I Can Barely Feel Anything Real

ten

I couldn't handle it anymore.

My best friend for six years had just died. I mean, how are you supposed to handle that?

We were on the road, passing through some random city at two in the morning. I knew what I wanted, and I knew how to get it.

I grabbed my wallet and headed for the front of the bus, still in tears.

"Stop the bus here, please. I'll only be half an hour." I tried to compose myself long enough to say, but after one look at my face the driver stopped the bus. I took off out of the bus towards the closest park.

KYLE'S POINT OF VIEW

I heard the crying and then felt the bus stop. And naturally, I wondered why. I got out of my bunk and heard the bus door slam shut. I went into the front area.

"Hey, why did you stop the bus?" I asked groggily, not bothering to rub the sleep out of my eyes.

"Alexa wanted off. She looked terrible, and was in hysterics." That woke me up. I rushed to the back and shook Caleb awake.

"Alexa just left the bus crying like crazy." I said when he opened his eyes. He got up and didn't question me. We both had the same thought in our heads.

We walked off the bus to see a tall, skinny figure running ahead of us, and a block away. She turned into a park and Caleb and I set off running after her.

ALEXA'S POINT OF VIEW

I saw two teenagers sitting on a bench smoking a joint.

"Do you have any more of that?" They nodded. I took it and held out the first two bills that I touched, and ran off to a secluded corner.

I inhaled long and deep.

This is what I needed.

KYLE'S POINT OF VIEW

We rounded the corner into the park, and saw her sitting in a corner by a street lamp.

"Fucking piece of shit..." I heard Caleb mutter, and knew exactly how he felt.

"Alexa!" I called, and she looked up. Her eyes were glassy and red.

"Kyle? C-Caleb?" She sounded scared. We walked the short distance over to her, Caleb grudgingly. I could see the makeup smears and tear streaks on her face. I sat beside her, but didn't touch her. Caleb took what was left form her hand and threw it on the ground, smooshing it with his shoe.

"What the hell Alexa?" Caleb yelled at her, making more tears stream silently down her face.

"Stefan's gone..." She choked out quietly, which made Caleb seem even more infuriated. He addressed me.

"What town are we in?" He asked angrily.

"Uh... some city in New Jersey?" I answered slowly and unsurely.

"I'll find the closest airport in the morning. Let's get her back to the fucking bus and in the shower, she smells horrible." I nodded and put my arm around her waist, and led Alexa back to the bus.

ALEXA'S POINT OF VIEW

It was cold where I was sitting on a corner street in some random town in Texas. It was also dark and raining.

Nobody would take me. Stefan would have, but he can't exactly, now that he was dead. Caleb kicked me off the tour, and even after it finished, none of them would talk to me.

My parents basically disowned me once I got back. Apparantly, I was a let down to the entire family.

The thing I had been afraid of becoming most, was the story of my life.

Alone.
