“Goose! Come here! I have a video to show you,” Niklas yelled from the kitchen a few days later. Goose laughed and zipped Alana’s little white dress before helping her put her cowboy boots on.
“Just a second Kronner! Lemme finish helping Alana,” he shot back. Alana was still frightened, but she was a lot calmer than when they had first brought her home. Picking up Alana, Goose settled her on his hip and made his way into the kitchen. Niklas was standing behind his favorite chair staring at his laptop, but looked up when the two of them came in. In just the few short days that he had known Alana, he had become her “favorite uncle”. Why that was Niklas still wasn’t sure but who was he to complain?
“Unca Nicky,” she squealed, reaching for him. Laughing, Niklas took her from his friend and settled her into his arms. She was a pretty girl there was no doubt about it. Adopted that she was, in Nicky’s mind she looked a little bit like Goose. Not that he would ever say that to his friend for fear of him thinking he had a child with another woman besides Elizabeth.
“Hi, pretty girl,” he said. Alana snuggled into him and Niklas smiled. Goose let out a whine and Niklas bit back a laugh.
“Oh come on Goose. You see her everyday!” Goose stuck out his tongue.
“Oh yeah I know Kronner. So what was it you wanted to show me,” he asked, raising his eyebrows. Niklas leaned over the laptop and pressed the play button on the video. Slowly, the familiar look of Joe Louis Arena came into the view. Elizabeth was sitting on the bench in her brother’s jersey, jeans, and a pair of red tennis shoes. She was staring up at the banners but turned to face the camera with a smile and started to sing.
