Don't Let Me Jump, Don't Let Me Fall

Chapter 5: The Realisation

Jack and Alex met five days ago now. Alex has been staying at Jack's, although he didn't want to, said he didn't want to intrude on Jack's life, but Jack refused to let him go.

'Alex, I need to talk to you.' Jack says, walking into the lounge where Alex is sat, watching tv alone while Jack was at work,
'Hello to you too.' Alex chuckles,
'Sorry, but I've been thinking and yeah, I just need to talk to you.' Jack sighs,
'Okay, go ahead.' Alex says softly,
'Do you want to move in?' Jack asks,
'I can't afford to pay bills or anything. That's not fair on you.' The elder sighs,
'We'll find you a job then if you want. But I don't mind. I've loved having you here Alex and I want to know that it's not just a temporary thing.' Jack says, a slight smile on his lips,
'Um, okay, yeah.' Alex smiles, chewing on his lip softly,
'Yeah? Brilliant! How about I go get changed, then we can go grab some lunch and go shopping. You can't keep wearing my clothes.' Jack grins,
'Are you sure? I don't want you spending too much on me.' Alex sighs,
'Shut it.' Jack chuckles.

(Later on)

'Thank you for everything.' Alex whispers, pressing a kiss to Jack's cheek,
'Don't mention it. I've got to go get ready, I need to be at the cliff in like 10 minutes.' Jack smiles softly,
'Jay... Can I come?' Alex asks quietly and Jack looks him directly in the eyes, his head tilted to the side slightly,
'Um, why?' He asks, he's not exactly sure he wants Alex near the cliff edge,
'I just want to talk to you and spend some time with you I guess. I'll stay by your side the entire night, I promise.' Alex says quietly,
'Alright. That's fine then. Put something warm on.' Jack smiles before getting up.

'You really are incredible, you know that?' Alex says softly,
'Not really.' Jack shrugs,
'But you are. You've saved so many lives and you've completely changed mine in a few short days. I think that's incredible Jacky.' The elder says and Jack smiles politely,
'Thank you. But I don't see it like that. I just see it as something any good human being would want to do. I don't think it makes me special.' Jack says quietly, leaning back against the tree that him and Alex are sat in front of,
'You okay?' Alex whispers, putting his hand on Jack's thigh and squinting at the youngers face in the dim light of the evening,
'Yeah.' Jack sighs, pulling his knees up to his chest and resting his head on them, looking way from Alex and taking a deep breathe,
'Talk to me. Don't shut me out now.' Alex begs, sitting up straight and trying to get Jack to look at him,
'It's nothing, I'm just thinking.' Jack mumbles,
'About what? It's clearly upsetting you.' The elder says softly, putting his hand lightly on Jack's arm,
'It's just... If I hadn't of seen you the other night, you'd be dead. Or even, if I hadn't of gone over exactly when I did, you would have jumped and I would have had to watch you die. I would have watched the man who, as soon as I started talking to, I automatically felt this huge connection with, and I've never felt so comfortable around anyone before, I would have watched him die. That's just sinking in, is all.' The younger sighs, quickly wiping the stray tear off of his cheek,
'Jack...' Alex whispers, his voice cracking, 'Jack, I didn't know you felt like that.' He adds quietly,
'I do. Call me crazy, because we haven't known each other long, but I feel as though we are supposed to be together.' Jack says gently, turning to look at Alex,
'You're not crazy.' He says simply.
