We Might Just Be

40: My Love & My Future

“How do you want to go about announcing this?” Imelda posed as she watched Gerard pack his bag, preparing to leave for the training ground ahead of a trip to Madrid for the Clasico. It had been a few weeks since the incident with Antonio and, other than a few biting messages from Maria claiming that Imelda didn’t want her happy, things were relatively calm, something which pleased Imelda. Things were progressing nicely for her, she was coming up on 16 weeks pregnant, and the last thing she wanted was to find herself embroiled in a fight with her sister and Antonio. The other couple were a problem that Imelda didn’t want to deal with, especially whilst she was pregnant.

Gerard, who had proceeded to zip up his bag, smiled. “I am pretty sure that people already know, Im, you have quite the bump” he noted, his hand gesturing to the small round bump that was starting to become visible in everything that Imelda wore. He liked it, seeing the bump was a reminder of the joyful event that was due to take place in just over 5 months, and he couldn’t quite believe that he had almost passed it up. Seeing the bump grow was a wonderful sight and he knew now that he would have kicked himself forever if he hadn’t have come back.

Imelda nodded. “I know that, but Thalia keeps sending me all sorts of messages, insisting that we have to make some sort of announcement. I keep telling her that it is stupid but she insists that if I don’t do it, she is going to steal the scan picture that I gave to my mother and do it herself” she explained. It was a stupid idea, people were already pretty sure that Imelda was pregnant, but Thalia was insistent. She and Cesc had announced that Eliza was carrying their baby via the midfielder’s social media accounts and seemed intent on Imelda doing something similar.

“Im, I don’t think we need to make a big deal out of this” Gerard quipped “You’re already carrying a bump, one that will only get bigger, and then, in five months, we will have a baby, something which will make it pretty obvious that you were pregnant” he teased, setting his bag down on the floor before he sat down beside Imelda, rubbing her growing bump tenderly.

Imelda nodded. “I agree” she commented “But I don’t want Thalia making it for us” she added, her eyes gently peeking up at him.

Gerard noted her look and smiled, kissing her gently. “We can do it if you want to, Immy” he whispered between lights kisses “I can put something out if that is what you want” he added, gently pulling back and brushing the dark hair off of her face. She was stunning, especially with her slight pregnancy glow, and a couple of times he found himself a little lost in looking at her, still in awe of her even despite the nearly 7 months that they had been dating.

Imelda peeked at him shyly. “I don’t want anything major” she noted.

Gerard smiled. “I have an idea, just wait here for a moment” he announced, pecking her cheek affectionately before he skidded out of the bedroom, making Imelda shake her head a little. He was simply adorable when he wanted to be.

“Sticky tape?” Imelda noted, noting the roll of tape that sat in her boyfriend’s hands as he stepped back into their bedroom, a grin on his face.

“I don’t see you coming up with a cuter way of announcing this Immy” Gerard teased, stepping over to her.

“And what exactly is your way?” Imelda quipped, her green eyes watching him curiously.

“Well, I was thinking I could tape this to your bump” he noted, holding up the scan picture that they had kept for themselves. “And then I would write something cute underneath a picture of us” he added, offering her a wide smile that made Imelda giggle.

“You sound like you have had that planned for a while” she noted, taking the tape out of his hand.

“I figured that at some point we would have to confirm it, I have spent a little while coming up with a way to do it” he explained with a little shrug “I don’t want to kick up a fuss, but it would be nice to get it out there. A few of the guys keep asking” he noted with a small eye roll.

Imelda shook her head. “Why didn’t you just tell them?” she posed.

“Because you were only 10 or so weeks gone and I didn’t want to jinx it” he quipped “But now you are 16 weeks gone and Marcos keeps insisting that everything is perfect, I feel more comfortable with this” he noted, pulling a strand of tape across her stomach to attach the picture.

Imelda watched him for a second before she lifted her hand, gently brushing the tips of her fingers over his cheek. “You are so much more confident than when I first told you about this” she murmured, her green eyes watching him gently as he placed the second tape strip against her skin.

Gerard smiled. “I am still scared, Im, there is still a lot that we have to deal with. But now I look at that bump and I think that it might all be worth it in the end. I want to do this and once I figured that out, it made me feel better than I did when you told me” he explained, dropping a little kiss on her stomach.

“I am glad you came back” she whispered “I know I said I would do it by myself, but that thought scared the life out of me. I don’t think I could do it without you” she admitted gently.

Gerard smiled and kissed her stomach again before he sat her up, settling on the bed beside her. “You’re not going to have to do it without me, Immy” he whispered, holding his phone out ahead of them “You got me” he noted.

Imelda giggled and kissed his cheek as he snapped the picture, posting it with the simple caption ‘mi amor y mi futuro’.
