Left for Dead

The Unforgiven

"Not likely." Andrea said from behind the spitter that now fell to the ground as she put a bullet in its head. She held the gun proudly in the only hand she had left.

"I wanted to thank you Rochelle for saving my life." Andrea said bluntly lowering the gun.

"I'd hope someone would do the same for me" Rochelle replied briskly.

It seemed to get even more humid as noon rolled around. Smoking a cigarette almost made me sick from the heat but I knew Rochelle wanted to make a move to the amusement park before dark. I sat on a cheap lawn chair in the shade as the others argued about staying in this motel or coming with us to Whispering Oaks amusement park in hopes of finding a EVAC chopper that may be still looking for survivors. My body was sticky from sweat and having to sit outside in the blazing hot sun due to the fact that it was like a sauna inside any of the rooms, didn't help one bit.

"There ain't any better out there!" Louis tried to convince us to stay. Rochelle immediately snapped at him explaining to him that it was worth the try rather than living like this for the rest of our lives.

"We're not going" Andrea said sternly. Ashley stood up and agreed with what Andrea just said.

Rochelle winced, "That's really unfortunate. It really is. You guys are all good people".

"As are all five of you. But you can't blame us for giving up. We'll move when the time is right" Bill interrupted. "You guys are always welcome back here if it doesn't pan out for you all..." Bill trailed.

"Thanks." Rochelle replied shortly. "We're heading out as soon as all of mine are ready" she added.

"I strongly suggest waiting until tomorrow morning to head out. It's too hot right now. You're all weak and need to eat and rest" Zoey said softly.

"Thanks... but our best chance is tonight" Rochelle replied, turning down their offer.

"As you wish then." Zoey said avoiding an argument.

"We're heading out just after dinner time" Rochelle added. Bill nodded before Rochelle walked away and headed into the lobby of the motel.

I leaned my head back, closing my eyes and sighing. This wasn't an easy decision as leaving this place and these people wouldn't be easy. I'm aware that I've only known all of them for a short amount of time but in a zombie apocalypse, running into survivors and bonding with anyone that isn't infected automatically grows a bond with you and the uninfected. However I wasn't going to pass up to possible opportunity of getting rescued and out of this hell for anyone.

"Are they done fighting yet?" Sasha said as she handed me a cold bottle of water. She sat down and sighed. "It's so hot out it's disgusting." She added.

"They finally shut up if that's what you mean" I replied as I put the water bottle up to my lips. Sasha giggled and stared at the others who were doing their own thing.

"That Coach guy and Julia are sure hitting it off hey?" Sasha asked randomly.

I shrugged, "Looked like it yeah. Where are they anyway?" I asked.

"Room 204. You should hear it up there." Sasha replied chuckling. I shook my head.

"Oh boy..." I said slowly.

"Guess what I did?" Sasha asked in a goofy voice. I cocked an eyebrow and turned to stare at her.

"What did you do?" I asked carefully.

"What your friend Coach is doing to Julia... except I did that with Nick' She explained enough. I rolled my eyes and shook my head, but couldn't help but smirk. As if they wasn't an obvious pair.

"He's kind of an asshole I can tell but under that tough guy shit he's really sweet. You can just tell by how he cares to protect all of you. You know?" Sasha explained.

I nodded, not really paying attention. I looked over across the motel parking lot to see Ellis, topless and under the hood of a van with the thirteen year old boy who I learned his name was Jack. The van was Andrea's and her family's. It had broke down once they made it to this motel. Since Ellis was a mechanic before all this happened, he decided to fix it the best he could with what little supplies there was at this hotel. Jack was excited to be able to help Ellis do so. I couldn't help but smile as I watched Ellis slam the hood down and hand the keys to Jack, who ran over to the drivers side door and climbing in. The van fired up as soon as Jack turned the key in the ignition. Jack jumped out and high fived Ellis, excited that "they" had both fixed his parent's van.

"Ah... hee-haw is on your mind isn't he?" Sasha asked.

"Huh?" I asked finally paying attention.

"You're not listening to anything I'm saying because of Ellis" She stated with a smile. I shrugged.

"I'm sorry." I apologized.

Sasha chuckled, "Don't be. I can really see the chemistry between the two of you."

I blushed as I continued to stare at Ellis, who turned and looked over at me, cracking a smile and waving. Sasha and I waved back. I looked back behind me into the window of the motel lobby. I saw Rochelle and Louis talking and laughing. I smiled as I turned my attention back to Sasha who cleared her throat as Nick walked over to us, sitting down on the same lawn chair as Sasha.

"I wish this shit was all over" Nick said as he sighed. Sasha leaned in and kissed Nick. I turned my head as they began to make out.

Coach and Julia came outside and stopped dead in their tracks.

"You wont come with us will you?" Coach asked with sadness dripping from his tone. Julia sighed as she placed her hand on the side of Coach's face forcing him to look up at her. She shook her head 'No'.

"I have to protect these people. I've been through so much already that I don't feel like risking what we have here to die... I'm sorry." She answered softly.

"Well, I want you to have this then" Coach said as he took off the whistle hanging around his neck, placing it into Julia's hand. She stared up at him in awe.

"What's this for?" She asked as she squinted her eyes from the blistering sun shining in her eyes.

Coach sighed and cleared his throat, "...To remember me by".
