Homeward Bound
The Donovans
Ray awakens. She lets out a howl.
Although her brain is not developed enough to understand the state of her parents’ marriage, there is something familiar about the salt in the air.
Henry slams on the breaks. His head springs forward and he curses in pain.
The sound of Ray’s cry provides him with a sense of clarity that he is not accustomed to. He is no longer frustrated with Anna, but rather himself.
What has he done?
Anna hangs up her phone and rushes to Ray’s bedroom.
Ray’s face is red and she is working up a storm. She cradles her in her arms and attempts to comfort her.
Nothing will work.
