*READ THE AUTHOR'S NOTE!!! IT HAS IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!!*

Adaline woke up the next morning with a massive smile on her face. Something about Sidney made her giddy. She was confused with his ever changing personality. It was like he had different faces. He could be authoritative and confident, shy and sweet, and straight up snarky. He was bewildering and Adaline was enjoying figuring out just who he was. Adaline was surprised at how much she enjoyed talking with him. it seemed like she had known him her entire life, but there was the intrigue and spark of learning something new about him.

When she first met Sidney she was shocked at how consuming he was. Sure, she had seen him in games, and watched him completely take over a game. He was inspiring to watch, he commanded attention. That intensity he had on the ice translated, if not more so, into his personality. He seemed to be the sole focus of attention, everyone hanging on his every word. Being around him was unlike Adaline had ever felt before. The intense attraction, desire to know him, and her want to hear what he had to say surprised her. Adaline had thought men to be attractive before, she had just never met anyone she could see trusting enough to seriously consider. While it was completely hypothetical, therefore unlikely, if she was going to conider any man, it would be him.

She got out of bed, and the coldness of her toes on the floor seemed to shock her back into reality. What was she doing? How could she even consider having feelings for someone at this time? She was broken and a man certainly wouldn't fix her. A best friend would; well, her best friend would have. Adaline instantly felt the tears welling as she thought about how much she wanted to tell Sara all about Sidney. She wanted to ask Sara what she thought. She wanted to giggle with Sara as they discussed what features they liked best about him.

Adaline worked through her morning routine: taking a shower, drying her hair, brushing her teeth, and applying light make up. As soon as she was finished she trotted downstairs and realized how late she slept in. It was nearing eleven and Adaline couldn't remember the last time she had slept that long. She was dressed in her pajamas still and had her favorite fuzzy socks on. The house was eerily quiet almost like nobody was home. She twirled in her spot and looked around the house trying to play Sherlock. Maybe there was a footprint on the carpet somewhere?

"Addie?" she heard James call out from behind her. She squeaked, startled from the interruption of her detective skills.

"Yea?" she questioned nonchalantly, as she scratched behind her ear.

"What were you just doing?" James asked, a smile smile pulling onto his lips. Adaline could clearly see his tear-stained, puffy eyes.

"Nothing. Why do you ask?" she asked a little too quickly.

"You were staring at the carpet with a smirk on your face." James retorted. His smile was continuing to grow.

"What? No I wasn't." Adaline said just a little too defensively.

"Uh...yea you were." he countered.

"I...I thought there was a spider." Adaline reasoned and tried to keep a straight face.

"Uh huh." James said suspiciously.

Adaline just nodded in concurrent, nodding so fast she resembled the bobble head James had on his desk. James crossed his arms over his chest and continued to give Adaline a speculative stare.

"Yep. So, are we just going to stand here? Or?" Adaline asked twiddling the end of her Doctor Who sleep shirt.

"Do you want to watch a movie?" James asked with an odd look on his face. It was almost like he was afraid Adaline would say no.

"Of course Jamie. Wacha want to watch?" Adaline asked him. The look on his face took a twist of bewilderment. Now he was really confused. "What?" Adaline asked looking down, in case there was something askew with her appearance.

"You called me Jamie. You haven't called me Jamie in a while..." James seemed to trail off.

"Oh...I guess it just slipped out." Adaline said bashfully, looking down at her feet.

"I missed it Addie, that's all." James said trying to alleviate some of her embarrassment. "Why don't we get started on that movie now?" James asked gesturing with his head to the living room. Adaline agreed and walked with him.

They sat on the couch and watched Captain America, one of James favorites at the moment. After that, Adaline persuaded him to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. James exclaimed in outrage as he finished the franchise. Adaline just said "believe me, we all felt that." Then came Green Lantern and James seemed to be able to quote the entire movie. Adaline and James both seemed to be in this bubble, if they could ignore reality, they were fine. There were a few quiet moments shared between the two when they sensed the missing void that was Sara, but they seemed to try to push it from their minds. It was about five when they finished the last movie. There was a quiet lull for a few seconds before Adaline's stomach let out a roaring growl. James busted up into laughter, pointing at her and saying nonsensical things that couldn't be deciphered.

"Shut up! I'm hungry!" Adaline protested while chuckling herself.

"No judgments here." James nearly giggled. Adaline just pushed his shoulder and rolled her eyes. "I'm pretty hungry too." James admitted.

"I can go pick something up?" Adaline questioned.

"You don't mind? I just.... I can't..." James said seeming to be at a loss for words.

"You don't have to say anything Jamie. Now, please tell me you have some good Mexican food around here?" Adaline hoped.

"Not any like you'll find in California. But, there is a fantastic Chinese place downtown Sara and I love." James said and became quiet gain.

"Then that's what we'll get." Adaline recovered quickly and got up and squeezed his shoulder and flashing him a smile before heading upstairs to change.

Adaline came back down stairs in a pair of rolled up capri jeans, a whit baseball tee with charcoal sleeves, and grey converse. She threw one last goodbye at James and follow her gps to the restaurant. The place was a hole in the wall and smelled delicious inside. The decor was a mixture of shabby-chic and authentic decor. She had never seen a twist like that before, but she feel in love with the place instantly. There was a family and two couples eating in the dining area and nobody was at the counter.

"Hi! Can I help you?" a high school boy called from behind the counter.

"Uh... can I have the beef fried rice with beef and broccoli? And can I have chow mien with orange chicken....um...and two orders of wantons?" Adaline asked the guy and he scribbled down her order. He said it should be done in a few minutes, so she took a seat and looked around the building again. She could see Sara and James in here after one of his games or on a Saturday, just enjoying each other and eating great food. In the mean time she began fiddling with her phone when the bell signaled that someone had come into the restaurant. Adaline looked up and saw Joe Vitale walk in the restaurant. He didn't seem to recognize her so he walked straight to the counter to place his order. When he turned back around she saw him do a double take while looking at her. His eyebrows furrowed and lifted a second later when he seemed to remember who she was.

"Adaline, right?" Joe asked her hesitantly.

"Yea. You're Joe Vitale, right?" she asked him, extending her hand out to him. He shook it while responding,

"Yep. I'm.. I'm so sorry for your loss." He said with softening eyes.

"Thank you." Adaline said. The two chatted briefly as they waited for their orders.

"Order for Adaline." The employee called out. Adaline's attention flicked over to the food.

"Well, that's me. It was nice to see you." Adaline smiled at the hockey player and began to walk away.

"Hey Adaline?"

"Yea?" she asked.

"Thank you for taking care of him." Joe said seriously with a forlorn smile.

"There's no where else I'd be." Adaline said sincerely. She grabbed the food, ushered another goodbye, and drove back to James's house. The two watched more movies and ate Chinese food until they both passed out on the couch.

Today was the day. Adaline was going out with Sidney. Despite her protests, he had decided he was taking her somewhere fancy for dinner, so she had to dress up for the occasion. Adaline went shopping earlier in the day because she hadn't brought any fancy dinner date outfits. She would have to rethink he packing list the next time she went somewhere. Now, she had her hair curled and was staring at the makeup she had bought especially for tonight. Adaline applied the nude lipstick and drew a cat eye with liquid eye liner. Mascara and some foundation completed the face reconstruction for the night. Adaline walked over and pulled the blue dress out of the bag. The dress was a pale blue, almost a powder blue. The material was fairly thick which made the dress look textured. It had halter straps and a scoop neck. The dress was fitted until her waist. It flared out slightly and had was pleated in the front. The dress fell down to about mid thigh. Adaline carefully twisted her hair up and pinned it into a undo positioned at the top of her neck. Finally, she stepped into a pair of nude heels.

She picked up her nude clutch, which was also new, and put her belonings inside. Sidney had texted he was coming down the street. So, she trotted down stairs and poked her head down the basement where James and his brother were playing video games. James's brother arriving the other day had helped him immensely. James had shown signs of perking up and started acting somewhat normal. Recently, they'd been playing video games.

"Hey boys? I'm heading out for a while. I'll be home later." Adaline called out, not visible form her position on the stairs.

"Where you going?" James asked, but she didn't hear him get up.

"Just out, nosy. See you later." Adaline called just as she heard the game resume and a knock on the door.

Adaline opened the door and inhaled at the sight. Sidney was standing in the doorway. He was in dark wash jeans, a smoky grey button up, and a pair of black shoes. She tried not to stare, she really did, but she couldn't help it. He was breathtakingly sexy. Adaline had never felt that kind of pull toward anyone before.

She heard Sidney's voice hitch as his mahogany eyes danced over her. He spent extra time looking at her lean legs and her eyes outfitted with eyeliner. His mouth was open slightly, his eyes darkening dangerously.

"You look incredible." Sidney said, voice full astonishment. Adaline blushed and looked down.

"You don't look bad yourself." Adaline teased and looked back up at him. He was still looking at her intently.

"Do you wanna..." Sidney asked gesturing back toward his car with his hand.

"Oh! Of course." Adaline smiled and stepped out into the balmy night. Sidney smiled, something he seemed to be doing a lot of and placed his hand at her lower back guiding her toward the car. He opened the passenger door and Adaline smirked up at him. "So gallant." Adaline commented sassily.

"I try." Sidney remarked and shut the door once she was inside. He ran around to his side of the car and hopped in. He fired up the SUV and music began playing.

"Country?" Adaline asked.

"The guys give me shit about it, but I like it." Sidney admitted somewhat bashfully.

"Well you don't have to worry about me. I love country. Well, country and classical." Adaline commented.

"That's uh..."

"I know. Opposite ends of the spectrum?"

"You could say that." Sidney chuckled.

They drove in a comfortable silence and Adaline looked out into the city and admired the lights. Granted, Adaline lived about twenty minutes from the heart of Los Angeles. Now, those were city lights. They arrived at a small Italian restaurant. It was very intimate and oozed money. Adaline cringed thinking about the prices. Sidney parked in the lot to the side of the restaurant. He opened his door and started walking to get Adaline's door just as she opened it and got out.

"I'm supposed to do that." Sidney said as he walked up to her.

"I am fully capable of opening a car door." Adaline said through a laugh.

"I've always liked a strong woman." Sidney remarked with a wink. There he was again; sassy, confident Sidney.

He once again put his hand on her back and guided her toward the restaurant. They were seated immediately in the back of the restaurant. There was a red table cloth in the circular booth with a candle and rose centerpiece. They slid in and sat a reasonable distance away from one another.

"This all looks so incredible." Adaline said as they peered over the menu, dying to try at least five dishes.

"I hope you like Italian food?" Sidney asked.

"I love it. My favorite types of food are Mexican and Italian." Adaline said looking over at him.

"You're from California right?" Sidney asked, bringing up their substantial distance barrier.

"Yes. Manhattan Beach." Adaline smiled fondly, thinking about her home.

"Did you grow up there?"

"No, I actually lived in Brentwood growing up."

"Where's that?" Sidney asked.

"It's around Los Angeles, nearer to the beach." Adaline said nostalgically.

"So, you love the beach?" Sidney asked.

"I do. I can't imagine life without a beach. It's hard to explain the reason I love the beach so much." Adaline smiled.

"What are your parents like?" Sidney asked.

"They're.... My mom is the picture of perfection, always in place, and with the "in" crowd. My father is very reserved, dedicated to his work. I didn't see him much growing up. He's a CEO at a bank in Los Angeles. He was hardly ever home. But, he's an incredible man." Adaline added. "What about your family?"

"My family is great. I don't know what I'd do without them sometimes." Sidney said. "Do you have any siblings?" he continued.

"No. Unfortunately not. I'm an only child. You?"

"I have a sister, Taylor. She's incredible." Sid hummed.

"You're twenty five right?" Sidney asked her.

"Uh.. no. I'm twenty three actually. I skipped a grade." Adaline murmured. Sidney went quiet and just looked at her.

"There is absolutely no way. You're too mature to be in your early twenties."

"That's me..." Adaline trailed off.

"Wow." Sidney commented. The waitress then arrived and took their order. Sidney and Adaline spent the next two hours eating and getting to know one another. Not once was Adaline disappointed with him. He was sweet and genuine, a great guy. She was getting swept away in the whole night, absolutely loving every moment. The check came, and Sidney paid, refusing to let her see the bill.
"It's my treat." was all Sid had to say about the matter.

"Well thank you. Next time, I'll get it." Adaline argued.

"Next time?" Sidney taunted. Adaline instantly went bright red. He placed his hand onto of hers and squeezed it. "I am looking forward to it." He murmured.

They both got up and walked out of the restaurant. He held the door for her and she once again sent him a saucy smile.

"Do you want to take a walk?" Sidney asked hopefully.

"Sure." Adaline agreed. Sidney began guiding them down the street. He began pointing out some of his favorite things in the city as they walked through the heart of Pittsburgh. Adaline was looking off out at a park when Sidney ran his hand down her arm and grabbed her hand. She looked down at their entwined fingers and smiled. She enjoyed the warmth from his hand, the feel of his hand holding hers protectively. She gazed up from under her lashes and looked into his eyes. His coco eyes held hers and they warmed her to the core. He tugged her forward toward an ice cream shop. She got her favorite, coffee ice cream. Sidney decided to get the same and was delighted to discover he liked it.

"You have a..." Adaline was pointing to his nose.

"What?" Sidney asked.

"Right here." Adaline said as she pretended to wipe his nose. Instead, she smeared ice cream on his nose.

"You didn't?!" Sidney protested in mock shock.

"I think I did." Adaline said cheekily.

"I'm plotting my revenge. You'd best get ready." Sidney warned. They finished their ice cream and laughed more than both of them had to in a while. They walked back to his car hand in hand, and continued that way on the way back to James's house.

"I'll walk you to the door." Sidney said. "Wait right there." he said after a second thought. Adaline simply laughed but nodded anyway. He opened her door and she slid out and he grabbed her hand again. He walked her to the door and swung her around to face him.

"I had an amazing time tonight." Adaline commented and took a step closer to him, enjoying his being a human furnace.

"I did too. I think you're an incredible person." he said sweetly, but still very seriously.

"I don't know what to do going forward." Adaline said with a slight frown.

"Why don't we take this thing one day at a time? I've loved getting to know you, and I don't want to stop now." he said with a slight husk.

"I was thinking the same thing." Adaline said and stood on her tiptoes and kissed him on the cheek. She leaned back and her eyes fluttered open. "Goodnight Sidney." she whispered.

"Goodnight Adaline." he whispered back as she turned and went indoors.
