Sidewalk Walker

With My Sleek Shoes

I took a walk today and examined the sidewalk;

Lots of stuck gum that was pink or white, and turned black with age.

Mustard and ketchup stains, meaning someone dropped their hot dog or sausage from the stand.

The distinction of new tar from the old.

Long forgotten, but once useful, spray paint for construction work.

Pebbles and sediments and sand.

A random pothole that nearly made me trip.

Some ants carrying a piece of cereal or a potato chip.

The tips of people's shoes as they walked on by.

Seagull and dog feces all smudged into the crevices of the ground.

A candy wrapper that finally stopped being blown away, and was spinning in a puddle.

An occasional leaf teetering across with the little ticking sound it makes.

Last week's newspaper matted with the humidity and stained by footprints.

Little black smudges that came from snubbed-out cigarettes.

Cracks to avoid as to not break my mother's back if I were to step on them.

Oh, a lucky penny.

Something like a pigeon's feather, or maybe it belonged to a dove.

That was all.

- Sincerely,
Matheus.

So, I haven't written anything in a couple of months, and there's a kid in my Earth Science class named Matheus... And I like his name.

Yeah.
