Don't Let Me Jump, Don't Let Me Fall

Chapter 3: The Psychology Paper

Two months have passed since Rian's article came out and things are calming down.
Jack no longer gets yelled at in the middle of the street and people have stopped staring at him.
No one has been caught on the cliff edge for a month and a half.

It's February now. The winter blues are leaving but it's not quite yet gone.

Jack knows something going to happen.

---

February 23rd, 2016. 01:48am.

Jack is sat in the tree about 7 metres away from the cliff edge. It's his vantage point, he can see along the length of the cliff perfectly.
Looks like another quiet night.

Jack's watching the waves when he hears footsteps.
He glances across the distance of the cliff and spots a young man walking over to the edge.
'Fuck.' Jack breathes, quietly climbing out of the tree.
He has light brown hair and incredibly long legs, Jack notices. Very handsome.
He watches as the young man sits cross legged on the edge, looking out across the beach.
Jack walks over quickly but softly, ready to leap forward if need be,
'It's late.' He whispers and the man sighs,
'You mean early.' He says,
'Doesn't matter. You should be at home.' Jack says, sitting down next to the man. He can't be that much older than Jack. Only young.
But he looks broken.
'I don't have a home anymore.' He sighs,
'What happened?' Jack asks,
'Look Jack, you're a good person. I've read a lot about you. You seem amazing, but could you not just turn away for a minute. Turn your wings towards me and pretend you never saw me?' He begs and Jack reaches over and curls his fingers around the mans wrist protectively,
'What's your name?' He asks,
'Alexander.' He sighs,
'Okay. I take it you know who I am then?' Jack whispers and Alexander nods,
'I wrote my higher psychology paper about you.' He says, 'You inspire me.' He adds and Jack sighs,
'If I inspire you, then why are you out here?' He asks,
'Because I can't take it anymore.' Alexander mumbles and Jack watches as the young man hangs his leg over the edge of the cliff,
'No, no, no, put that back up here.' He snaps and grabs Alexander's trouser leg and pulls the limb back onto the cliff,
'If you wrote about me, do you know why I do this?' Jack asks and Alexander shrugs,
'You're a good person. Like helping people.' He says softly,
'Sort of. The plaque next to you. Look at it.' Jack instructs and Alexander does as he's told,
'Amber Lily was my best friend. That's why I do this.' The 25 year old says,
'Shit. I'm sorry.' Alexander mutters,
'How old are you Alexander?' Jack asks,
'26.' He sighs,
'What do you do for a living?' The Cliff Angel queries,
'I'm training to become a psychologist.' Alexander says softly,
'That's awesome.' Jack smiles,
'Yeah, I guess,' The young man whispers, looking off into the distance,
'Listen to me Alexander, you don't want to do this. Things might seem bad but this is not the answer.' Jack says, not willing to beat around the bush anymore.
'Jack Barakat, you don't know me.' Alexander says, pulling out of Jack's grip and pushing himself forward.
