The Disappearance of Emily Blake

Chapter 1

Emily thought about what she was going to wear today while staring at herself in her mirror. She had a thin figure with dark red hair and green eyes. She was pale as snow. biting her lip she decided on just jeans and a t shirt with a jacket. Getting dressed she heard her mother from down stairs yelling her name, "Emily, hurry or I am leaving without you!" Emily rolled her eyes and sighed. She grabbed her backpack and headed downstairs. "You're going to make me late for work kid" her mother told her. "Sorry." She apologized. "Come on, out the door. Now." Her mother ordered. Emily opened the door and headed to the car. Her mother unlocked the door and got in. Emily did not like how her mother treated her. It was like she treated her with disgust. She had some of her mothers features. Red hair, freckles, even her figure. The one thing she did not have of her mother were her eyes. She had her fathers eyes. Her father died in a car accident a few years ago and that changed her mother completely. Her mother used to be so happy and likable, now her mother has the look of despite. Entering the car, she heard her mother start it. Putting on her seat belt on, her mother backs out of the drive way. It was a short ride to her school. Her mother always stopped a few blocks away so she wouldn't have to deal with the school traffic in the morning. Getting out of the car, she looked behind her to tell her mother bye and love you, but before she could her mother drove away. "I love you too Mommy" Emily whispered to herself. She put her ear buds in and started walking. She started looking up at the birds and started wondering where they were going. She shrugged and looked down. Walking up the stairs to the school door she heard the warning bell go off. She only had two minutes to get to class. She rushed to her Lit class which was all the way in the other end of the school. Emily entered the room as soon as the late bell rang. Her teacher, Mrs. Felton, looked at her from her desk, "lucky for you, you made it in time. Take a seat Ms. Blake." She told Emily. Emily nodded, "yes ma'am." Since she was a little late all the back seats were taken. She had no choice but to sit up front near Mrs. Felton's desk. "Okay class, what all do you know about Shakespeare?" Mrs. Felton asked. No one answered. "Seriously, you guys are Seniors in high school and you don't know who William Shakespeare is?" She said in disbelief. She rubbed her temples. Her curly brown hair moving along with it. "Alright, open your textbooks to page two-thirty three." She said as she sat down in a chair. "I want you to read from page two-thirty three to two-fifty." everyone did as they were told. Her next hour was art so it was pretty easy for her. Her third hour however was gym and she hated it. Emily walked through the gym doors and to the changing rooms. She grabbed her clothes from her locker and went to the restroom stall to get changed. Emily was very insecure about her body. Walking out of the stall she ran into Britney Lopez. One of the popular girls at Emerson High. "Well well, look what we have here. Emily Wemily" Britney said in a childlike tone. "Don't like getting dressed in front of us big girls?" She asked. Emily ignored her and walked away. She can hear Britney laughing on her way out. As she walked back into the gym, "Emily Blake?" The gym teacher said looking for her. "I'm here, Coach Daniels." She responded. "Glad to have you Emily" he smiled at her. She smiled back, "Thanks." "Alright class, since today is your first day back from fall break so I know all of you didn't exercise or anything so I'm giving you a free day." Everybody cheered. "However..." he continued. "Tomorrow you guys better be ready because I'm making you work hard" he said. Then everyone groaned. Coach Daniels smiled. "Love the sound of that." He walked away blowing his whistle. "Alright ladies, go for it". Everyone wanted to play basketball so She decided to just walk around the basketball court. "Emily, watch out!" She heard Coach Daniels yell. She turned around and got hit in the face with a basketball. Emily fell onto the floor. Coach Daniels ran to help her up. "Are you okay?" Coach Daniels asked. "Just get me out of here, please." Emily begged. Coach Daniels nodded. "Alright everyone continue what you are doing. Except for you Brittany. You run laps until I say otherwise. Move it!" Coach Daniels yelled. He helped Emily up. "Thank you Coach Daniels" Emily said. "Don't worry about hun. It's my job, you are under my supervision and I have to take care of you" He said and smiled down at her. Emily thought that was nice of him, he did not have to do this, but he is. Emily smiled. "Come on, lets get you to the office so you can go home. Although, you might want to check in at the emergency room and make sure you don't have a concussion. It looked like the ball hit you pretty hard." He said. Emily nodded and looked down. "You don't talk much do you?" he asked. Emily shook her head. "It's alright. I never talked much when I was your age too." He confessed. "I was always quiet and shy and I was a very personal person." Emily looked up at him. "What happened?" Emily asked. Coach Daniels laughed. "Just started believing in myself and gaining confidence. I always felt like I was invisible, and I didn't mind that. But I knew that I would have to grow out of that." He said. "I remember reading a book. I can't for the life of me remember what the name of it was, but there was this kid and he was just like us. He kept to himself, never said a word to anyone and didn't mind it. Until he started to feel lonely. He wondered if anyone would miss him if he was gone. So he did it." He finished. "Did what? What did he do?" Emily looked at him with curiosity. "He disappeared." That was it. That is what Emily had to do. She looked up at him and grinned. "So he just disappeared? Just like that? Where did he go?" Emily asked. "Good question. The only thing he mentioned was a tree. Somewhere here in Nevada I think. Said it was the biggest tree he could lay his eyes on. He knew that was where he needed to be until everyone or if anyone started looking for him." Coach Daniels said. "Did anyone look for him?" Emily asked. Coach Daniels started to speak but was interrupted by the nurse. "Oh my dear lord!" The nurse exclaimed. "What happened to your head, my dear?" She asked Emily. Emily had a huge bump on her head where the ball hit her. "A student thought it would be funny and throw the ball in her face." Coach Daniels told the nurse. "Oh my god." She gasped. "Well come on Hun, I'll get you an ice pack and we will get your mother on the phone." She told Emily as she reached for her. Emily looked back at Coach Daniels and waved. Coach Daniels smiled and waved back then turned around and headed back to the gym. Entering the the nurses room, she sat Emily down in a chair next to her desk. "Her Hun, put this on your head." The nurse handed her an ice pack. "I'm just gonna call your mom real quick sweetie." She said to her. Emily looking at the fragile, old lady did what she was told. "Yes, Mrs. Blake? This is Nurse Robertson from Emerson High. I'm afraid your daughter was hurt today in gym. She was hit in the head with a ball by another student. She is fine, she is in my office with an ice pack on her head at the moment, but I would recommend that you come and check her out." Nurse Robertson finished. Emily heard her mother on the end of the phone faintly. She did not sound to happy. Emily sighed. Nurse Robertson hung up the phone and turned to Emily. "Ms. Blake, your mother is on her way. It may take her a minute or two but she will be here." She assured Emily. Emily nodded. Hours passed and her mother still had not come to pick her up. It was nearing six o'clock, school had been over three hours ago and still nothing. Nurse Robertson came into the room, "Honey are you feeling better?" she asked. Emily nodded, "Yes, I feel fine. I'll just walk home. I don't live that far from here." Emily said as she picked up her backpack and put the ice pack in the trash. "Thank you for waiting here with me." Emily said and left feeling like she was just stabbed in the heart. Emily headed straight home.
