I'm the Last One That You'll Ever Remember

Chapter 30: Get Rid Of Him

A month had passed before Kobra had called his brother into his room for a small chat. What he had to say to his brother was very important, and would have been told to him sooner if Sable hadn’t encourage him to wait instead. His older brother had finally gotten laid with his precious Black Opal, and she didn’t want him to ruin the mood. She told him to wait a month, and so he did.

The door opened to reveal Poison with a contented smile on his face. He stepped into the room without permission and took a seat at his little brother’s desk. “What’s up, little brother? What did you want to talk about?”

Guilt began to cloud Kobra’s focus, but he forced himself to say what he had to say. He had to look after the Killjoy’s wellbeing too, not just his brothers’. “Well as you know, we are a group of murdering delinquents and in order for us to stay out of the law’s prison cells, we have to transition from town to town to keep them off our tracks.”

Poison nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I already know that. What, are you saying it’s about time to start moving on now?”

Kobra crossed his arms over his chest to lean against the wall. “Well yeah, actually, that’s exactly where I’m getting at but-“

“Well alright then, we didn’t need to talk privately about that. I’ll tell the others to start packing up for the move.” Poison informed his brother before he got up to head for the bedroom door to leave.

“That’s not all of it, Poison. We’re not done talking here.” Kobra called after him.

Poison halted in his step and looked over his shoulder. “We’re not? Well then what the hell else is there, Kobra?”

“You need to get rid of your Black Opal, he’s not coming with us. He’s caused way too much trouble for me and is a threat to my position as the leader.” Kobra explained as nonchalantly as he could in hopes that his brother wouldn’t catch on to what he just said. Poison was known for his violent temper.

Poison narrowed his eyes at his brother. “What the fuck are you talking about? Frankie hasn’t done anything to you or anyone in this house!”

Kobra sighed, not at all pleased that he would have to go into further detail than he originally want to about this. He should have known his brother would want an explanation for his prize being singled out. “He’s attempted to escape numerous times, and the fact that he’s lived through each of those attempts makes me look weak as a leader because I refused to have him killed due to your fascination with the kid. I can never appear soft to the other Killjoys, and you know exactly why! If I lose control of the Killjoys then we’re all as good as dead. You know this is true.”

Poison gritted his teeth as he looked away from his brother. He didn’t want to believe his brother’s fear could possibly become a reality, and preferred to see it as just meaningless paranoia. Sadly, he knew Kobra better than that. When it came to their family, if Kobra was worried about something, there was always a damn good reason why. This time it was his lover that was the problem.

“So you’re telling me I have to get rid of him? Fine, I’ll fucking let him go back to his stupid family again!” Poison hissed, his anger getting the better of him and making him pace back and forth in front of the desk.

Kobra dropped his arms in defeat before changing his tactic to a more aggressive approach. “Damnit Gerard it’s not as simple as that and you know it! You can’t just take him back to his home like the bastard was never kidnapped in the first place. We all know there’s a good chance that that kid will open his mouth to the police and tell them everything about us! We’ve stayed alive this long without them not being able to identity anything linking to us, not even the color of our shoelaces, you wanna know why? It’s because we’ve erased all the evidence and killed every single witnesses that could testify against us!”

Poison stopped pacing to stride over to his brother intending to shove his fist into his face, but Kobra saw it coming and ducked in time for him to punch a hole in his wall instead. “Fuck you, you little fucking shit! DO you have any idea what you’re asking me to do?!”

“Of course I do! I’m asking you to do your job as a Killjoy and eliminate your new target Black Opal, and dispose of his body accordingly. Like all the other prizes before, I don’t want any shred of him to be found by anyone, do you understand me?” Kobra said, finally saying what they both didn’t really want to say out loud themselves.

Poison’s head dropped forward until it connected to the wall that he punched. He slowly pulled his hand out of the hole and clenched his fists simultaneously. The room was silent for a long time. Kobra waited for his brother to speak first as he watched him closely from behind, just in case he might attempt to attack him again. “Yes, I understand.”

Kobra closed his eyes and shuddered with the amount of guilt and stubbornness battling inside his body. He felt guilty because he had to ask his brother to murder someone that he obviously cared about, yet he was too stubborn himself this time to let his brother have his way and bring Black Opal along with them. “Good. You better get to it. We leave in a couple of weeks.”

Poison lifted his head but continued to face the wall he just assaulted. “So what, are you gonna have someone watch me to make sure I take out my target now or something?”

Kobra shook his head. “No, I won’t do that to you. I probably should because your feelings for him could possibly prevent you from doing your job and getting us from getting lethally injected in front of the whole goddamn country but…I trust you.”

Poison turned around to lean his big frame against the wall behind him. He kept his eyes down before deciding to raise them up. “Let me ask you a question.”

Kobra nodded. “Okay, shoot.”

“What if this was Sable that we’re talking about here?” Poison asked his brother, watching him flinch at the mention of his lover’s name. He could tell by the dark glare in his eyes that he hit a nerve.

“DON’T! I mean it, Poison, don’t go there with me!” Kobra threatened in a menacing tone as he pointed a finger at him.

“You’re such a fucking hypocrite Mikey, she was once just like him! How can you stand here and say I have to give him up and yet she was welcomed to stay and join the family.” Poison argued back, not caring to heed his brother’s warning.

“Poison d-“

“What’s the fucking difference?! Is it cause she’s fucking you, is that why she gets to stay, huh? Cause she’s fucking the boss!?” Poison shouted.

“NO! It wasn’t because I fell in love with her at first sight and wanted to be with her for the rest of my life. It wasn’t because I saw a future with her as my wife with a whole bunch of fucking kids running all around a big house with the stupid cliché white picket fences. That’s not the reason she’s here by my side and Black Opal won’t be at yours. The reason is because your fuck boy has already gotten the other Killjoys to thinking that I’m an unfit leader! You and I both know that’s not true, because I’m going to tell you right now, if Sable had caused as much trouble as your precious Black Opal did, she wouldn’t be alive right now. She’s be dead with the other prizes and where Black Opal should’ve been long ago, but she’s not! She’s alive and she’s by my side. I wish you can have the same thing Poison, I really do, but I can’t lose control of the Killjoys. We both know I can’t. If I do…no one will be able to stop them without shooting them down like a pack of wild dogs. There’s more than just you that I have to worry about here.” Kobra explained as desperately as he could.

He was beginning to think that his rant wouldn’t sink into Poison’s stubborn brain, but it did. The anger disappeared from his face, and being replaced with a nonchalant expression.

“I’ll do it. I’ll get rid of him.” Poison informed him.

Kobra took a deep breath to gather himself as he ran his fingers through his hair. “Good, that’s uh…that’s good. Are you going to need a hand at eliminating him or maybe disposing of the body?”

Poison shook his head as he walked past his little brother to the door. “No, I got this. He’ll be gone before it’s time for us to move on to our next destination.”
