We're in this together we don't know who we are

“What the hell is that?” Harley turned her attention to the group of guys that took their spots just down the bar from where she was standing, handing a group of girls their drinks. She tucked the bills into the back pocket of her jeans and raised her eyebrow as she made her way over to them. She grabbed beer for the guys she knew drank beer, a glass of whiskey and a gladiator were sent to the far end for Craig and Kelly and Pekka looked at the mirror behind her and repeated himself, “I don't see a 35 on the back of that jersey.”

“6 looks better on her.” Shea stated, making the guys all roll their eyes.

Harley grinned, looked down at the jersey she had thrown on before opening the bar, much to large for her, tied at the back with an elastic, and told Pekka, “He's the only one that doesn't pick on me.”

“How you wound me.” Pekka told her, putting his hand on his heart for good measure.

Harley shook her head at him in amusement and Rich leaned over the bar as everyone went back to their normal booth. He looked at her for a moment before asking, “What time are you out of here tonight?”

Harley couldn't help but glance over at James, finding him watching them. The moment their eyes met he turned away, and Harley could have sighed right then and there. She looked back at Rich, took a step sideways, putting a tiny amount of distance between them as she grabbed another beer for one of the guys that had been there far too long already. He gave her a sleazy smile and Harley simply turned back to Rich and told him, “Ten.”

He looked up at the clock, it was quarter to, he smiled, “Then you can come have a drink with us after.”

She wanted to say no, but being that she had no apartment still her only option was to hide in the back until the bar was closed and she knew that wouldn't work with these guys. So instead she nodded, and Rich left her alone for the last bit of her shift, but she found him watching her each time she turned to check on their booth. By the time Sophie got there Harley wanted to tell her to go home and take the night off before anyone noticed she was there, but she didn't, instead she handed her the bar rag, filled her arms up with refills and made her way over to the booth in the back wall.

She slid in beside Kelly, deliberately avoiding the spot beside Rich, and she was glad when Kelly smiled and helped disperse the alcohol around the table. Harley pulled her Weber jersey off, tucking it between her and Kelly, leaving her in a black t-shirt, before she turned to find Craig's eyes on her. When she raised her eyebrow he shrugged and told her, “I just find it weird that you own a bar and I've never seen you drink anything but beer. I've always found that weird.”

“I've tried every single bottle that's on that shelf...that's why I drink so much beer.” Harley told him, taking a drink for good measure and he simply laughed and shook his head at her. Before anyone else could strike up a conversation with her Harley turned her head to Kelly and asked, “How's it going stranger?”

“I know I'm sorry! I think this is the first time I've actually left the house in like two weeks.” Kelly told her with a laugh.

“Feeling any better though?” Harley asked her, feeling bad for her. Kelly had spent the past two weeks at home sick, it seemed like every time she seemed to be getting over it it came back even worse. Harley had been the first one to make a joke about how mono was gonna go ripping through the team thanks to her, and it seemed to take a life of its own being the new team joke whenever one of the guys complained about not feeling well.

“Much.” Kelly told her, looking down at her empty drink before she asked her quietly, “Wanna go get another drink with me?”

Harley nodded and slipped out of the booth with her, neither of them saying a word to the group as they left and when everyone's eyes were on Craig he shrugged and joked, “You know girls, can't even go to the bathroom at a bar without another person.”

Once they were standing against the bar, Sophie making Kelly's drink, Kelly looked at Harley and told her, “You know he's been staring at you all night.”

Harley sighed and nodded, “I swear it's like we finally get out of that awkward stage and then he just goes and makes it worse.”

Kelly crunched her brows together and said, “I'm lost. Who are talking about?”

“Rich?” Harley poised her statement as a question, and Kelly turned back to the group before looking at Harley and letting her mouth shape an 'oh'.

“Right, Rich. So not who I was talking about.” She stated, taking her drink and sighing when Harley shoved her money back into her hand. When Harley raised an eyebrow at her Kelly told her, “I was talking about James.”

Harley didn't say anything right away, instead she motioned for Sophie and ordered two straight shots of JD, remembering her afternoon with Shea only a few days ago as she downed them both one after another. Finally when she did turn to Kelly she told her, “That's a whole mess of a situation that I don't even want to get into right now.”

“Fair enough but I expect an explanation at some point, because he is definitely looking at you like he has no idea of the Harley and Rich situation.” Kelly said, making Harley sigh.

“There is no such thing as the Harley and Rich situation. We're friends.” Harley stated as they made their way back across the bar and through the crowd of people.

Kelly gave her a pointed look before they arrived and said quickly, “You might want to remind him of that.”

They took their seats as if nothing had happened and the conversation they just finished hadn't occurred, Harley took another rather long drink from her beer, Shea raised his eyebrow at her and she shook her head at him. Pekka was the first to speak, looking directly at Harley when he asked, “Did you watch the game?”

“Would it make you feel better if I said I did?” Harley asked with a smirk, everyone at the table knew full well she had watched what she could, she made sure every game she could get was on the TV's in each of the corners of the room.

“New guy over here decided to show everyone up by getting a hatty.” Shea said, giving James a nudge as the table erupted.

Harley met his eyes and smiled, a silent congratulations, before she looked down at her beer bottle and then let her eyes rake over the rest of the bar. They were playing game highlights, the entire bar erupting much like their table had earlier, of course people shot glances at their booth, it was common knowledge that this was a post game hang out for many of the guys. No one seemed to bother them, not while they were all seated at least. Harley looked over at Sophie, she was holding her own as she normally did, and knowing the beer cooler was fully stocked Harley got up and threw out an excuse of needing to fill it before she disappeared into the back room.

James waited a full seven minutes before he got up, claiming he needed to use the bathroom, before he wandered into the back where the neon signs showed him where he was supposed to be going. Instead he walked right into Harley, managing to catch the box of beer she dropped. He glanced around and she motioned to the table by the wall and told him, “You can just put it there. Sorry.”

He shook his head but didn't say what she expected, instead he asked her, “You okay?”

Harley nodded and kept her eyes off of him, rather she stared at their shoes. James stepped closer, and he was surprised when she didn't step backwards, so he took that as an opening and stepped even closer, they were nearly touching. It reminded them both of days before. James was caught off guard by the fact that she smelled like candy, it caught him off guard every time he got close enough to her to smell it. The tiniest bit of vanilla and cotton candy. It was never what he expected.

He placed his hands on her back, palms flat against her t-shirt, and pulled her right into him, there wasn't a sliver of space between them. He was surprised when she looked up at him, leaned up on her toes and kissed him. Slow and soft. When she pulled back and dropped onto the balls of her feet, her cheeks flushed, she apologized.

James shook his head and silenced her with his lips, one hand staying on her back, holding her against him, the other tangling in her long hair. He had imagined this so many times, and it was never as good as it was right now. Harley grabbed a fist full of the front of his shirt, pulled away from him and pulled him into the make shift office down the hall. She had her back to the door, one arm around his side, hand on the middle of his back, the other reached down to lock the door as his lips moved from her lips to her neck, his hands now on her hips, pulling her into him again.

Harley pushed him backward slightly, just enough to get him moving with her guiding him before she hopped onto the desk, trying to get at a slightly better advantage height wise, before she connected their lips again. James couldn't help but wonder if they were really going to do this, here of all places, and his questions were answered when Harley pulled his belt loose. That was all he needed, his fingers fumbled for a few seconds with the button on her jeans before it popped open and he lifted her off the desk just enough to shove them from her waist and down her legs. Harley didn't bother kicking the one remaining leg of the jeans that was still hooked around her ankle as she undid the zipper to his dress pants and pushed them down as far as they would go. James glanced at her once, he could barely see her, neither of them had thought to turn the light on. Yet she was here, right in front of him, and for a second he thought he should stop this, but the moment she ran her hands down his chest and stomach that thought was forgotten.
