Midnight

What a feeling.

“This is what I imagine death feels like.” Harry groaned as Londyn sat a glass of water on the nightstand. She had stayed the night to look after him and after heading home to shower earlier, she was back again. Honestly, she just didn't like him like this. She needed Harry back. The happy, go lucky guy she had grown fond of.

“Something tells me you aren't dying.”

He groaned as his head hit the pillow.

“However, your eye looks horrible now.”

What was once just a slight bruise was now full on purple almost black.

“Great, that's attractive.”

She grinned, “I think being cute is the least of your worries right now.”

He glared at her and she patted his stomach before moving from where she sat on the bed.

“You need to eat something.”

“You don't eat when you are dying, Londyn.” He stated and she rolled her eyes, “You’re so dramatic. How about I just make you some toast?”

“Whatever.” He grumbled out as he watched her leave. He honestly couldn't believe she stayed. Especially after everything he said last night. He would definitely blame the meds if she brought it up but he knew the truth of it was, it was stuff he should have said a while ago.

He breathed in and immediately winced from the pain it caused. His ribs were more sore than he imagined. He forced himself from the bed, complaining the whole way to the bathroom. Once his eyes came in contact with the mirror he groaned at the sight. She wasn't lying when she said it looked bad. He lightly touched the bruise in order to examine it. This definitely wouldn't go away any time soon.

“You ok?”

Harry turned around to see Londyn close by and he shrugged, “Just checking on the damage.”

“If only you knew how to be careful.”

“If only…” he responded, a smirk hitting his lips.

“Not everyone can be like me.” Londyn stated, sitting back on the bed.

Harry laughed, “Oh yeah. Of course.”

She grinned as he slowly climbed back on the bed.

“Eat.”

He glared at her all the while grabbing up a piece of toast.

“Bossy.” he grumbled as he forced himself to take a bite.

She smiled and leaned against the headboard.

“You know, you don't have to stay with me.” He said with mouthful of toast. He realized after the first bite that he was in fact hungry.

“Are you trying to get rid of me?”

“You know I'm not. I just don't want you to feel obligated to.”

“I don't.” She replied with a grin.

“Ok. Be bored with me then.” He teased as he sat the now empty plate on the nightstand.

“Yeah well what's new?”

“Ok now you know that's a lie. We always have fun. I'm a fun guy. I mean look at this eye!”

Londyn couldn't help but laugh and a smile lined Harry’s face.

“I guess so.”

He nodded before leaning into her and kissing her forehead, “Thanks for the toast.”

“You're welcome.” She whispered out as his lips seemed to cause her skin to tingle.

“You have me up before ten and I don't like it.”

“Uh you were already up when I got back.”

“Yeah but I could have went back to sleep.”

“Oh my bad!” She said throwing her hands up defensively and he chuckled as he laid back on his pillow.

“I forgive you.”

“You have to. No one else is taking care of you.”

“Ah I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to find someone.” He joked, placing his hands behind his head.

“Ok we'll have fun with that.” She stated, moving from the bed and he swiftly grabbed her arm causing him to yelp in pain.

“Ouch, ok. Wrong thing to do.” He winced as he removed his arm from her. She immediately sat back down, concern now covering her face.

“Just super sore.” He mumbled trying not to think of the pain shooting up his arm.

“Do you want some of your medication?”

“No, it's fine.” He stated his eyes now meeting hers. She moved closer to him, relaxing beside him and without much thought he brought his hand to her cheek.

“Thank you. For everything.” He whispered out and she spoke softly, “We’re friends Harry. This is what friends do.”

“Well you forget my relationships are never what they should be.”

“True..”

“Londyn, I really just need to tell you something…” He stated turning his eyes to the ceiling.

“What?”

“The real reason why I left.”

Londyn didn't dare speak, she was even scared to breathe at this point.

“I left because, because after we kissed, I knew, that nothing would be the same if I stayed.”

“I know…”

“No. Let me finish.” He started as he cut her off and she shut up quickly.

“I knew that what I felt for you would turn our awesome friendship into something more. then I would just screw up every lovely part of what we have because that's what I do and I refuse to lose you. You're the best thing that's happened to me in a long time and as badly as I want to kiss you sometimes and hold your hand, and tell every guy that looks at you to back away, I know I will ruin it. I always do. So don't think it had anything to do with you. You're perfect. I'm just sorry I'm not.” He got out not daring to look at the girl, he already felt like he sounded pathetic but she deserved him to be honest for once.

“Harry, I am not perfect in the least bit, and you are definitely in no way as bad as you claim to be or what everyone has made you believe. I...I've tried really hard to not feel anything for you. To just be your friend and to block out how you make me feel when you smile at me and tell me things that you don't tell anyone else. It's been really hard on me and just like you, I don't want to lose what we have because I value our relationship but I don't know how I can stay sane doing this, because I think I can and that I'll be ok, and then stupid things like you taking a picture with another girl makes me feel some sort of way and I am not that type of girl who gets jealous and what not. And then I'm like, well what if he started dating someone then what?” Londyn stated finishing with a sigh, “it's exhausting because I am acting in ways I never do..” Londyn couldn't believe she had just admitted all this but she had to admit, it felt like a weight lifted off her shoulders. She immediately felt like she could breathe easier.

Harry moved his head to the side, his eyes watching her as she stared at her hands. Although he didn't want to tell her how happy all of that made him simply because she hated the way she was feeling. It did however fill him with hope he didn't know he was searching for.

“I know it is, and I'm sorry. I, I hate how I have so much to say and I just can't seem to get it to come out right.”

“It's ok.” She whispered, a grin hitting her lips as she finally looked at him.

“No it's really not.” He stated with a sigh, frustrated at himself really.

“Harry…”

His eyes met hers and she continued, “Do you have feelings for me?”

“Yes. I always have.”

She nodded and he simply stared at her waiting for her next words.

“So you have feelings for me and I have feelings for you…”

“...yeah…”

“You need to get over yourself.” She stated laying down with a sigh.

“What?”

“Get over yourself. Stop overthinking and just do it.”

“Do what?” He asked propping himself up in his elbows.

“Ask me on a date, Harry.”

He stared down at her, “Huh?”

“I know you're near death and all but surely you can understand what I said.”

“Who are you?”

She grinned, “I'm just over it all. Just who cares? I'm sick of caring!”

“Did you take my meds?” He asked with a smirk and she rolled her eyes as he moved to hover over her.

“I'm not asking you on a date, Londyn.”

“Why not?”

“Because, if I ask you anything it will be me asking you to be my girlfriend. A date is for two people who are trying to figure out if they like each other. I know I like you.”

“Good point.”

Harry chuckled, his eyes locking with hers, the next sentence that came out seemed to even take him off guard, especially after his emotional spill seconds ago.

“Lon, be my girlfriend.”

“I thought you didn't want that?” She whispered, staring into his green eyes which seemed more intense than normal.

“I can change my mind can't I?” He got out, for some reason he wanted to try with her. Even if it ended like he assumed it would.

“I guess so. Ok, I'll be your girlfriend.”

He smiled at her before pressing his lips to hers.

“Who knew you could have the worst day ever and then the next day have the best? Just doesn't seem right.”

She rolled her eyes with a grin as he returned to his side of the bed. She still had a hard time believing this was really happening or that it would go how she imagined. Guess only time would tell.

He linked his hand with hers as she laid her head against his arm. Harry was overwhelmingly happy even though he was in pain at the moment. He would make this work. He would do it right this time. For her.

The next two days were spent in similar fashion and by Friday he felt like his normal self. Well his normal self with a black eye.

“I'm surprised you came out in public.” Louis joked as Harry and Londyn sat at a table with the guys and Sophia.

“Well I can't hide forever!”

Londyn chuckled as she watched Niall stack up the pepper and salt shakers. She hadn't told anyone about her and Harry. Not even Sophia because she knew very well Liam would know in seconds and then the whole group. A secret gets around in 30 seconds around this group. Plus she knew Harry would tell them when he was comfortable with it and she didn't want to rush it and overwhelm him.

“You ok?” Niall asked knocking her out of thought.

“Oh yeah. Sorry. Just dazed off.”

The blonde chuckled, “it's okay, happens to the best of us.”

Harry held onto her hand under the table, as he chatted with Liam. She wanted to believe this is how it would be from now on but she couldn't get her hopes up just yet.

“I bet after today there will be some tabloid saying you got hit by one of the guys.” Sophia chimed in causing them to laugh.

“I'll say it was me.” Louis added.

“Oh please.” Harry scoffed, “You could try.”

“Tell everyone it was me.” Londyn chimed in and Louis laughed, “That would be brilliant.”

Harry rolled his eyes, “Yeah then I would just tell everyone I am scared of her and that's why I still hang around her.”

Sophia laughed, “Yeah, because that's believable.”

Harry gave her hand a squeeze causing her eyes to meet his. He leaned in closer to whisper, “Did you tell anyone?”

“When would I have? I've been with you for the past few days.”

“Ah true.”

“Why?”

Harry shrugged, “Just wondering. Kind of want to tell someone.” He replied with a smile.

She chuckled, “You do what you want to do, Harry.”

“Do you mind?”

“Nope.”

“Sure?”

“Harry…”

“Ok, ok. Just making sure.” He defended as she dropped his hand to pick up her drink.

He quickly rejoined the conversation with the boys, laughing at who knows what and she couldn't help but stare at him.

Maybe he actually meant what he said.
