Sequel: Hear Your Heart

Run Away With My Heart

47: Pep Talks & Quiet Moments

“Are you nervous yet?” Olivia commented as she sat on the end of her hotel bed, her blue eyes peeking up at Iker who had managed to sneak away to visit her. It had been a week, a week too long in the mind of the brunette, and she couldn’t help but feel a little special that Iker had risked the wrath of Vincente Del Bosque for her. She would have been more than happy with just a phone call or a brisk kiss in the lobby before she made her way towards her room.

“I wasn’t” Iker noted, kicking his shoes off “But you being here means that we’ve only got two days before the first match and I am a little worried. Finishing second in the qualifying group didn’t help our cause much and means we’re in a tough group” he explained, moving to sit beside her.

Olivia smiled. “You know that your team is good” she commented gently “They’ve shown it before and just because things didn’t work out in Brazil or in qualifying doesn’t mean it won’t work out now. You’ve worked hard, Iker, and if I know you, you’ve told all of the players that you’re expecting the best, something I think they’ll give to you” she explained gently. She was under no illusions, an average qualifying campaign had landed Spain in a tougher group than they would have hoped for, but still Olivia had faith. They’d been in a group with Italy in the last Euros and had managed to come through it, something Olivia was pretty sure that they could manage again. They were still a good side, even if they had lost a few players through retirements, and Olivia had a feeling they could go a long way.

Iker smiled. “Thanks for believing in us” he commented.

Olivia shook her head. “You don’t need to thank me for that. I’d believe in you even if you played for the worst team” she smiled.

“Still, it’s kind of nice knowing that you’ll be here throughout the tournament. It means I have somewhere to hide when things go wrong” he explained.

“Iker, nothing will go wrong” Olivia noted reassuringly.

“Sara told me that last time” Iker replied, his eyes drifting down to his hands “And then I went on to conceded five goals to the Dutch, as well as two to the Chileans” he grumbled.

Olivia shook her head and gently moved to take his hands, stopping him from staring down at them. “Firstly, I would really love it if you didn’t mention your exes around me. Just because I know you have them, doesn’t mean I want to hear about them” she noted, earning a small smile “And second of all, you don’t need to dwell on what happened at the world cup. Things didn’t work out, but that it is the past and if you keep thinking about it, you’ll only obsess and make things worse” she added.

“But…”

“Iker, you’re a fantastic keeper” Olivia interjected, offering him a small grin.

“In your opinion” he replied “And you have to say that because you’re my girlfriend” he added, a small grin appearing at the corner of his mouth.

“Fiancée” Olivia corrected “And even if it wasn’t, I’d still call you great” she added.

“Well, thank you” Iker smiled.

Olivia shook head and moved to place a kiss against his lips, something which made him place his hands on her hips, moving her almost effortlessly into his lap. “I am so glad you’re here” he mumbled.

Olivia giggled gently and hid her face in his shoulder, just relishing being close to him again. She knew that it was a little dramatic, it had only been a week since she had last seen him, but still she was glad to be back near to him again. As silly as it was, she had missed him in the week since he had departed for his training camp and felt infinitely better now that she was near to him again. “I missed you” she murmured gently “So much so, I fell asleep for the first two nights cuddling your pillow” she admitted.

Iker smiled. “At least you had my pillow. All I had was Sergio” he teased.

“Iker, for my sake, tell me you didn’t try and cuddle Sergio” Olivia giggled, playing along.

“Nah” the goalkeeper smiled “He’s nowhere near as nice to hug as you are” he added.

Olivia smiled. “I’m glad. The last thing I need to worry about is you trading me for Sergio” she teased.

Iker shook his head gently and moved to press another kiss against her lips. “You shouldn’t be concerned” he mumbled “No one could replace you” he added gently as he moved to rest his forehead against hers. Olivia closed her eyes in the embrace and allowed silence to linger around them for a second, allowing them to enjoy each other’s presence for a few seconds.

“Don’t you have to be at training in a little while?” Olivia whispered gently, trying not to ruin the moment.

“How would you know that?” Iker posed.

“I may have seen your schedule when I got assigned. Guess who gets to do your post-match interview after the game?” she teased gently.

“They must like us” Iker replied softly.

“Or they like the publicity I get the paper by dating you. Either way, it means I get to be the first person you see after the game” she commented, pressing a little kiss to his nose.

“That might not be a good thing” Iker noted.

“I am sure that it will be” Olivia smiled “And I am sure that you will be telling me about your fantastic win over Wales” she commented.

“You’re more optimistic than me” Iker pointed out.

“It’s why we work so well” Olivia replied, carefully climbing out of his lap “I get to be the optimistic one and you get to be the realistic one. It’s why we’re good together” she added, helping him up to his feet.

“I don’t want to leave” he protested gently.

“But you have to” Olivia replied “I will try and see you later?” she added.

“Make sure that you do” Iker noted “And thanks for being so optimistic, Oli” he added.

Olivia shook her head and pressed a kiss against his lips, wordlessly informing him that there was nothing to thank her for.
