I'm the Last One That You'll Ever Remember

Chapter 16: Piece of the Prize

Black Opal stayed on his best behavior with his kidnapper, and followed his orders down to the last letter. He had to earn Poison’s trust again so he could escape the moment he let his guard down. Yes, he was planning on escaping again. After a month had passed Frank no longer became scared of the dark room where he was thrown in for four weeks. Even though his fear had faded, Frank made sure to still appear like an obedient slave at all times. He didn’t want Poison to become suspicious of him or his plan.

Poison had enjoyed the past month of calm and peace, but he didn’t allow the good times to cloud his judgement. He had to keep his guards up and remain alert, and that’s what he did. Still, it was nice being able to sleep with an obedient Frank in his arms, and have some short conversations together that didn’t end in tears. There was so much Frank wanted to know about him and the Killjoys, and as much as Poison wanted to tell him everything, he knew that Frank wasn’t ready to hear it yet. Instead, Poison would turn the conversation around so it would be only focused on Frank, but the young boy also wasn’t ready to share information about himself either. From there, their conversations usually settle around music, and Poison’s sketches. They played board games together and watched movies around dinner time. Poison would have his arm around Frank’s shoulders, which only made it a struggle to concentrate on the movie because of how close they were.

As expected, Poison would have to disappear sometimes to tend to ‘business’, and would leave Frank locked in the bedroom by himself. As much as Frank wanted to escape all those times before, he forced himself to calm down and be patient. He knew the perfect opportunity was waiting for him, and he was eager for it to arrive. When the day finally came for him to escape, he was so overcome with emotions he almost burst into happy tears over it.

It all started one morning when Frank had woken up to find Poison sitting on the other side of the bed, without a shirt on. The young boy’s eye trailed over the muscles beneath the pale skin of his kidnapper for a moment while also wondering why he was just sitting there so quietly. He heard Poison take a deep breathe before getting up off the bed and heading to the bathroom. Frank had gotten up afterwards when he heard the shower turn on and sat up on the bed, waiting for Poison to finish. When he finally came out, Frank had looked his way to see him dripping wet with a towel around his waist. Frank let out a gasp and cowered back up the bed where the pillows were and hid his head beneath one. He couldn’t believe that Poison had to gall to come out of his bathroom with nothing but a towel around his waist. He felt both fear and something else that he refused to acknowledge as his cheeks flushed pink. Poison ignored Frank’s odd behavior to search for clean clothes. Once he found some he plopped it on the end of the bed, before looking down at Frank’s hiding form.

“I have business to attend to. You stay up here in your room, do you understand me?” Poison asked, watching Frank nod beneath the pillow before he peeking out. Frank let out a squeak at the sight of Poison still dressed in a towel and hurried back to hide beneath the pillow just in time before Poison took his towel off. Frank’s cheeks were a burning and his breathing was coming in short quick breathes. Poison focused on getting himself dressed before grabbing his bowie knife holster and sliding it onto his belt. Frank peeked out again to see Poison dressed in black jeans, a red sweater with a black skull on the front, and his signature combat boots.

Poison looked over at Frank for a second, his red hair still damp from his shower. “Remember, stay in here.”

Frank nodded quickly, watching him turn to leave the room. He watched as the door was about to shut completely, but was released before it could close all the way. The door was cracked open. Frank jumped out of bed and rushed over to it. He rubbed his eye to make sure his vision wasn’t deceiving him. When he looked again he saw that the door was still cracked open. Did Poison seriously forget to close it, or is this a trap, Frank wondered to himself. As much as he wanted to escape Frank didn’t think it would be a good idea to fall for this probable bait. Frank’s going to have to find another way out instead.

It took an hour and half for Frank to come up with an idea. He had quickly tied together as many sheets and some old curtains that he found in Poison’s closet to make a long rope. Once he was finished he opened the window above the bed and flung it out. He didn’t know if it was long enough for a safe jump to the bottom, but he didn’t have any other option. Frank didn’t know when Poison was going to show up, and he wasn’t about to wait around to find out. Quickly grabbing a backpack from the closet as well as some extra clothes and a small pocket knife, Frank gave himself a minute to collect all his nerves and shun them away, before carefully climbing down the side of the house.

Poison was downstairs with the others at another auction. As usual nothing that was being auctioned held no interest for him, so he ended up spending most of his time leaning against the wall waiting for it all to be over. While looking out the window across from him, Poison noticed something plopping down from above and dangling in front of the glass. Poison’s brows rose as he tilted his head in confusion. What the hell is that, he thought before he saw the familiar figure attempting to safely climb down what he now figured out to be a rope made out of sheets. Poison sighed inwardly as he glared at Frank’s pursuit to escape a second time. Poison should’ve known four weeks in a dark room with no food and only a bucket of shit for company wouldn’t have scared Frank so easily.

As Frank came down the rope, he felt a pair of eyes watching him. He instantly froze and looked through the window to see none other than Poison looking right back at him with his arms crossed and a dark glare on his face that could kill a lion. Frank was caught off guard by the intensity of the glare that his grip had slipped and had caused him to fall. He managed to let out a small scream before crashing to the ground below, resulting in a sharp pain from his ankle. Frank let out another scream as his hand hovered over his wound with the intent on protecting it from anything that might try and touch it.

Everyone in the house stopped talking at once as they looked toward the window where the sound was heard. They each had a look of curiosity and interest on their face. Kobra looked towards his brother only to see him leaving the living room in a haste. Everyone else followed him a few minutes after but kept their distance. It was clear Poison was upset, so they didn’t want to disturb him, yet they were hopeful that the sound belonged to an intruder so they could enjoy a good torture and killing before dinner.

“God, this isn’t going to go well, baby.” Kobra whined, rubbing his temples as the prizes in the room struggled and cried against their restraints on the floor.

“Don’t worry, my love. I’ll go help Poison if he needs it.” Sable promised as she ran outside to find the Killjoys standing a few feet behind Poison.

Frank had been trying to crawl away from the house by using his arms and one of his legs, since he wounded his ankle. Poison was following behind him with a disappointed look on his face while the others watched from afar. “Black Opal, where are you going? You can’t leave now, you have to be punished for disobeying me.” Frank shook his head, not believing he ended up getting himself caught a second time!

Dash stepped forward to meet up with Poison, and the others soon followed behind him. “Hey, Poison, your precious prize is out of bounds. Guess what that means?”

Poison sighed, and stopped following his prize. Frank continued on, hoping that everyone would be too distracted with Dash and Poison to stop him from escaping. Poison turned around after memorizing the direction Frank was headed and was going to keep heading. “What do you want, Rainbow?”

Dash had his knives out, turning them in his hands as he flashed Poison a happy smile. “Oh you know, I want what everyone here wants. A piece of the prize.”

Poison looked around to see Iris, Rouge, and the girls with their weapons of choice out as well. They didn’t have Dash’s look of confidence though, in fact they all looked pretty uncertain about what they were about to do. Poison knew Dash must have been talking to them again about him and Black Opal. Well, if they all wanted to listen to Dash and attempt put their hands on his Black Opal, then they must have already accepted their death wish. Poison unsheathed his knife so loudly, it made the girls take a step back in fear.

Poison studied his clean knife, and checked to make sure it was in its usual sharp condition before he’d start slicing people in two. “If you want him, you’ll have to take me down first.”

Frank’s heart lurched at what Poison had said, but decided to ignore it and keep moving. He was halfway to the woods when he heard the sound of metal clashing together, followed by grunts and cries. Frank looked behind him to see a full blown fight going down. Poison against nine people. Frank felt an immediate concern for Poison’s safety, and it shocked him because he couldn’t quite figure out when he started caring about the guy. The man kidnapped him and was planning to eventually rape him. Shaking his head, Frank forced himself to keep moving onward and forget about the danger Poison was now in.

Poison double punched both Rouge and Iris in the mouth just as Dash came running to tackle him down. Poison bent over before Dash could get to him and flipped Dash completely over so he had landed onto his back on the ground, completely winded. Azure and Canary came running with their axes and swords behind Poison when one of them was kicked in the face and the other one head butted. Poison looked behind him to see Sable with her two Sai’s protecting him from harm.

“What are you doing, Sable?” Poison asked, confused as to why she wasn’t following the rules of the Killjoys.

Sable shrugged. “Oh nothing, just protecting family, is all. Do you mind?”

Poison chuckled and shook his head. “No, I do not.”

Together, they fought off the rest of the Killjoys, giving Frank the perfect chance to escape into the woods.
