We Might Just Be

81: She’s Family, He’s A Moron

“I am going to kill him” Imelda muttered as she padded into her bedroom, pushing the door closed in an attempt to stop Thalia overhearing. She was furious, if Thalia had been telling the truth, then Cesc was awful and Imelda couldn’t quite believe she hadn’t seen it. Cesc had always struck her as the sweetest and nicest guy and to know that there was a chance that he had stepped out on Thalia made Imelda want to throttle him. He was supposed to love her sister, not cheat on her without a second thought.

Gerard, who had just settled Theo down for his nap, sighed. “We don’t know the full story, Im, and until we do, we should probably refrain from murdering Cesc. He might be a moron, but we should give him the benefit of the doubt until Thalia is coherent enough to explain” he explained gently. He was angry, he couldn’t believe that there was even a chance that Cesc could have cheated on Thalia, but he knew that they had to wait before they reacted. There was a chance that Thalia had gotten the facts wrong and until they were sure, they needed to be calm. There was no good in starting a fight for no good reason.

Imelda nodded. “You’re right” she mumbled as she fell into the bed “But I still want the chance to hit him. I can’t believe that there is even a chance that he’s done this to her. I thought they were so in love” she mumbled.

Gerard shrugged. “Some people are just good liars” he commented as he moved to lay down beside Imelda, his arm wrapping around her waist and pulling her a little closer.

Imelda nodded. “I thought they were perfect” she mumbled, resting her head against his chest.

“I thought so too” Gerard murmured “And if Cesc has done this, then I will deal with him, not you or Lia. No one hurts my family” he muttered.

Imelda sat up a little. “Your family?” she quipped.

Gerard’s cheeks warmed. “Well, uh, you guys kind of are. I mean…you and Theo…”

Imelda’s soft laughter cut off his rambling. “You’re just too cute sometimes” she murmured before she leant up, kissing him gently. Gerard smiled into it and moved to deepen the kiss, only to pull away as the bedroom door swung open, allowing Thalia to step inside, tears still in her eyes.

“Are you two busy?” she murmured.

“Of course not” Imelda returned as she pulled herself a little unwillingly out of Gerard’s embrace “Are you OK?” she pressed.

Thalia shook her head. “I thought he was the prince charming, Immy” she murmured “I thought we were happy. How could he do this?” she whimpered, gently sitting at the foot of the bed.

“Lia, what happened?” Imelda whispered as she sat up, gently rubbing her sister’s back.

“After you took Ella out, I cooked us lunch and got dressed up. I wanted to make him feel special, but before we could do anything, I smelled some other girl’s perfume on his collar. He tried to play it off as yours, Im, he tried to convince me that you had left it on him when you’d hugged this morning, but I know you and I know the scent you wear. He lied and when I called him out on it, he crumbled. He admitted that he had been seeing another girl, Delilah, who works for Chelsea as Mourinho’s secretary. They’ve been fucking for months and he didn’t even seem to feel sorry about it. If anything, he seemed relieved” she whimpered.

Imelda’s heart broke a little. She had never heard her sister so distant or broken before.

Gerard, who noted the look on Imelda’s face, shook his head. “I will kill him” he muttered.

“Gerard” Imelda muttered.

“No” he returned “If he thinks he can do that to her, then he has another thing coming. She’s my friend, Immy, soon to be my sister, and I am not going to let him get away with treating her like shit just because he is my friend. I know you would do the same if someone cheated on my brother, so why should I be any different just because it is Cesc?” he murmured.

“Because it isn’t going to make it better” Imelda murmured, her hand still rubbing circles into Thalia’s back.

“You seemed to think it would when you were going to kill him” Gerard mumbled.

“You will deal with him” Imelda murmured “But we aren’t going to sound him out or anything. If he comes back, you will deal with him and I will let you, but right now, my sister needs us” she murmured.

Gerard sighed. “I am sorry, Lia” he murmured.

Thalia shook her head. “I am sorry that this ruined your trip. We were supposed to celebrate the New Year, not mope over my husband being a moron” she whimpered.

“Don’t worry about that” Gerard murmured.

“I feel stupid” Thalia murmured.

“You’re not stupid” Gerard comforted “He is. You’re a great girl, Lia, and if he can’t see it, then he is an idiot. He had it made with you and Ella and I am sorry that he did this to you” he mused.

Imelda, who was sat beside him, offered him a little smile. She was a little amazed that he was moving to comfort Thalia, a little part of her thought that he might try and fight Cesc’s corner. “She’s family, Immy” Gerard cooed as he noted the fond look on his girlfriend’s face.

“I know, but still I am a little surprised” she cooed.

Gerard shrugged. “Even I can’t defend what he has done to her. I love Cesc like a brother, but that doesn’t make it OK. Lia’s family and Cesc is an idiot and that isn’t something that it going to change” he mused gently.

Imelda smiled at him and rested her head against his shoulder, hugging him a little closer as Thalia tried to gather herself together. “I am going to get something to eat. Do you two want anything?” she croaked.

Imelda shook her head and watched her sister out of the room before she turned to Gerard. “I need to stay here for a while” she murmured.

Gerard just nodded his head. He hadn’t expected anything less.
