These Little Wonders

Chapter 6

Ryan didn't stay for long, only to act on the delusion that Brendon's house had more food than his own.

Once he had left Brendon couldn't help but feel very alone in his now empty house.

It was long after dark when Brendon gave into the boredom of the day and just crashed in his bed.

He had maybe been asleep for fifteen minutes when he heard a slight knocking.

It didn't really process in his mind till the thought occured to him that nature isn't usually that rhythmic.

Brendon managed to haul himself out of bed in his boxers and t-shirt, barely remembering to cram his glasses onto his face.

For whatever reason he was tired and after all those sleepless nights on a tour bus had made him crabby even with the littlest lack of sleep.

His feet and ears led him down the stairs to the door where he could barely make out the figure behind the glass.

He reached for his trusty baseball bat when he realized the person was too short to be Ryan.

Slowly he inched the door knob down in his hand, taking a deep breathe as he swung it open and held the bat aloft ready to strike.

Felix, standing there under the porch light with her short brown hair gave her a halo, even if it wasn't really there.

Despite her swollen red eyes she began hysterically laughing.

"Hey! You wake me up in the middle of the night to laugh at me?" Brendon exclaimed annoyedly.

Between laughs Felix managed to reply.

"You look hilarious! I mean the glasses on top of the bed head combined with the Spiderman boxers... and the bat!" She wheezed, going into another laughing whirlwind.

Brendon crossed his arms haughtily over his chest, couldn't help but let a smile slip as he saw himself in the mirror nearby.

He did look pretty ridiculous.

"Okay so you've got a point, but what are you doing here anyway?" He asked.

Felix, still glowing from her laughs, replied nonchalantly.

"I felt bad for leaving you this morning without saying a proper goodbye. If I had waited I would've been late for class."

Those words struck a chord in Brendon, a realization dawning on him.

"I know nothing about you."

"You know my name, that's more than most people get." Felix replied, breezing by him and into the house.

Brendon quickly followed after her as she plopped onto his couch.

"Well I feel special now." He muttered.

She grinned. "Oh Brendon you should, you're a pretty special guy."

"My mom calls me special." He murmured, unable to hold it back.

Felix giggled slightly and pulled him down next to her.

"So you said you were going to be late for class. Please elaborate."

"My art class at the university, I'm majoring in it." Felix answered nonchalantly.

It had never occured to Brendon that while he was traveling the world kids his age, like Felix, were going to college.

Had he not been in Panic At The Disco he'd probably be doing the same.

As selfish as it sounded he had never really thought about what Felix did in the time she wasn't popping up in his life.

Brendon figured if he were her friend he had probably better start working on being more like a friend.

"So you take art, like sketching, or painting or..." He trailed off.

"Multimedia." Felix said, filling in the blank. "Sketching, painting, sculpting whatever."

Brendon nodded.

"So what's the real reason you're here? I'd assume 'you snore' is standard goodbye in your repertoire."

Felix looked down oddly, fidgeting with her short hair.

"I just wanted to see you I guess." She muttered not so convincingly.

Brendon wasn't going to let her get off with that excuse.

"Oh come on Felix, no offense but I can see your eyes are all red like you've been crying. Now come on, I'm here for you, tell me what's going on."

With a sniff she answered in a small voice.

"Today's the anniversary of my mom's death." She whispered.

Brendon froze, being in familiar but very awkward territory.

There were two things he was never good at talking about; one was sex, the other was death.

Felix stared up at him almost knowing his thoughts.

"It's okay really, you don't have to be all sympathetic and Hallmark-y, I know it's not easy to comfort someone when it's about death." Felix said quietly.

It was such a sharp contrast from the normal witty and charming Felix he knew; this Felix was exposed and wounded.

Brendon didn't know what to say even with her words, so he did what came naturally to him.

He didn't say anything at all as he reached over and pulled Felix close to him, letting her head rest against his chest.

Almost out of instinct Brendon wrapped his arms tightly around her, keeping her as close as he could.

Felix didn't protest at all, instead she sunk deeper into his hold, letting her hand fall on his chest while the other wrapped around his torso.

Even though she was hurting, Brendon couldn't have let go of Felix if he wanted to.

There was something so right about Felix in his arms.

"Brendon," She whispered so softly. "I don't want to be alone tonight; can I stay with you?"

Brendon nodded, placing a kiss on her forehead.

"You don't even have to ask." He replied, giving her a tighter hug for a moment.

Quietly he took her hand while still keeping his arm around her and led Felix up to his bedroom.

There was nothing more than friendship in both their minds as they slipped under the covers.

It was more than friendship to Brendon however, when Felix reached over in the darkness and wrapped her arms around him.

He ran his hands absentmindedly through her hair till he fell asleep dreaming of what could be.

I'm sorry I don't update this story that often.
I love it, I really, really do, but I'd rather get this story right instead of feel pressured to produce.
Still, comments about this story mean a lot to me so if you like this I really wouldn't protest if you comment.
I hope this pic isn't too big... it's from my Honda Civic Tour.
