With Eyes Like the Moon & the Stars

Preface

In Lucia the sun shines twenty four hours a day every single day of the year. The only time it dims in the slightest bit is when clouds move into the sky and shower us with warm rain, and the only time light isn't pouring through the windows of every building and every house is when we pull closed our blinds for the night hours and allow ourselves a bit of darkness so we may sleep. Growing up in Lucia, never did I feel cold air on my skin nor did I witness the fall of snow upon the earth, for our weather is never anything but hot and sunny. In Lucia when I looked to the sky I saw nothing but a sun and perhaps some clouds, for the sun's blinding light outshines the moon and the stars. In Lucia, I was taught to fear anything different than what I know, taught that the people on the other side, the people of Adra, were nothing but villainous subhuman creatures, creatures that must be disposed of before they begin to threaten our way of life. One day I realized that was nothing but a terrible lie. What happened to bring me to this realization?

I met a boy who taught me it's rather childish to be afraid of the dark.
