I'm the Last One That You'll Ever Remember

Chapter 79: Cry Over a Lie

Sighing, Gerard pulled back from their hug so he and Frank were finally looking at each other eye to eye. He stared at him for a long moment debating on whether or not to give Frank the answers he was seeking. Should he tell him about his life? His real family? A large part of him wanted to, mainly his racing heart. He wanted to open up to his kid more than he’s ever wanted to open up to anyone about anything, especially when they were wrapped around each other like this in the local high school’s swimming pool...unfortunately, the Killjoy in him won the battle in the end, and forced him to come up with a big old lie that was his so-called life. “I…I don’t remember much about my parents actually.

Frank was bit taken aback by that response, simply because he always assumed Gerard has parents. He had never mentioned his family before except once, and that was when he informed him that he had come out to his family. If he didn’t have parents, who were his family? “Oh…well, um, if you’re comfortable talking about them then you can just tell me what you remember of them instead.”

Gerard bit his lower lip, and thought to himself of an even greater lie. “My mother was…a teacher, specifically a kindergarten teacher. My father was the owner of a few stores in town at the time. I had a little…sister. When I was 10….my parents were murdered by a kid in our neighborhood that was suffering with mental issues his parents refused to address because of their religious belief.” He heard Frank gasp at that, but continued on, his eyes never leaving Frank’s as his hazel orbs began to fill with tears. “They figured they could simply pray the mental illness away, but that obviously hadn’t work. The kid got worse and worse until he couldn’t take it anymore. He left the house one night while his parents were asleep with his father’s shotgun looking for someone to blame, to make suffer for all of his suffering.” Gerard shrugged his shoulder. “I don’t see why he didn’t just kill his parents instead since they denied him the help he obviously needed, but he picked my house that night instead and shot up my parents while my little sister and I were staying with our grandparents for the weekend. Our grandparents volunteered to raise us until they passed away around the time I became 18. So, I picked up the responsibilities and decided to raise my little sister on my own. She and I have been close ever since.”

“Oh, Gerard.” Frank softly cried, a few tears spilling from his eyes due to his pregnancy hormones. He hated this part of his pregnancy, the sensitivity and constant sniffling. It was so embarrassing crying over little things he never cried over before, but hey, there wasn’t anything he could do about it. “I-I’m so sorry you went through all of that.

“Don’t be.” Gerard ordered him as he lifted a hand to gently wipe his tears away. He didn’t like the fact that he had made Frank cry over a lie. If the story was real then okay, but it wasn’t. It was all fabricated to lead Frank astray in thinking he had his answers. “And no shedding any tears for me. I’m perfectly fine.”

“Bu-” Frank started again.

“I’m fine, Frankie.” Gerard assured him with a smile. “In fact, I’m better than ever right here…with you.”

Frank didn’t know why but hearing Gerard say something that romantic made his heart skip and his mind blurt out another question instead of savoring the compliment. “So what about your girlfriends? What can you tell me about them?”

“They’re ancient history that you don’t need to worry yourself over.” Gerard informed him with a smirk. “I’m not letting any of those skeletons out of the closet ever again. The past is the past and that’s where they’ll stay.”

Playing dumb, Frank continued to probe him. “Oh yeah? And what do you mean by all that?”

Gerard continued to smirk, but refused to give him an answer with words. Instead, he leaned over and placed his lips softly against Frank’s in their ‘ first kiss’ together. He kept the kiss strictly E for Everyone, and kept his tongue behind his lips although it wanted to slip past and explore its favorite grounds again. Beneath his lips, Frank’s body flinched, then shivered. His lips became all warm and soft, as if he were melting into Gerard. Reluctantly, Gerard pulled back to look at the hazel eyed beauty in his arms with a smile. “That’s what I mean.” He couldn’t help but laugh when Frank’s face turned completely red like a strawberry, and when he went all shy and tried to hide behind his hands, Gerard only pulled him closer against him while trying to persuade him to relax. “Oh, come on! Knock off that shyness already. You had to know I was going to kiss those lips of yours long before we got here.”

Still feeling shy, Frank wrapped his arm around Gerard’s neck after burying his red face there. He couldn’t believe it! Gerard kissed him! He kissed him on the mouth with his own lips! Frank’s heart was racing fast at their first kiss, and his entire body was itching to celebrate by dancing due to all the giddiness rushing through his veins. The couple stayed like that for a long time, just enjoying the silence and the presence of each other. They each wanted to stop the clocks of time just so they could stay like this for much MUCH longer. When all the excitement finally calmed down within himself, Frank turned his head to the side so he could whisper into Gerard’s ear. “I…I like you, Gerard.”

That adorable confession made Gerard smile before pulling out of Frank’s hold around his neck so he could look at him with feign surprise. “Oh, really? I had no idea that you felt that way about me!” His heart fluttered when Frank blushed and fell into his charming giggles again. “If you don’t get it yet, I like you too, just so you know.”

As if Frank couldn’t get any redder at that confession. Gerard liked him, like LIKED him liked him! Frank didn’t think this night could get any better, yet and still he wanted to know what happens now. They had just confessed their likeness to each other so…did that mean they were together? Frank didn’t know, this was a first time experience for him. Forcing to bite his bottom lip in order to look Gerard in the eyes, Frank built up the courage to ask him. “So w-what do this mean?”

What did this mean? Gerard wanted to laugh at Frank’s innocent question. He wanted to say ‘isn’t it obvious’, but he couldn’t. Don’t get him wrong, he was ready to take that leap into being a proper couple, boyfriend and boyfriend. As strange as it may seem, Gerard Way, for the first time in his ENTIRE life, was interested in being in a relationship with someone. Unfortunately, Gerard Way couldn’t lay his claim to Frank Iero when Poison of the Killjoys had already done that. It sounded crazy, but Gerard liked to think of himself as different than Poison. Poison was a murderer, kidnapper, and just a downright serial killer that has managed to avoid the law all of his life as he claimed victims after victims. Gerard was an ordinary guy, nice, kind and thoughtful in comparison. There were two sides to who he was, and if ever he planned on sharing his life with another person they would have to learn to accept all of him, the good and the bad. Gerard refocused on Frank, having been lost in his thoughts and chewing on his bottom lip. He gave the young boy in his arms a smile and spoke as calmly and sweetly as he could so he hopefully wouldn’t take his words out of context. “How about…we don’t put a label on what we are. How about we just…be.”

Frank frowned at him, not quite understanding if what he was hearing was a rejection or not. “I-I don’t understand. What do you mean, you don’t want to be with me?”

“No no no! That’s not what I mean.” Gerard reassured him, panic laced in his voice. So much for making sure he wouldn’t take my words out of context, Gerard thought to himself. “I just want you to take your time with this, and feel it out, you know? Test the waters before you go diving into the pool…just like you did over there.” He gestured with a nod towards the stairs that led and out of the pool. “I want you to see if this is something you’re ready for. You HAVE to give yourself that at least, especially after all the terrible things you’ve been through these past two years.”

Feeling his eyes well up at the sweetness of Gerard’s consideration, Frank sniffled back those tears. “Oh Gerard, that’s so thoughtful of you to do for me!”

Gerard chuckled at the sight of him getting all emotional again. In the back of his mind he wondered why Frank was all of a sudden so damn sensitive. Of course, he cried both times he was kidnapped but he never cried over nothing before….then again he was kidnapped, not exactly spending time with a crush at the pool. This was Gerard’s first time being around Frank outside of kidnapping so how would he know whether or not he was just an all-around sensitive guy or not? “Thank you for that compliment, beautiful.” He leaned in to give Frank another innocent kiss like before.

Later on that night, after the two played around in the pool some more and shared more E-rated kisses, the two decided it was time to head back home. They showered in separate showers, which was the hardest struggled Gerard had ever been through to keep himself from not entering Frank’s. If felt like centuries since he’d seen Frank naked and he was itching to see him so again sooner rather than later, but he forced himself to be a good boy. After they were all clean and dried, they put their clothes back on and left the building to return to Gerard’s car. He drove Frank home, but parked a block or two away on Frank’s orders. “Just in case my parents are waiting up for me. I don’t want you to get in trouble.”

Gerard gave him a gracious smile as he lifted Frank’s hand that he held throughout the ride home up to his lips and kissed it. “Thank you, darling.”

Frank blushed red and went all shy again. Gerard got out of the car while Frank recollected himself and opened the door for him. They walked arms around each other towards Frank’s house. When they got close, Frank pulled out of his arms and stopped. Gerard’s light brown eyes looked down at the boy in his side with a raised eyebrow. “What is it?”

“We should probably say goodbye here.” Frank told him, looking between him and his house. “I don’t want my parents to see you and…like I said, I don’t want you to be in trouble.”

Gerard gave him a smile, grabbed his hand and tugged him down the walkway. “I’ll risk the trouble if it’s for you.”

“But Gera-” Frank began but was forced to clamp his mouth shut cause they were already on his porch. He tilted his head to look up at Gerard and once again opened his mouth to whisper this time. “Gerar-” Once again he was cut off but this time it was because of Gerard’s lips. His eyes slip shut as they shared another innocent kiss. When Gerard pulled away and opened to his mouth to probably say goodbye, Frank cut him off this time. “May I have one more before you go?”

Gerard smiled and leaned down to kiss him again, this time gathering up in his arms. He lingered longer than he did before once again breaking the kiss to look down at him. “Now, get inside and go to bed already. I’ll come by and see you again soon.”

Frank licked his lips and nodded before hesitating reaching up and running his thumb over Gerard’s bottom lip. “I’ll be waiting.” He then slipped out of is arm to run around to the back of the house to enter through the kitchen.
