Somewhere Only We Know

7: Be With Me

Sitting down in the seat that Iker had thoughtfully bought for her, Ariana sighed, her blue eyes glancing towards Lucia who sat mutedly at her side. She had known that her sister would be upset, Lucia always was when something went right for Ariana, but she didn’t quite know what to say. She and Iker had just kind of happened and she didn’t see the need to justify it to Lucia. She was happy with the keeper and didn’t want to let him go just yet.

Lucia glared at her sister out of the corner of her eye. She was irked, it didn’t seem fair to her that Ariana, her boring and plain little sister, had gotten Iker whilst she was still alone. She was far more deserving of the footballer’s affections and hated that he couldn’t see it. Ariana would never be enough for him, she would never be enough for anyone.

“Luci, I am sorry” Ariana murmured as she peeked down at the pitch. The game against Getafe was about to start and Ariana was hoping to catch a glimpse of her boyfriend in his kit. She was sure that he would look wonderful.

“Sorry? Ari, he’s Iker freaking Casillas, sorry doesn’t even cut it” she muttered.

“It’s not like I planned on dating him. We met the other night when you and I went out and we just hit it off. He’s a nice guy Lucia” Ariana defended gently.

“I don’t care. How could you get a footballer? I mean, look at you. What does Iker freaking Casillas see in you?” the blonde girl snapped.

Ariana sighed at her sister’s comment and dropped her head. She had been expecting it, Lucia’s reaction, but that didn’t mean that the blonde’s comments didn’t hurt. She was forever putting Ariana down and the brunette had started to believe her when she said mean things. There must have been a reason that the blonde girl kept saying it.

“I want you to break up with him Ari” Lucia announced as she inspected her nails.

“What?” Ariana poked.

“I want you to break up with him. The poor man doesn’t deserve to have you weighing him down, he deserves a chance to have a real woman and let’s face it, baby sister, that isn’t you. Iker’s a handsome man, do you honestly expect that he won’t find a better looking girl than you?” Lucia explained.

Ariana gaped a little at her sister’s request. She couldn’t quite believe that she was telling her to break up with Iker.

“Don’t you want me to be happy?” she squeaked.

Lucia offered her a smile. “Of course I do Ariana, I just know that Iker won’t be the man that makes you so. You deserve someone more fitting, someone that isn’t likely to drop you the moment he spends time with me, and I don’t think Iker is it. You saw the way he looked at me. There was lust there Ari and I don’t want to act on it until I know that you two are done” she twittered.

Ariana rolled her eyes. She should have guessed that Lucia’s desire to see her break up with Iker stemmed from the stupid idea that the keeper had the hots for her. She should have guessed that Lucia wanted into Iker’s pants.

“Break up with him Ari, save yourself” Lucia noted before she moved away to find herself a drink.

Ariana rolled her eyes. She had never wanted Lucia to meet Iker and she wished she could take it back. Lucia was going to be a nightmare whether Ariana stayed with goalie or not.

“Ari” Iker smiled as he stepped out of the dressing room, his brown eyes searching quickly for the sight of his girlfriend. It had been a good game, Madrid had one 2-0 and Iker was a little proud of himself for keeping a clean sheet. He hoped that it would impress Ariana.

Ariana, who had been leaning against a wall, pushed herself forwards a little, greeting her boyfriend with a restricted smile. “You made it down here then?” Iker enthused as he moved to put his hands on her waist.

“The pass worked as you said it would, though, finding my way to this spot proved a task. This place is like a maze” she joked weakly.

Iker noted the strange tone of her voice and tilted his head, catching the stare of her sky blue eyes. “Ari?” he prodded “Are you feeling ok?” he added.

Ariana nodded. “I’m fine. I just came down so that I could say goodnight” she explained, trying to evade his warm look.

Iker frowned. “I thought you wanted to come back to mine? We were going to watch a film?” he posed.

Ariana shook her head. “Lucia wants me to take her home and I don’t want to keep her waiting” she murmured.

Iker’s frown deepened slightly. He had heard shy Ariana before, but the tone of her voice was something different. It was like she had had ever ounce of confidence zapped from her and Iker didn’t have to guess who by. Lucia had clearly said something that had upset his girlfriend and that made his blood boil. He detested the notion of Lucia wrecking what fragile confidence that Ariana had in her.

“Ari, what did Lucia say to you?” he posed gently.

Ariana shook her head. “Nothing Iker, nothing for you to worry about” she murmured.

Iker lifted his hand and gently set it on her cheek, brushing his thumb over her cheekbone. “Ariana, please, tell me what she said” he whispered.

Ariana sighed gently. “She said that I should break up with you and I can’t help but agree. I don’t think you and I should be together” she whimpered.

Iker recoiled, his forehead furrowed. “What?” he spat out.

“I don’t think that you and I should be together. I mean look at you Iker, you’re nigh on perfect and I am…I am not” she whispered.

Iker shook his head. “That’s not true. You are perfect, to me at least, and I don’t want to break up with you” he spluttered.

“It’s for the best. You don’t need me weighing you down” she muttered as she turned on her heel, preparing to walk away from him. Iker’s head span with her words, but he was conscious enough to reach his hand out, capturing her wrist in it. Pulling her back, he quickly placed his hands on her hips and pressed a light kiss against her lips, something which caused Ariana to gasp in surprise. A large part of her had just expected Iker to let her walk away.

“Ari please” Iker murmured “I want you to stay. I like having you around and don’t care what your sister has to say. You’re perfect to me, surely that it is all that matters?” he posed gently, his brown eyes studying hers carefully. Ariana blinked before she ducked her head, causing Iker to reach beneath her chin once more. “Hermosa” he purred gently “Please stay. You’re the best girlfriend I have had in a while and I would hate for that to end just because your sister is jealous” he whispered.

Ariana sighed. “I don’t know Iker. Luci seems to think…”

“Screw what Luci thinks. What do you think Ari? Do you want to be with me?” he interrupted.

Ariana jumped a little at the force in his voice.

“Ariana, do you want to be with me?” he repeated, his nose gently nudging against hers.

Ariana smiled gently at the contact and nodded. “I do Iker” she whispered.

“Then be with me Ari. Lucia will get over her jealousy” he insisted.

Ariana smiled gently before she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a soft kiss. She knew it wasn’t going to be easy, Lucia wasn’t going to let it go easily, but Ariana, in that moment didn’t care. She did want to be with Iker, he made her feel special, and she didn’t want to give that up, not because Lucia demanded her to.

“We should go back to mine” Iker murmured softly “I have a bottle of wine that has your name written all over it” he cooed.

Ariana smiled. “I would love that Iker” she cooed as she moved to pull her phone from her pocket. She needed to text Lucia and tell her to make her own way home.

Iker smiled and pressed a kiss to her temple as he took her hand.

He was not going to let Lucia ruin his relationship for him.
