Chapter 35
The office was quiet as I stepped inside. Turning on the lights made me feel better. The receptionist desk was scattered with papers and folders—Janna must have been in a hurry to leave yesterday. I started to pick up the folders, then stopped when my eyes landed on the recent one.
Veronica's name was written in black ink on the tab.
I didn't understand. Veronica wasn't my patient anymore. I'd expressly told her that I could not treat her, and since I hadn't seen her on the list for a few weeks, I'd thought she'd taken my suggestion and transferred.
But then I realized that I'd never received a call from any other psychiatrist in regards to Veronica and her folder.
So she'd just stopped coming, but was not seeking any other help.
As I organized the folders, my cell phone vibrated from my pocket. I slid my finger across the screen to unlock it, then read the text message.
Two words that made me shiver.
She knows.
