I'm the Last One That You'll Ever Remember

Chapter 145: Remedy My Mistake

When Masika solicited Mikey to go into depth as to why he had saddened her with meaningless profane insults and hollow threats, he was more than ready to hurl all his cards on the table in gaining her back. After she just told him that their relationship was over, Mikey swore he heard his heart beat it's last and final thump. Appearing impassive, he was now in the battle for his life to win back not only his love, but his will to live again. “I was completely bewitched by you when I first saw you. I know I didn’t seem like that at the time, but that moment was another one of my renowned vacant looks where you can’t tell what I’m feeling or thinking. I was concerned my interest in having you for myself would show when I threatened to castrate Cinnamon right there on the living room floor when he achieved you as his prize.”

Frowning in profound thought, Masika faintly recalled that day when she was displayed in some undisclosed bunker out in the middle of nowhere before a throng of people in colorful clothes and deadly weapons strapped on their forms. She had forgotten she had been meant for Cinnamon originally before the man that was their leader declared from where he comfortably reclined on the couch to collect her as his own. Soon after that she fell in love with the man, and sought to receive his love by becoming one of his crew...only that didn’t seem to make much of a difference. Yes, she wasn’t shackled anymore or pestered with threats on her life, but Kobra wasn’t anywhere close to thawing anywhere outside of his bed.

“I told myself that I could still keep you for myself, regardless of the feelings I was developing for you, if I simply overlooked the sensations. In due time, those feelings would have to go away if you don’t bring light to them. So I did just that. I kept them entombed and sealed away deep inside no matter how hard you made it for me.” Mikey went on, shaking his head when he examined his erroneous way of thinking. “But it didn’t go away. The feelings just grew stronger to the point where I couldn’t keep professing they never existed when they extended like a virus to every vein and nerve within me. I was dominated by it, and was hanging on by a thread of self-control until now.”

Masika was mute for a long time as well as the Way brother who took everything in from a distance by the front door. Something as extraordinary as having the person you loved most to love you just as vigorously back was a dream come true for anyone. She herself had craved it for so long even when it was evident her love would never be returned. Now, all of a sudden the man she loved most in all the world reciprocate her feelings? It was too good to be true...but too incredible to refuse. Raising her eyes from her lap, she repeated. “You love me, Michael? Truly love me?”

“I truly love you, Masika. I’ve never been alive until you penetrated my life. It had just been dark shadows and death before you.” Mikey upheld passionately, not being able to keep away as he strode over to her to sit right in front of her on the edge of the bed. Taking both of her hands in his, his thumb stroked the smooth skin of the back of her hand as he stared deeply into her eyes. “I understand I handled everything badly! You, the baby, everything! I fucked up and it pissed me off that I can’t simply take it back and delete what happened between us last. It's a lame excuse, but I’d never been in love before, nowhere close to this excessive all-consuming degree. It genuinely frightened and depressed the shit out of me because of how overpowering it was becoming in my daily life. I couldn't sit, sleep, eat, cough, or breath without thinking of you. I used to think I obsessed over Gerard to the extreme in order to shelter him from being taken away from me too, but that couldn’t even hold a candle to how obsessed I was swiftly becoming over you.”

Masika held up a hand to halt him before he could proceed. He’d lost her at the word’ depressed’ and she needed to know why he felt that deep of an emotion to their love. “Wait, you were depressed? But why? Was loving me that unsettling for you?”

“The only reason it was was because I couldn’t openly show it the way I wanted to. I couldn’t be me.” Mikey explained, raising her hands to his lips to lavish kisses on them. “If I did, my feelings would run rampant for everyone to see and I couldn’t let that happen. I’ve always had to be the leader of the KIlljoys, and had to look out for everyone else that was just like Gerard. The only time I’d ever put my selfish needs above another was when I swiped you as my prize. As you can see you have become much more than just a trophy to me. I didn’t want to keep you chained to my bed every day, play mind games, starve you, and use your body to get off. I found myself needing to equip the basic human requirements for you, to keep you preserved from any monsters like me, and to selflessly cherish every inch of your body from head to toe without any consideration for satiating my own.”

“Gross.” Gerard grumbled beneath his breath from where he leaned against the motel door with his arms crossed over his chest. He grimaced at his brother’s poetic words about sleeping with Masika. He didn’t need to know how his brother got down in bed. He’d rather get down in his own bed with his Frankie instead.

“Michael Way.” Masika whispered, reaching out to lay a hand on his cheek. Her brown orbs twinkled with hope mingled with fear as she pleaded. “I need you to be real about what you’re saying to me right now. Because if you’re not, I swear to god all you’re doing is killing me more and more.”

Setting his hand over hers, Mikey shifted his face towards her palm and pressed a lingering kiss to it, his eyes never leaving hers. “I swear I’m being honest with you, Masika. If you still doubt me, then perhaps I can convince you by going over to Gerard and cutting his throat to show my undying love for you.”

“CUT WHO!?” Gerard snarled from across the room, his light brown eyes flashing at the sound of a threat on his life.

Masika burst into a fit of giggles at Gerard’s revival. It was a test to see if he was still listening in as well as to make her laugh and it did the trick. Michael probably didn’t predict it would make her absolve him too, but it did. “No, you don’t have to do anything that drastic to your brother, Michael. I believe you now.”

The grin on Mikey’s face shrank as his eyes inspected her face expectantly. When she didn’t say what he’d anticipated she’d say, he demanded tenderly. “Say it back now.”

Playing dumb, Masika arched a brow at him. “Say what?”

“Tell me you love me.” Mikey simplified, his eyes praying for those words.

“I’ve told you a million times before in the past, Michael, remember?” Masika reminded him with a soft smile.

“I know.” Mikey affirmed that. “But this time will be different. Please.”

Pausing for effect, Masika breathed. “I love you, Michael.”

Grinning now, Mikey replied back. “I love you too, Masika.”

Never thinking she would hear those words come from his lips, Masika declined back into tears. Embarrassingly she tried to cover her tears behind her hands as she rapidly tried to obliterate her tears.

Leaning his forehead against hers, Mikey consoled her. “Shh, baby, it’s okay. You can let it all out, I’m here for you now.”

“B-But...the baby.” Masika managed to weep out behind her hands.

“I know, baby.” Mikey whispered, immersing his arms around her. “I’m going to remedy my mistake for the rest of my life by beginning with this.”

“B-Beginning with what?” Masika whimpered.

Pulling away to look down at her, Mikey asked. “Will you marry me, Masika?”

Masika let out a gasp, her eyes flickering over to Gerard to see him gaping incredulously at his little brother, probably not believing he’d just proposed too. She returned her focus to Mikey. “You mean it? You wanna marry me?”

“I can murder my brother right here and now to prove it you if that’ll help.” Mikey reminded her with a malicious smirk.

With a grin, Gerard welcomed that challenge. “Bring it on, little man!”

Laughing, Masika nodded and embraced her fiance. “Yes, Michael, I will marry you!”
