cried, letting go of Mike so she could wipe her tears. She cleared her throat, glancing behind Mike to look at Alysha.

"And this must be the famous Alysha. Mike has told me a lot about you, it's nice to meet you." Tay told her, pulling Alysha into a hug. "Sorry I'm a hugger." She apologized.

"It's okay." Alysha laughed. "It's nice to meet you too."

"Sorry to break up this love fest but, where's mom?" Kellin asked Tay. Her face went from happy to sad in a mere second.

"I took her to the doctor, I have to go get her in a few hours." Tay stated sadly.

"How bad is she?" Kellin asked.

"Kellin, I-" She tried to speak, but he cut her off.

"Tay, how bad is she." Kellin spoke with a tone that even scared me.

"They say she has 2 months left." She said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Oh my god."
