Unstable

I'd been to Janna's house a thousand times, but this was different. This was her taking a dangerous step to keep me safe. I knew it scared her, what could possibly happen, but I didn't have a choice. Somehow I knew that Veronica had been to my house. I knew she had been that shadow in the window, but I couldn't prove it.

Because that was before anything happened, so perhaps I'd imagined it.

Except now I know I hadn't.

“She's dangerous,” Colin said, as he handed me a glass of water. He took a seat at the dining room table and frowned. “Are you sure you're safe here?”

“I'm sure,” I answered, leaning back in my chair. “She doesn't know Janna.”

“Not like she knows you,” Colin remarked. “Sorry, bad joke.”

I agreed, but smiled anyway.

“That was a horrible joke,” Janna said as she entered. “This is a serious situation. Veronica is unstable. Eli needs to be where she can't get him.”

I looked at them, my mind reeling. Then I spoke.

“I want to see her.”
