I'm the Last One That You'll Ever Remember

Chapter 140: Who Is That Deadman?

Frank shouldn't be hiding at the top of the stairs prying in on his baby daddy and his little brother disputing over personal affairs, but damnit he couldn't help himself. Today had taken a turn for the worst when his family was about to head out on a lovely day brimming with adventures for the kids when a pounding knock on their front door destroyed it all. Whoever decided to drop in unannounced seemed to be in drastic demand to be spoken to, and Gerard rapidly took charge of the situation. Low and behold, their caller was none other than his little brother, Michael, or as Frank knew him, Kobra, leader of the Killjoys. After much dismay and alarm, Gerard requested Frank to take the kids upstairs and remain there. He hadn't wanted to comply at the time, he'd rather have called the cops on Michael instead, but Gerard demanded him to put his faith in him and...perhaps foolishly, he did. He took the kids and went upstairs, but hadn't remained there. Right now, he was jolting back at Michael's bellowing that reverberated loudly throughout his home.

And frightened baby Jasiah, who's face scrunched up in offense before he laid his cheek against Frank's chest and began to wail emphatically. Both of the Way brothers twisted their heads in his direction, finally catching sight of him and grasping that he'd been eavesdropping on them. Cursing to himself at his luck, Frank cooed and rocked his baby in his arms instead of taking off in a spurt with him back upstairs. He wouldn't be intimidated by this Kobra in his own home. But his disposition soon reduced when he saw the rage rocketing in Gerard's eyes. Presuming that rage to be directed at him, Frank gulped as he stared timidly down at the lover he had defied.

But Gerard wasn't enraged with Frank at all. What he was enraged at was his brother startling his son into adhering to his mother in fear of the fuss that had started between them. Growling, Gerard snatched a handful of his brother's shirt, and wrenched him towards him, not giving him a chance to even consider accosting his Black Opal and their child. “Listen here, Michael, and listen well. You either lower your voice down from this moment forward and calm the fuck down, or I'll lodge my foot up your ass when I throw you out, got it?”

Brassy, Michael reached out to grasp Gerard's shirt and jerk him even closer so they're almost nose to nose. They glared savagely at each other. “Try me, and you'll find YOU being the one thrown to the fucking curb instead!”

“Gerard!” Frank called down to him with worry, having heard little of their exchange. Were they about to fight each other? He could only pray they were just flinging inconsequential threats to startle the other.

“I need your help in finding Sable.” Michael began just as soon as Frank's sentence ended. This was now beginning to feel like two people clashing for Gerard's attention, him and his brother's lover boy. Michael will be damned if he'd lose to that instigator.

“I wouldn't know where to begin.” Gerard shook his head, still scowling back at his brother. “I have no clue where she is! She never mentioned going anywhere but back to you the last time I saw her.”

“Gerard!” Frank called again, this time more resolutely. Jasiah was still a bit fussy, but was now seeking his daddy's attention, bending back as far as he could go and stretching out his chubby arms towards him.

“Not to mention she's blocked all of our numbers from her phone.” Michael combined, again speaking right after Frank, but this time with the motive of maintaining tight on his brother's attention. “We're having trouble tracking her down.”

“Okay, and?” Gerard ventured on, not getting why his brother came to him for help. He wasn't tech savvy or anything, so what function was he meant to serve. “It's not like I can pinpoint her location through my cell phone.

”No, but she didn't block you, I'm certain of it. I'm gonna need your phone, and...” Michael wavered for a minute. “And I'm gonna need your tracking expertise to find her since you were able to locate your missing Black Opal in such an impressively short amount of time.”

Hesitating on answering, Gerard deliberated over what he'd been told thus far. Sable had mysteriously gone missing sometime after that night she left him to return to the Killjoys and confess to his brother that she was pregnant with his baby. Kobra hadn't seen her since his temper tantrum which most likely startled her off. Now, he was required to track her down and find her. As much as Gerard didn't want anymore engagement with the Killjoys, this mission was vital. This was Sable. He cared deeply for that girl like he would a sister. The thought of her alone out there in the world somewhere toting his future baby niece or nephew didn't sit well in his stomach. But if he left to abet his brother in locating her, how would Frank feel? Would he let him come back to him when the mission was complete and continue their relationship, or would that be the end of them? A piercing fear like the blade of a sword cut into his heart with such a profound volume of pain that it had him sweating in a panic at what he could lose on both ends.

“GERARD!” Frank shouted down to him, not liking the way they were secretly conversing with each other. He had a dreadful feeling about the reason Michael dropped in out of nowhere. Plus, now he knew where they lived, and had seen their kid's faces. Not that he knew that they were his and Gerard's kids, but still, the fact that he had simply seen them was horrible to him. He needed his man to be there at his side, holding him, but he was too busy probably getting browbeaten to rejoin the dark side all over again. “GERARD!

”Gerard was brought back when his brother whisked around so rapidly to snap back at his baby mama. Not about to let a sacrilegious word come out of his mouth, the hand fisted in Michael's shirt heaved the younger sibling up into the air, cutting him off from speaking ill. Narrowing his eyes on Michael's face, Gerard growled. “Do NOT address my Black Opal, or I'll be using your corpse as kindling for S'mores later on tonight in my backyard!” Dumping his brother back onto his unstable feet, Gerard's light brown eyes soften as they settle on his lover standing at the top of the stairs with a fussy Jasiah reaching out towards him. “It's alright, baby, everything is just fine.”

Frank didn't believe him. Not just because Michael was still there in the protected haven of their home and Gerard wouldn't allow him to call the police on him, but also because the longer he was around Gerard, the quicker his baby daddy was converting right before his eyes back into Poison of the Killjoys. The hasty controlled anger, the super strength and the strict seriousness he manifested hadn't been there before his brother showed up and it was daunting...not to mention sexy. Yeah, definitely don't mention that. Frank cursed his hormones for taking a severe situation such as the one they're in and finding something sexually arousing about it. He couldn't take himself seriously these days.

Turning back to look at his brother over his shoulder who was peering too attentively at Jasiah in contemplation, Gerard reported his choice. “If I help you, Mikey, it'll only be for Sable and my future niece or nephew. Not you, because you don't deserve that extraordinary woman who'd do anything for you even if it cost her her life.”

“Whatever, man.” Michael griped, turning away from him to act as if he was monitoring Frank's place when in reality he didn't want to display the emotions he'd been combating since she disappeared. Those were only for him to see.

Rolling his eyes at his little brother's childish response, Gerard went on even though his words would fall on deaf ears. “Don't ‘whatever’ me! You whatever me, you whatever her! You need to start embracing the love she has to give you, Michael. Stop shoving it back in her face every single time. Not everyone is gonna stick around forever with that kind of approach, not when there is another person out there that could cherish them better.”

At the image of Sable leaving him for another man came to the limelight, Michael spiraled around and strode back to his brother. The jealousy in him was making him insane, and most surely made him look at that way too because he was now standing toe-to-toe with his brother again looking seconds away from punching his lights out. “Oh yeah? And who is that deadman gonna be? You?”

Too taken aback by his brother's allegation to push him back, Gerard glared at him and snapped. “What the hell are you insinuating?”
