I'm the Last One That You'll Ever Remember

Chapter 172: A Plan B In Mind

“Then a daycare might be our only option here.” Frank considered while sitting beside his new fiance outside on the back patio. Surrounded by rain, they were presently discussing their children and where they would have to go now that Frank was almost finished with his maternity leave and Gerard had gotten his first job at a local comic book store. The kids couldn’t be left home alone by themselves nor could they depend on Frank’s busy parents to look after them every day of the week. “Obviously my parents can’t always be here to watch the kids for us because trust me, if they could, Mommy would be the first to terminate her entire career and throw everything she’s ever worked for away without a second thought. I would never forgive myself if she made that kind of sacrifice for us.”

“I’d lose sleep over that too. How about I just cart all four of them with me to work?” Gerard bantered with a broad grin at the crazy idea.

Frank burst out laughing, snuggling his face down into Gerard’s chest through his robe. “Babe, you’d never get anything done with them there, and you’d be out of a job before you even got started!”

“I hate to agree with you there.” Gerard laughed too, swathing his arm around Frank’s neck to pull him closer to receive a kiss on the head. “Still, the idea of hiring a stranger to supervise our kid every day of the week doesn’t make me feel relaxed inside. Blame it on years of being a Killjoy, but...I too have trust issues when it comes to strangers with my kids.”

Sighing, Frank turned his face to the playground his father and Gerard had set up for the kids in the backyard. His hazel eyes browsed the thousands of toys jumbled in the sea of green grass as he ruminated on their predicament. They both had to figure out what would be done with the kids before they set off to work. With his parents out of the question, they were left to trust strangers with their little ones. He didn’t know if parents commonly had a hard time trusting people they didn’t know to look after their children, but he did. It made him shudder that they would have to do this every year their kids entered a new grade as they got older. “God, I can’t imagine how badly we’re going to handle it when they have to actually start school when they get older.”

“I curse the fucking day!” Gerard groaned, leaning his head back against the couch cushion to stare up at the tent that protected the patio furniture from getting sodden by the rain. “Especially if it’s gonna get even harder trusting people with our little ones.”

Frank nodded against his chest and then closed his eyes to listen to the rain. He needed to relax from all this. Devising what to do with their children was taking a toll on his heart. Or perhaps it was his hormones affecting him again. Taking some deep breaths, he began to feel the cold creep in on him even through his comfy robe. Shivering, he lamented with a pout. “Ugh...now it’s getting cold.”

“Autumn is on it’s way.” Gerard praised with an excitement Frank didn’t understand at first. “And that means you’ll be 18 soon, and even sooner my wife.”

“Wife?” Frank repeated in question, his brows furrowing as a smile stretched his lips. He kept his eyes closed to savor the tranquil sound of the rain and Gerard’s voice interlacing.

“Yes, my wife.” Gerard taunted him with a soft nudge. “Why? You don’t want to be called my wife?”

“I’d prefer being your husband.” Frank disclosed, opening his eyes to turn his head up and stare at his fiance. “I mean, if you want you can call me your wife in the bedroom.”

“I’m fine with that.” Gerard shrugged it off blissfully. “Just so long as you have my name and I have yours, that’s all that matters at the end of the day.”

Grinning up at him, Frank gushed. “Awesome, I can’t wait for the day!”

“I second that.” Gerard concurred, leaning his head down to rest it atop of Frank’s. The couple gazed out at the yard and all it’s toys again, drinking in the silence. It wasn’t everyday they got silence. With three kids running around screaming and a wailing baby, the place sounded like a circus majority of the time. Believe it or not, Gerard didn’t mind it at all and actually preferred it. Frank didn’t think he’d like it at first when he became a parent, but found himself enjoying the ruckus of his own kids rather than others.

But Frank didn’t allow him the reticence for too long. At some point the children would be returning from a fun day out with the grandparents, and they would both be too busy being parents to convene again on this dilemma that still needed an answer. Biting his bottom lip, Frank thought hard on their plight before a light bulb finally went off in his head. Sitting forward on the couch, he turned to his right to look up at Gerard. “Okay, I have come up with two solutions to our problem with the kids. You wanna hear em?”

“Spill it, Iero.” Gerard ordered him with a smirk. “What’s our options?”

“Since I work for the state, I can try and request to work from home.” Frank listed the first solution. He held up a finger to hush Gerard when he began to speak. “BUT there is a good chance that it might get rejected and if so we’re back to the drawing board.”

Gerard pondered it with a nod. “Unless we already have a Plan B in mind.”

Frank grimaced a little on the second plan. He’d snatched it out of the blue and decided to give it a shot, but now was regretting it. It was selfish on his part. “Well now that you mention...I’m not so sure about it anymore. I’d basically be doing the very same thing I don’t want to do to my parents.”

“What is it?” Gerard encouraged him, taking his hand in his and stroking his thumb over the back of it.

“I was gonna say we could get my Aunt and Uncle to come back down here to watch the kids for us since my parents are too busy with their own careers, but…” Frank shook his head, wishing to dissolve the idea entirely. “They have their own lives in Pennsylvania!”

Gerard remained silent, contemplating another avenue they could utilize. With brows furrowed, he indicated. “If your parents are too busy to babysit long term, and your Aunt and uncle are living their own lives then maybe your mother has a friend that enjoys kids that we could ask to babysit?”

“She might have. I don’t know all her friends, but if my mother were to recommend one of them I’d probably wouldn’t be so hesitant to accept their help.” Frank admitted, liking the idea of a stranger that was at least familiar with his parents over one that wasn’t. “I trust her judgement in people.”

“So do I.” Gerard seconded. “If you’re alright with it, so am I. I think I’d feel more comfortable with a stranger that one of your parents knew. If you want, we can make it an option.”

“It’s an incredible option, babe!” Frank exalted him before cupping his face in his hands and giving him a deep kiss. He hadn’t expected Gerard to heighten it even further to the ferocity of a makeout, but he should have. When he felt the older man haul him over to straddle his lap, Frank threw his head back and giggled at how predictable his move was.

“Wanna have sex in the rain?” Gerard whispered huskily against his neck while one hand unraveled the tie around his waist so he could part the material and feel his lover’s warm flesh.

“Gee! We shouldn't!” Frank protested amid a fit of giggles as kisses were bestowed over his exposed chest and collar bones. He combed his fingers through Gerard’s black hair longingly.

“We should.” Gerard encouraged, distributing open mouth kisses on his flesh.

Biting his lower lip, Frank fought temptation. “I don’t know, Gee…we might get grass stains.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t let your feet touch the ground.” Gee promised him as he finally undid the tie to Frank’s robe.

Shrugging out of his own robe, Frank began to undo Gerard’s robe next. “We have to make it quick before my parents get back with the kids.”

The couple were naked beneath the robe, and had just made love earlier that morning so Frank didn’t require preparation. As soon as Gerard thrust himself into his tight entrance, the younger man let out a cry of pleasure and threw his head back in ecstacy. Feeling his inner muscles clamp around him, Gerard rose from the patio couch and stepped out into the rain with the young man affixed to him. He took them to the sliding back door and pressed Frank’s back into the cold glass before sending a full thrust into him, watching his passion build up only to become undone for the second time that day.
