Rules of Engagement

Chapter Two

I didn't know much of Carter on the night that we first properly met. It had been one of those nights I had been reluctantly dragged along to. For this small town pub, it had be rather busy that night. My friends and I started with dinner at the back bar.
"Remember that time all the boys threw Harper in the pool on her birthday" Danny laughed,
"That was my only school uniform and it was a Monday" I laughed back,
"Wasn't it your idea?" Sadie asked Danny,
"No!" She exclaimed back, "Maybe" She smiled devilishly,
"Highlight of my college years" I sarcastically remarked,
"Oh c'mon, it wasn't all that bad was it?" Sadie asked,
I laughed too, "No, it wasn't too bad"

The chat over dinner mostly consisted on reminiscent moments. Like the time Sadie gave Frank a blowjob in the boys toilet, and the moment Danny spewed in her school speech. Or the many times that Frank and Sadie broke up and the many times I was single. Actually, my whole college life consisted of me being single. Not that I cared that much about it, at least that way my adventurous sex stories wouldn't be brought up years later in a pub bar.

"Okay, lets be honest though, between Frank and Carter, who had the biggest?" Danny asked,
"You can't say Frank just because he's your fiancé now" I instructed,
"That's hardly fair" Sadie laughed,
"Well?" Danny questioned,
"Frank, and not because he's my fiancé, but because they are both remarkably the same size but advantage to Frank because at least he knows how to use it" She joked.
"Speaking of" Danny interrupted as Frank and Carter entered the back bar,

"How's it going ladies?" Frank said sitting in Sadies lap,
"We were all just talking about you" Danny said as I awkwardly sat,
"Nice things I hope" Frank said,
"I didn't think nice could be associated with you Frank" Carter joked,
"Neither did I" Sadie teased,
"C'mon, we've got a round of shots at the bar" Frank said pulling Sadie out of her chair,
"I don't think I'll have this round" I said, knowing well enough when to stop drinking,
"C'mon, live a little" Carter egged, nudging me in the shoulder.
Our eyes locked in a split minute because of the surprise I had from Carter even talking to me. I gave him a shy smile,
"Fine" I said as I roll my eyes.

I fall behind the group as they energetically line up at the bar,
"C'mon" Sadie says pulling me to her side, "this is yours" she says handing me a shot glass filled with black liquor,
"What is it?"
"It doesn't matter" She says, throwing her head back and downing the shot. Unwillingly I do the same and it sets the tone for the night. The three of us girl find a table to sit at as we drink to our hearts content. One drink, two drinks, three drinks. The more and more liquor I drink, the more confidence I grow. I start doing things I wouldn't normally do as the conservative girl I am. It's now me who is singing everyone at the bar to take shots. My head feels heavy but my heart feels warm. Why didn't I do this shit often?

After a couple of hours had passed, the patron decided to close the pub, but we had no plan on finishing for the night.
"My house, no, no's" Danny mumbled in a thick speech. And she grabbed my hand and pulled me to her side. With our arms interlocked we laughed uncontrollably strolling down the street. The lamps shined a burnt orange as it glistened off the wet concrete. The scuffs of our shoes echoed along the pavement. Sadie and Frank latched onto each other like the alcohol had bound them with invisible rope while it gave me this new found confidence.
