Say You Don’t Want It

Twenty-Three: What Is On Your Mind?

“Remind me why I have to get all dressed up?” Alexis murmured as she straightened out the material of her dress. It was early, Cristiano had insisted that he take her out for dinner, and Alexis was curious. It had been six months since they had started dating but Alexis had never celebrated such an anniversary before, something which made her a little curious. There was something up with her boyfriend, Cristiano had been odd in the week since he had gone back to training, but she knew better than to question it. Cristiano would get around to telling her what was on his mind eventually and she didn’t want to push him on it. Things were good and she didn’t create a fight between them, not when she was just starting to become comfortable with where their relationship was.

“Because” Cristiano mused “I have picked a very nice restaurant for dinner and I thought it would be nice for us to dress up a little. It’s been a while since I saw you all dolled up just for me” he added, his arms gently folding around her waist. She looked beautiful, the forest coloured dress hugged the parts of her that he loved seeing and he still had a hard time accepting that she was his. She was beautiful and he was very pleased to be able to call her his girlfriend.

“You saw me dolled up once” Alexis returned “Surely that is enough for you” she teased.

Cristiano shook his head. “You look too beautiful like this for once to be enough” he murmured, his lips tracing the line of her neck before he placed a kiss on her shoulder “Although, you do look beautiful every time I look at you” he added, working his way back up to press a kiss against her jaw.

Alexis shivered a little before she looked up at him. “What has gotten into you?” she whispered gently, her blue eyes looking up into his.

Cristiano shrugged. “Can’t a guy just fawn over his pretty girlfriend?” he quipped with a grin.

“He can, and trust me, I am not complaining, but you just seem really odd in the last week or so. Are you OK?” she mused, her blue eyes scanning his face.

Cristiano nodded his head. “I am fine” he mused “Just thinking about us” he added.

Alexis smiled. “And what do you think about?” she teased, her arms softly wrapping around his neck.

“Right now, I am thinking that I need to detangle myself from your lovely arms so that we don’t lose our table” he murmured. It wasn’t a whole lie, he didn’t want to lose their table, but his mind was focussed elsewhere. He felt bad, lying to Hector and denying Alexis a chance at a job was easily one of the worst things he had done for a while, but he doubted he would change it. If he told Hector that he had lied, the chances were that the Spaniard would inform Alexis of it and then she would hate Cristiano for it.

“Aww” Alexis murmured “And I was just enjoying the embrace too” she teased.

Cristiano rolled his eyes. “Well, I had to pull a few strings to get this table” he murmured.

Alexis snorted. “Pull some strings?” she mused “Have you checked your identity recently?” she teased.

“Come on” he murmured, wrapping his jacket around his body before he extended his hand to her.

Alexis giggled. “You’re so cute when you are pouting” she grinned.

“This place is far nicer than any place I have been before” Alexis noted as she rested back into her chair, her blue eyes roaming around the fancy Italian restaurant that Cristiano had picked for their dinner date. It wasn’t her usual type of food, Alexis tended to favour anything that came with a side of chips or potato wedges, but she wasn’t about to complain. The ambience as well as the food was wonderful and she had to admit she liked it.

“I was dubious” Cristiano replied, sipping on his glass of wine “It was a 50/50 shot as to whether you would like it or not. I know you hate things that are too fancy” he noted, a grin on his face.

Alexis nodded. “Well remembered, mi amor” she mused.

“I couldn’t exactly forget” Cristiano returned with a small laugh “You yelled at me for 50 minutes after I bought you a couple of expensive flower bouquets” he added.

Alexis rolled her eyes. “You were only buying me flowers to get back into my pants” she quipped.

“Once I had been there once, I couldn’t resist trying to get back” he noted with a grin “You were quite spectacular on our first night together from what I remember” he added lowly.

Alexis blushed a little, something which made him smile. “You’re cute” he murmured.

“And you’re trying to get into my pants again” she returned, her blue eyes peeking up at him.

Cristiano shrugged nonchalantly. “Perhaps” he noted.

Alexis went to offer a retort, but was stopped when someone approached the table, causing her to look up. “Mr Alvarez” she mused, her blue eyes glancing up at Hector “It is nice to see you” she added.

Cristiano glanced up at the other man and closed his eyes, hoping that Hector wouldn’t say a word about the offer he had turned down on Alexis’ behalf.

“And you Miss Moreno, thought I am a little surprised to see you with Cristiano. He said that you had broken up” Hector mused.

Alexis tilted her head. “We haven’t broken up” she mused, a confused frown on her face.

“Oh” Hector noted “Well, I have an offer of employment if you are still looking” he noted, pulling a card out of his pocket “Take this, and give me a call. I have a contact that is very excited about meeting you” he added.

Alexis nodded. “Gracias” she smiled.

Hector waved a hand before he padded away from the couple, allowing Alexis the chance to turn back to look at Cristiano who looked decidedly sheepish. Alexis noted the look on his face and shook her head. “You ass” she snapped before she pushed back her chair, gathering her coat and storming for the restaurant.

Cristiano watched after her helplessly before he dropped his head.

He knew whatever was to come next could not have been good for him.
