Look Alive, Sunshine

It was silent. Which, in a place filled with every supernatural being imaginable tended to be a rare or extremely uncommon event. Even in the early morning, the sparrows barely starting to sing their morning songs as the sunrise awoke the light skin completed girl. Her calloused fingers ran their way through her dark wavy locks of hair before she began to stretch out, feeling a bit sore from lying on the old dirty mattress that was obviously abandoned when the apartment she was currently in was. As she moved towards the side of the bed allowing her legs to hang over the edge, the metal bed frame creaked, causing her to cringe. The young woman climbed off the bed the rest of the way, getting dressed and listening out for zombies or anything else that may be a road block on her journey. When her ears finally picked up on the almost deafening sound that could only be a large group zombies, she couldn't help but silently curse under her breath. The brunette had honestly hoped that the huge pile of rotted meat would keep any of those annoying undead busy for at least until she was on the road. After she ate a quick meal of stale saltine crackers, some apple sauce and peanut butter, the woman was ready to pack up her stuff and try to head towards her final destination. She was headed out of Bat Country to a place past the borders of the land, a place called Battery City. The twenty-something-year-old woman had made some friends with a few Killjoys there and hoped they could help her out. Now the biggest problem the brunette wanted to solve as she quietly slipped past the pack of the zombies, was who she was and why she was important enough that the rulers of Bat Country, Avenged Sevenfold, felt they needed to take her memory from her. Had she been onto something that would have overthrown them? Or maybe, perhaps she had pissed one of them off enough and lost her memory as punishment? The brunette, honestly didn’t care what she had done, all she wanted was her memory back and to be as far away from Bat Country as possible after she accomplished her goal.

“Look alive, sunshine,” a familiar voice echoed from her walkie talkie. “Kobra Kid to Adrenaline Monster. You out there?”

The brunette pulled the walkie talkie from its loop on her belt, continuing to walk and keep an eye on her surroundings as she spoke into speaker. "Adrenaline Monster reading you loud and clear, snake boy,” Adrenaline joked.

Since the first day she had met Kobra Kid and his three other Killjoy comrades, she had called him snake boy. He never seemed to mind it either, so she decided if he didn’t mind it would be her personal nickname for him. Of course, after a while of being around Killjoys, you earn the right to have a Killjoy name and Party Poison decided hers would be Adrenaline Monster. The brunette accepted it, and in fact, loved it because she temporally had a name.

"What's your location?" Kobra Kid questioned. "Are you close to the meet up location?"

Adrenaline couldn’t suppress the small laugh that escaped her lips as she rolled her light brown eyes. Kobra Kid was always eager to have her close by again. The brunette couldn’t blame him for worrying so much, though; the world was dangerous no matter where you were, and being in a group was definitely smarter than being off on your own. Of course Adrenaline had been on a mission that would help her get her memory, and if she had brought anyone along, it would have brought more attention to her than she needed. So now, here she was, one stealthy and barely managed escape later, plus an entire week of hiding and traveling to the border of the country lines.

“I’ll be at the rendezvous point soon,” the brunette chuckled. “I just had to stealth mode out of a huge zombie party.”

“Jet Star says that Shadows and the rest of them finally heard what happened and they’re pissed,” Kobra Kid spoke. “Promise me you’ll get here soon.”

“I’ll call you again when I see the border, I swear,” Adrenaline promised.

The brunette shoved the walkie talkie back on its designated loop and began jogging. She knew if the rulers had finally discovered what she had done, then they would try to stop her, which meant they’d probably be heading her way very soon. Adrenaline soon saw the rickety old wood and barbed wire fence that surrounded the borderlands of Bat Country. She was close to freedom and safety.

“Did you really think you could steal from me and get away with it,” a deep raspy voice spoke.

Her body tensed as the brunette's light brown eyes met M. Shadows’ hazel ones. He had caught up to her somehow. He was a demon so it shouldn’t have surprised her out of all the rulers he had come after her. Out of instinct, she raised her crossbow and shot the arrow that was loaded. Shadows caught it in his hand easily, breaking it in half, his upper lip curling up as he snarled.

“You really don’t want to get on my bad side, doll,” he warned. “Now give me the hard drive and I won’t have to take you back to the City with me to punish you.”

Light brown eyes glared into hazel as she quickly grabbed another arrow, managing to hit him with the silver tipped weapon, right in his left thigh. Shadows growled as he pulled the arrow out of the wound. He looked up to see that in the few seconds he had been tending to his wound, the girl had decided to make a run for the fence. He crossed his arms over his chest, deciding to give her at least a minute head start before he would grab her. Adrenaline made it to the fence, finding the exit she had used several times before, pulling it open as arms wrapped around her waist and flung her away causing her to be further away from her final destination.

“Y’know letting you spend time in Battery City with those Killjoys filled your head with so much rebellion,” Shadows commented. “Maybe some time in the City dungeon will break you of such defiance.”

Adrenaline quickly stood up, fighting every urge her body had that was screaming at her to hold and examine her left wrist since she had landed on partially when Shadows had thrown her. Her crossbow was currently too far out of reach for her to try and shoot another arrow into the ruler, so the brunette grabbed her silver bladed switchblade from her pocket and the brunette quickly flipped it open as she defiantly spit at Shadows feet.

“You can’t break someone who has nothing to live for,” she scoffed.

Matt used his inhuman speed and quickly wrapped one of his large hands around the brunette‘s throat, grunting as he felt her blade penetrate his skin. He snarled at her, ripping the pocket knife from her hand and tossing it far out into the desert. Adrenaline Monster struggled to escape Shadows’ grip on her throat, digging her nails into his skin even though she knew it was no use.

“Everyone has something to live for, sugar, and yours goes by the name of Kobra Kid,” the demon taunted.
